  • Renault admit to sabotage in Singapore GP - 2008

The ING Renault F1 Team will not dispute the recent allegations made by the FIA concerning the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix.

It also wishes to state that its managing director, Flavio Briatore and its executive director of engineering, Pat Symonds, have left the team.

Before attending the hearing before the FIA World Motor Sport Council in Paris on 21 September 2009, the team will not make any further comment.

What more has to go wrong in F1??

2007 was the year of espionage by the 2 major teams in F1 - McLaren Mercedes and Ferrari. This year was already clouded by the concorde agreement nonsense and Max's stupid ideas that finally lead to his exit and now this.....

I for one am loosing faith and interest in F1. Sad to see the state of a sport that once housed talents like Sir Jackie Stewart, Alain Prost, The legendary Senna, Schumi being dragged to the streets like this. Pathetic!!!

Such a sad news for the sport. As it is the viewership of the F1 is going down and now incidents like these will scar the FIA.

@apar : even I have lost my interest in the sport and I guess haven't watched more than one race this year.

Yeah Niks, nowadays am watching F1 just for the few legendary and good tracks and not for the race as such, even though it appears to be more closely fought this year than last year!

Have watched hardly 2 - 3 qualifying sessions in this year!

i guess 21st is the deciding day.. if found guilty, renault will be banned for this remainin season.. they only have 20 points with them right now.. its a good opportunity for FORCE INDIA to gather more points in the remaining four races and more up the overall tally

What am more concerned is that, if that happens RENAULT may not mind withdrawal from the series altogether!! This might turn out to be a blackmail of sorts or worse we could loose a good team from the grid.

it's not fixed man!!! read it again, they used "unethical/unsporty" method to win. They asked one of their driver (who was useless anyway) to crash into barrier which would bring the safety car and thus giving their man a tactical advantage to come out first!! how is that fixing?

In a way.. it was fixed DarthVeda. If the safety car hadn't come out, Massa wouldn't have been stuck behind it, thereby losing his tactical advantage. He was poised to take the win, and the win in Monaco would've given him the championship that year.

                  Disgusting.

+100000. The better days are long gone!

@Veda: It WAS fixed Veda. Useless driver or not, it is wrong to make one crash so that a safety car is brought out.In fact they altered the outcome of every driver/team on the grid. Even if u consider it TEAM ORDERS, it is currently banned!

Falvio was always known to be a cunning manipulator. Shame that the teams actions will spoil the reputation of arguably one of the best drivers in history; Fernando Alonso.
F1 for long was walking towards extinction. First on the technology front where most modern tech was banned in the interest of a level field and then with cost based restrictions. This gives more excuses to the Indian authorities of not building an F1 track.
Now this actually puts the nail...I barely watched two (both where Rubens won)
MotoGP is far more better; at least no technical strangulation and all is dependent on the rider+machine.
Never argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and then beat you with experience.

Cheer up guys. I admit all these scandals are very bad for the sport. Who know, maybe in the future we may have gun toting marshalls manning barricaded check points on the track to check illegal activities. Instead of having chicanes, we may have sandbags & machineguns .

Wow! Loss of millions of dollars to to put another one at the top! Everything comes at a price, but this, really bad decision by the Renault crew. Poor Pique!

Rightly said there.. But I guess you mean a win at the last race of the 2008 Season - Sao Paulo (not Monaco)..

Yeah! I doubt we'll see someone like him in the near future.. If there's anyone who seems close to him, its Sebastien Vettel..

Its sad to see how Formula 1 is being bombarded with atleast 1 big Team-controversy off late every year! Briatore's ways are not unknown to the F1 community, but its really sad to see to what extetnt he could go for a win after a dry run of 2 years..
