Default 2019 Yamaha R3 unveiled: A true heir to the R heritage

Yamaha has been relentless in the last few months or so when it comes to smaller capacity sportbikes. Whether you think of the R15 V3 or the updated R125, all of them were reminiscent of the bigger R motorcycles like the R6 and the R1. The only motorcycle that was missing out on the ‘real R’ pedigree was the R3 but not anymore. 2019 Yamaha R3 has been unveiled and looks thunderous.

Without undermining the current R3, the looks did look a bit subtle and conservative. But the 2019 Yamaha R3 fixes that and it does it in style. It looks leaner, meaner, athletic and way more aggressive than before. The design philosophy of the bigger R’s has finally trickled down to the R3.

Now, the changes are not only cosmetic too. The first that grabs one’s attention is the new inverted forks. The front suspension duties are now handled by 37mm USD forks from Kayaba. This addition should change the handling of the R3 from laid-back to sporty. Yamaha also claim that the new forks will improve the rigidity and damping control to provide a sportier ride without compromising the comfort. Another visual addition as a result of the new fork is the yoke that holds the forks. The milled-out top yoke emits strong ‘bigger R’ vibes. The analog-digital unit has been replaced by a new LCD dashboard.

The fairing design has also changed and it is another factor that adds to the aggression of the 2019 Yamaha R3. The twin headlights at the front are now LED units and are widely spaced to accommodate the central air-scoop. The new fuel-tank and cover appear wider at the knees but slightly lower in profile. The tank capacity remains the same 14-litres.

Mechanically though we don’t see any changes. The engine is pretty much identical. The torque output remains the same at 29.6 Nm which comes at 9,000 rpm. The power output remains the same as well at 41.4 Bhp @ 10,750 rpm. We would have loved the addition of slipper clutch and VVA to the 2019 Yamaha R3 but those are also not coming as far as we know. But even with the same engine, Yamaha claims that the aerodynamic improvements are set to give an 8-9 kmph boost to the top speed of the motorcycle.

It is available in Classy Blue and Black, or Menacing Black and White paint schemes.

    2019 Yamaha R3 specs

    Torque: 29.6 Nm

The power output hasn’t been revealed as of yet but we expect it to remain the same as well.

Beautiful, look much better than the outgoing version. R3 V2 it is!

I wonder how much the price will be hiked because of the changes.

Am I the only one who still thinks the good old Karizma looked way better than the ones on offer and same goes with the new R3 as well!

Well, for me that stupid looking center hole spoils the look totally. What the hell is that gap for I wonder.

I do wonder what it is since R1 and R6 have them too and now all the YZF-Rs have them.

Surely thats not the intended purpose of that otherwise the older generation YZF-Rs or rather the other SBKs would have had it too isnt it?
