On the saddle, we have Carlin Dunne who is an established Pikes Peak racer and a multi-time winner of the event. In the video, he’s heard saying, “The Ducati Streetfighter V4 is aggressive. It is a thoroughbred and we are learning to tame the beast.” And it is aboard this very beast that Carlin aims to reach the summit faster than any motorcyclist… ever. That’d mean a time of 9:45.624 or faster!
In the video, we can see multiple wheelies which seem like an easy affair considering the power that the Desmosedici Stradale engine makes. Though we do not know the exact numbers that it churns out while on duty in the Streetfighter V4, we believe that it is going to be in excess of 180 Bhp. And it is not surprising either, taking into account the power produced by the 1,103cc V4 on the new Panigale. And it has winglets too... which seems logical with the number of wheelies in the video. 111
The Pikes Peak race itself is not an easy affair. There are 156 turns in the course of the race in addition to the thousands of feet in elevation changes. Adding to the difficulty is the rapidly changing weather that varies on a day-to-day basis. The drastically varying levels of oxygen also affect the motorcycle and the power output. With 14,000 feet of elevation, the riders struggle as well because the riders go full-clip for 10 minutes straight. The exhaustion that accompanies racing is very real and it just gets worse with the elevation and the lack of oxygen.
We have tasted what a full-fledged flagship naked from Ducati can do in the form of a Ducati Streetfighter S1100 which we took for a roadtrip around Italy in The Great Italian Roadtrip. Here are some photos from the trip and you can read the travelogue here.
