Increasing the fine sucks indeed! In fact this way, a person would rather pay 100 bucks legallly against a slip rather than pay the pandu 20-50 bucks. This should ideally give pandus the impression that a helmet-less rider is not that big a catch..rather go for a signal-jumper or a random PUC check or something..
100 bucks is just fine (pun intended,)

Dunno if this is taken into account but hope the govt also mentioned that the helmets be Original ISI Marked and not the roadside cap helmets. Those helmets sell for half the price of good helmets but offer the protection that a cap would offer you. Hope people don't try to fool the govt and end up foolin themselves... And I know this is going to happen a lot. Those helmets are friggin $hita$$. THey'll crack even if you drop them on the floor by mistake.

i can not ride with out my helmet.
              i just can not.
it's good that helmets are mandatory now.

Helmets rock, but I guess those who dont like them have nothing really valuable to lose!!!...my twio falls have been below 10 kmph & only a helmet saved my precious head twice!-so even a trip to the nearby chai wala shud require an helmet. The whole attitude shud also change- ppl buy cheap helmets just to escape challan- I think helmet standards shud also increase as a cheap quality helmet is as good as no helmet.
I think good helmets make a rider look like a rider & not some awaara-sadak chaap lafanga!!! [:P]...custom paint ur helmet for exclusivity & do always get a good quality helmet no matter what the cost.
As said, it also gives guys good excuse to avoid pillionaires!!!...in Delhi, women r not required to wear helmets unofficially (formally I dont know) so basically, u can avoid men pillions but there is no problem with women pillions ie if u want a pillion at all (not me!!- except for my girl ofcourse) ...

But in the end, if only u value ur life should u follow this law- otherwise, ofcourse u can get challaned & die maybe. Simple- u have the rt to live u know & thats what the govt is trying to help u with. If u want to die, dont let it be in the state's name!...trust me, 98% of riders I have seen r reckless monkeys so they r better off with helmets as minimum protection though they require full armour everytime they r on their bikes! (gawd, why do they even hav bikes!!?!!?)
Adding to nik's comment, get common sense, stop cribbing & always wear a helmet. Kapish.
With great power, comes great responsibility- to man, machine and especially to mother nature.

Better judgement in traffic without helmet??? Ppl like these are sole reason for ignorance, and you expect big 1000cc bikes which demand so much rider discipline when us Indians have so less to offer.

Now that helmets are cumpulsory could someone please please post a new topic on HOW TO BUY HELMETS???
Im a newbie in this helmet business and know nothing. is it like u just go to a shop and pick up any helmets that fits or do u have to look out for some stuff like air vents n stuff while buying. Also mention how to customize a helmet i meant like what kind of paint should be used for drawing on it ... and other related stuff..
Im sure such a topic would be greatly appreciated

Well dunno about another topic, but the basic rules for buying a helmet are:
                              1. It should be from a reputed brand in the sense that "tried and tested"
                              2. It should, and I mean it SHOULD have an ISI mark.
                              3. It should fit you snugly.
                              4. See the view offered through the visor, look out for maximum range side-ways.
                              5. Check for a good visor, they tend to get scratched easily. The more expensive ones, SHOEI, SHARK, AGV, ARAI generally have scratch-proof visors.
                              6. Air vents are good. I personally would like one at the top coz it keeps your hair sweat-free and thus doesn't spoil your hairstyle.
                              7. Helmet paint-shops are existing everywhere and you get stickers , fluorescent or otherwise done cheap. Ask for your local shop. Painting it on your own doesn't make a lotta sense.
