Let Honda go from here. Government should ask the money they saved in form Tax benefits and others. I was in US last week and found that Dell is closing its plant in NC. The N State gov't is asking them to pay back the tax benefits they have got from the Tax Payer Money.
Millions spent luring Dell to NC can't be recouped - Yahoo! Finance
Similiar should be asked from Honda so that they should understand that they should stop fooling Indians. Trying to befool us in the form of Labor cost as well as pricing the products. Most of the Honda or should I say all of the Honda products are over-priced here. Also, they are fooling thier sister concerns read HH by not allowing them to establish their own R&D and providing the components (Gear parts) at very high prise as compared to other manufacturer. If they shut down HMSI then we might get good products from HH as Honda would then rely on HH for the numbers they sell to show to the world.

How long will anyone sustain???
Honda Cars, HMSI, Suzuki, Toyota... just a few I can remember from the recent years. If people cannot act and fix the problems at the right place India might see what the UK has seen in the 70's - most industry went out of UK or was bought over by non UK based companies. Reason - labour laws in too much favour of worker unions.
Who is at loss?
The workers lost jobs (many, if not most)
Country loosing lot of revenue and paying up a lot of foreign exchange
Citizens pay higher prices

is labor union the problem!
Guys, I actually happened to go through a case on HR practices at HMSI about the previous labor unrest.
It was a pretty exhaustive case ( 20+ pages) & after hours of discussions we realized that Honda people from Japan were not sensitive to cultural differences that exist between the two environments. there were small things like Japanese shop floor supervisor walking with a big stick in his hand, pointing it at workers & sometimes using his legs to point at workers. They may be acceptable in Japan but a strict no here.
There is a lack of fundamental trust at Honda
Taking unions in a negative light is not correct.
Workers are weak & might be exploited by management. In such cases, union provides solace. Unless there is a culture of trust & respect within the organization, unions are needed
This come from an MBA student at IIMA who would mostly be facing the union in future
Regards

I would have to ask you what would you base these comments on? Its quite simple for us to comment on whats high or a very good salary but unless we have a clear understanding, I would apologise if you did, I would advice you to refrain from deciding for other people. Hell I get paid almost 10 times that and as a bachelor I find it in sufficient, and considering they have families to support I think we should give them some consideration.Originally posted by vipin_s View PostTC of about 25K per month is very good salary for a shop floor worker. The employees demand is kind of too much.

PS: Post by HydBiker from Ravi's PC.Suzuki has been here for the past 3 decades and have seen few of the hickups but as of today is one of the good employers. However, Honda (Cars and HMSI) wants to exploit Indian Resources (Human and financial) as pointed by vikramvicky1984. They think they can have same hire and fire policy as in some of the other countries.Originally posted by vikramvicky1984 View PostGuys, I actually happened to go through a case on HR practices at HMSI about the previous labor unrest.

Further, HydBiker don’t worry about Honda leaving India, they will not leave so easily as they are seeing 1.2+ Billion Market so that they can sell some of their outdated products at an exorbitant price. I
wish that they start respecting Indian Culture and market their items at the correct rate.

Sad news this, finally i was thinking like an adult and was begining to like Honda bikes."I set out running but I take my time, a friend of the devil is a friend of mine. If I get home before day light, just might get some sleep tonight" - The Grateful Dead.

Espcially in the current scenario in the Indian two wheeler market space. I mean if you just take the 125 cc segment there are so many aleternatives to the Honda Shine like the TVS Flame, Yamaha gladiator and XCD 125 and numerous iterations of 125s from Hero Honda. Some one must be a real Honda lover to be patient enough to wait for months for delivery of a simple 125cc bike with so many good alternatives available.Originally posted by bhargava_sr View PostHonda bikes are actually pretty good - No doubt about it
these kind of issues will result in loss if many satisfied customers, if Honda takes a 3-4 months to get a deliver the vehicles then many of them would cancel the order and go for other make."I set out running but I take my time, a friend of the devil is a friend of mine. Similar situation has happened in HMSI before also .
I remember clearly , Honda just declined to settle with the workers and instead shut the company off , some big politician had to interrupt and solve the problem. Both the company and the workers suffered.
There is a kinda loss to both sides if there is a shut off .
But there should not be injustice to any side .
There may be damn dirty politics also here which I dont wanna talk about.
Hope thats not the case.
Without having correct inside information , I think no one can comment on this one .Hope is a good thing ,
may be the best of things and
