  • Compulsory Helmets: Boon Or Bane?

SO from today we have compulsory helmets for rider and pillion. A 100 buck fine for those who fail. Frankly I think the rule rocks, coz I wont be the only person with bad hair in college (I ride 26km each way). My hair's a mess everyday thanks to this hard shell, but not one day do I do without it. Now it's gonna be fun seeing all the people who ride have bad hair! lol!

My point is what do you guys think?
I think helmets in the city will be a nuisance! I mean ok safety first and all but you know how our pandus are, this is gonna be a helluva diwali for those bastages. Imaggine you wanna go out to your friends place 5 blocks away and then for your local tapri for a smoke, and there's a pandu in the way, you gonna wear a helmet everytime!? I'm sure the pandu wont be so understanding and willm definitely charge me a 100 bucks.
    Whats yer take?

few days/years down the line we'll find our Govt making condom mandatory, or else u pay fine LOL ......u got what i mean......lol

I feel that its all a question of personal safety,,,,who-ever wanna save his head will use helmet,, Its as simple as that,,why should anybody be forced?????

        well...
in delhi this rule is in force since last several yrs....

& to overcome that bad hair problem...
i personally removes my helmet abt 1-2 minutes b4 reaching the venue...! & everything gets back to its place on its own...!

or else, take a bandana (cotton stuff only!) & tie it on ur head & then wear ur helmet & remove it when u get off the bike & u can set ur hairstyle in a jiffy...!
        no bad hair days...!lol
vrrrooooooommm....BOOMMM...! Heard the sonic boom? Yeah, it was me...!

              @chris_996: Exactly DUDE!
@sachin: methinks me'll have to try this, imagine having bad hair days day after day everyday! wtf? It's forced me to keep very very small hair.
Hey vahss, it's not that difficult to ride in city with a helmet, it's only a matter of getting used to. The first time I was riding home after buying my helmet, I felt like I was gonna crash into every single thing I passed by. But give it time and it's not a handicap at all. I feel safest with a helmet and I just love it, imagine one slip at even 50kmph, all it takes is one sweet blow to the head and you go to biker-heaven (no not talking about Rossiland). Helmets are nice, leathers are nicer, full race leathers are nicest, but not when you wanna go out 500m for a cuppa coffee..

I dont have any problem wearing helmet, whether its city or highway, its a boon...........
full face helmet provides protection to eyes also and in winters protect from chilly winds......

well i was uncomfortable with the helmet first..but now i cant do with out it..
i believe tat this is a great rule but is very crude in its form...
i would suggest the following changes to be made.
#Helmets be made compulsory for highways and for distances over a ceirtain limit(like 5km or so)...
#Helmets for pillions suck....cos not every pillion is a regular one behinde u...i mean u may jus happen to pick up some one...how will they carry a helmet along with them..(its like they better have a dream that ur goin to give them a ride)
#fine should be increased to more than 100/- to 500/- cos 100 is like no probs to shell out....
#Proper enforcement of the rule should take place...

                  this is my opinion!!

i think they should remove all rules regarding safety & stuff...
                    ya ... i mean ALL.

they should try to inject some "feel of responsibility" into the heads of riders & drivers.

they should show some gory accident scenes to public... but just a glimpse of that...it'll do wonders!

Fractured arms and legs heal. Once your brains spill onto the road it is all over. And it does not take long to get used to it either. So wear it even if you are doing 500m. If the distance is so short then hoof it, man. Only it does not make sense to fine the bike owner for a pillion not wearing the helmet. Problem is that cops cannot confiscate a pilions licence. So far, I've not seen anybody stopped for this - maybe the pandus are waiting for their helmets to be issued to them first. BTW, when did you last see a motorcycle pandu with a helmet?

yeah, it should be compulsory as common sense is very un-common ...

the main problem is that it should not be implemented in local areas where the speed limit is 30-40kmph, also no fine for pillon (not wearing hell-met) this means we should now require two hell-met locks, and carry the x-tra hell-met everytime,

                          highways should be compulsory hell-met,

                          (my view)

Helmet rule rocks, I wear a helmet everywhere. And if you dont appreciate the helmet law, then U are a stupid or cocky person who thinks nothing is going to happen as long as you ride properly, the reality will smash through your skull b4 you realise it.
Regarding the pillion issue, a regular pillion can always buy a helmet, its a safety measure not a luxury, so I dont care if the pillion has to beg borrow steal to buy a helmet. Non regular pillion riders can go to hell, unless its someone as good as Carmen Electra ...
