  • Bikers to switch on head lights on daylight

The Road Safety Meet had directed to ride the two wheeler with headlights on even during daylight. The move is to grab the attention of drivers riding big vehicles. The office of transport minister stated that step is being taken on the basis of study report on the same to avoid accidents.

this is a common phenomena at least in Denmark or Sweden of the countries that I have known of.

On inquiring once with a taxi driver in Denmark, he replied saying that with Headlights on the opposite vehicle can noticed from very far distance.

Perhaps, eventually it can be implied in all over the country and may be manufacturers would take note and start to manufacture bikes with this 'feature', like we have on the imported bikes (including the Ninja 250R).

On Hills, we prefer turning on our headlights. It helps a lot.. i guess, this is a good move, if it is implemented efficiently...

Yes Aryan bro. Manufacturers should also support this initiative, but it should be on AC Source, not DC obviously.

Guys, I have decided that I'll keep low beam on, from now on.

I already do keep my headlight on low beam on most occasions during the day.. in fact.. my headlight was on low-beam at the time of my accident at 5PM(in broad daylight) around 50-odd days back. Trust me.. it doesn't work in increasing visibility. If somebody doesn't want to see you, they wont.

All I get is people all around telling me to turn it off. More than the rule, what we need is awareness.

P.S.: I had crashed into a pedestrian who was in a hospital for 25 days post crash. In her police statement, she said that she "Didn't see me coming."

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

It still doesn't take away the fact that it increases visibility of your motorcycle. A vehicle with headlamps on will always attract more attention than one with them off especially if its not brightly coloured. You probably have avoided other accidents by leaving your headlamps on.

AFAIK its mandatory to turn on your headlights during daylight in most European countries, a few states in the US, Australia, Singapore and maybe a few other countries. That's why a lot of bikes abroad come hardwired to switch on the head lamp when you switch the ignition on ... and drain your battery!
Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that connects the handlebars to the saddle.

I have a habit to ride with high beam on highways at the day time, but the point is, it's one way always to a guy wont be ramming you from the front and the guy who's in the mood to ram you from behing will care a damn for the little tail lamp that is glowing along with the headlight.

This is a good move, but the utility of this cannot be compared with the countries having much lesser vehicles on road and faster bikes. In India this concept might result in an 'information overload' for the brain when many motorcycles are on the road together (of all sizes and capacities). However it definitely will make them more visible whatever the end result may be.
