  • Kawasaki Indian Subsidiary Launched

MUMBAI: Japan's Kawasaki Heavy Industries, on Saturday officially entered the Indian market with the launch of its subsidiary, India Kawasaki Motors.

"We will set up an unit in India to assemble, import and sell our motorcycles in the country. The initial capital for setting-up of India Kawasaki Motors at Pune will be Rs 5 crore," Kawasaki Heavy Industries' chief representive, (India), Masaaki Ishijima, told reporters in Mumbai.

The unit will be set up at its partner Bajaj Auto Limited's Chakan plant in Pune.

India Kawasaki Motors is likley to launch several supersport, sport and cruiser models primarily in the 250 cc class in the coming days in the Indian market.

"We have already launched Ninja in the Indian market. We have received a good response from the customers. We have targeted to sell around 1,000 units of Ninja in 2010," Ishijima said.

Kawasaki entered into a technical assistance agreement with Bajaj Auto Limited in 1984. Under the agreement, Bajaj has produced and sold motorcycles in collaboration with Kawasaki.

"We will assemble our two-wheelers in Bajaj Auto's Chakan plant. Kawasaki's bikes will be available at Bajaj's pro-biking line of showrooms across the country," Ishijima said.
Looks like the huge number of bookings for the Ninja 250 has opened Kawasaki's eyes. I wonder what all bikes they intend to launch.

What is this? Is this an MOU or is this a real deal?

    Approved
The Wheel was a great invention; Two Wheels with a Motor in between was even better!

From what I get is that it will be very similar to the current state of affairs i.e Bajaj will remain the distributor, the presence of kawasaki will help in moving the things faster and also there is a possibility of having Kawasaki trained engineers at Pro-Biking service station(Just a guess).

                  Sahi news hai boss.

Suzuki... wake up. You guys had enough sleep. Even Kawa is serious now. Honda is anyway milking money with the mopeds. Yamaha is doing some sensible stuff. Only Suzuki is left over to start the race yet.

That's the same I could make out from the news - all same as now except the import route would be different and hence lowers the cost of the product. And as you mentioned, we can expect better trained technicians to take care of the Kwackers.

I would any day prefer this one to the Ninja 250R.

                            16v, 35bhp @ 12,500 that's terrible for a cruiser.
Giving a lot to a fiero.
Expecting a lot from a fiero.

also, isn't that "16v" 16 valves? as far as I can see this is a two cylinder motorcycle arranged in a v-twin form. So that comes out to 8 valves per cylinder...... can anyone double check the info

                              also.....12500rpm.....for a cruiser....really??
