Why is KTM/Bajaj introducing a 125 cc bike? what are they aiming at? why can't a decent 250/500 twin be introduced for the price of Ninja 250? i still cant understand why they were upto this puny 125 (of course it may develop higher bhp in its class) the bike is looking excellent, but fitting it with a 125 cc motor is insane.

Maybe a front fairing is the glaring omission, as the European YZF R125 seems to get rave responses.. in spite of it also having a 125 cc engine.

I think the CC wise categorization would be a tough nut to crack for KTM\Bajaj, unless the product drives every test rider crazy.

People still call the R15 punny due to its 150cc mill!
I just hope people don’t end up stereo typing the product as 125cc = Jantaa class = Commuter class

It definitely is a valid point. But at the same time I also see sales doubling (maybe even more) by just addition of a full fairing (especially at such a premium price point).

Also maybe if the R15 had a "healthy" rear like the FZ-16, probably many would have still not called it puny. The FZ series in India have shown that presentation (looks) matters a lot.

But yes, even I agree that the 125 cc engine size would definitely be there in the customer's mind.

                So True.

Now this meet seem to be an OT, but i wonder how many people would have been interested in this bike if Yamaha launched it in place of R15 with every other specifications remaining the same. I am damn sure this thing wouldn't sell half of the numbers which the R15 is currently managing even if it was priced around 80-85k. And that applies to xBhp populace, too!!

Take it with a pinch of salt, but the majority of the customers of R15 are after it's sbk-esque looks and not those techonological opulence found in the bike.

Full fairing on the KTM would not be a good idea (internationally) why not get a bikini fairing on to it! I would dig if its styled like the 690!

I agree to it more or less, but then again you cannot generalize it as even if it comes with the SBKesque looks it still has stuff which NONE of the Indian bikes has so far! The front fairing was a welcome addition, but not really 'the' decision changer for some of us. (overall I still agree, thanks to the fazer)

That is why i mentioned "Majority" so not generalizing actually.

Still i believe KTM/Bajaj would have proper strategy in place if they are planning for long-haul growth.Because when it comes to performance bikes, Bajaj hardly makes any mistakes!!

Differentiation is already a tough task and with 4x price tag compared to others in the segment, its going to be tougher.

Thats one way to look at it.

Other way is, these bikes are not the same as the others in the segment. In terms of technology and application. They are 'lifestyle' bikes. And people who can see it that way only would buy it. To that extent it doesn't belong to the same segment/class of Shine, Gladiator at all. Obviously, we are talking niche segment here and not hoping for Super Spendour kind of volumes.

Will be interesting to see how it turns out.

These are the probable next 125 cc launches in India and Europe. Last year a KTM guy in a show told me the bike will be launch in two version "road" and "stunt"

1,00,000 price is justified, if they offer the ditto bike as in the pic, however they must come up with a figure in mind, as they did for 250R
