well being in the petroleum industry i can share a few things:

1)petrol bunk dealers use a indian tampered circuit which automatically calibrates less amount of fuel. This is so advanced that they easily pass weights & measures approval.
2)preset is given on the keypad ,The amount flashes on the display.Than small diversion is created ,part amount is filled & again preset is given for same amount.common trick for cars.

simple solution wud be as such:
1)most of us travel the same roads regularly except for occasional/weekend touring.
2)fix up 2-3 petrol bunks.Mostly select COCO (company owned company operated) bunks. These are constantly monitored & free of any hanky panky.
3)try for those outlets which have automation (you will see OPT (outdoor payment terminal) ,density displays, tag readers at such outlets).cheating ain't possible in automated outlets.
4)after fixing no. of outlets make it a point to fill from these only.this builds up rapport with the staff which than don't attempt to cheat.you can also get in touch with respecive sales officer whose details are provided at every outlet.

I will add some more points w.r.t density later part of the day

I have been filling fuel from the old madras road shell bunk and it has been satisfactory. I wouldn't know if that is 50-100 ml less. But I have been getting reasonable mileage of about 55kmpl on my unicorn consistently for about 9 months. And I don't fill up anywhere else. Most times I fill up amounts of Rs.400 and each time I get consistent mileage.

Can't complain with that though coz 55kmpl is an accepted mileage for unicorn during city-riding.

Regarding pricing of 29 paisa less, there is a practice of dual pricing of bunks within and outside BBMP limits. The lesser priced duel is only Bharat stage 2 and is not of good quality. Those bunks that are within BBMP limits are supplied with Bharat stage 3 petrol and are priced relatively higher. This is the reason, bunks on the highways, and on the outskirts of the city charge 29paise less for a litre of petrol.

Nothing really. I always keep an eye on the meter from zero to the amount I want.

Are the readings rigged mid way while the fuel is being filled or from the beginning? 0.3 litres for Rs300...damn.

two pumps i always avaoid for this reason are,
    1. The IOC pum just coming out of Marathalli entering old airport road (before the signal), realised they cheated me when i reached home.
    2. The HP pump in BTM water tank signal, caught the attendent medling with the reading changing it mannualy to 60Rs even before he started to fill fuel

try not to get distractted with all non-sense they talk with you, if there are two attendents in the same booth be extra careful dont let them distract you, they try to loot every single penny they can.

One fuel pump i felt too good(Apart from few shell retailers) with service & quality is Matt's fuel pump just next to cosmos mall after AECS layout. I was more surprised when i saw the petrol price to be 40paise less than anywhere else in Bangalore.

I have doubts on Shell bunk also.
I never get good mileage with Shell.
    5-10kmpl difference compared to BP.

When i shifted to Bangalore, my bike's mileage dropped to obscene numbers and to my utter foolishness i ended up changing the piston block/rings without knowing the actual reason!!

I had always my doubts on the functioning of those petrol bunks in and around Bangalore. There were just couple of IOC Bunks which i trusted.Even some of the BP Bunks also resort to malpractice.

Heck, I always had a doubt when filling up @ certain HP petrol pumps in Mumbai especially on filling up POWER and I use to blame my bike.

Is there any way we ourselves can check if it's filled correctly or not?

yeah and i'm pretty sure it's true.

been ripped of more than once. Tricks vary from diverting your attention by using a second guy to talk some nonsense like petro cards or about engine oils.
other tricks include resetting the meter mid way. For instance if you say 300. They put in 100 and say thats it . and when we ask put in for another 200. but the trick being the first hundred was never put.

and being not knowing the language makes your attempt for a retaliation meek.

    TEMP...Bangalore Petrol Bunks..NEWS9

    TEMP...Bangalore Petrol Bunks..NEWS9

saw a live telecast today that all Bangalore bunks are ripping off customers...the news crew did a sting operation....they went up to 10 bunks and none of them filled the correct amount of perol...even the machines were rigged to show correct readings.

i mean to say that the news guys took a hero honda bike, attached a 5 litre can to it...and went to every petrol bunk to fill up 300rupees petrol...the can was attached to the bike on the right side so the bunk guys cant see it and its covered with black bag or something....theres a tube connecting from the tank to the can...so when the bunk guy filled up petrol,it goes to the can and we can know exactly how much he poured...the news guys asked him to pour 300bucks petrol and he filled up only 0.35 litres in one HP bunk...they then took out the can and asked what crap is this and the bunk guy was shell shocked...other customers behind them trashed up the bunk guys....like this they went to many other bunks and none gave correct amount of petrol....from 0.35 to 2.50 to 3.50....none gave correct amount of petrol
Working...
