• Day 29 - 33: Hyderabad & Vijaywada

Day 29 started off with the Vijaywada xBhpians riding down to the hotel where the team was staying on the banks of the Krishna River. They intended to ride with the GICR team all the way to Suryapet, the halfway mark to the Hi Tech city of Hyderabad. But the Vijaywada guys had come there with a surprise in hand. They had got lovely keychains made for every member of the GICR team. The keychain had xBhp written on one side and Vijaywada on the other. A nice memento for us to take home and remember the ride we had with the Vijaywada xBhpians.

After a spicy breakfast of Idli and Coconut chutney, the guys had the mandatory photoshoot before the team could leave for Hyderabad. We thank Sandeep, Jagdeesh and the rest of the Vijaywada gang for their hospitality and helpfulness. We rode together till Suryapet, where we were handed over to the Hyderabad xBhpians! The ride will not be easily forgotten by any of the GICR team, as they were thrown around like rag dolls by the cross winds near Vijaywada. A slap in the face quite literally.

Ready to rumble at long last

The GICR team proceeded from Suryapet to Hyderabad accompanied by 8 xBhpians from the Hyderabad chapter who rode together till Ramaoji Film City, where another 7-8 guys were waiting for the team. The large cavalcade then rode into the crowded city where we made slow progress to the hotel located in Jubilee Hills. At the hotel, Kaleem sir was waiting to receive the team and officially welcome them to Hyderabad. Kaleem sir had organised his troops to ensure that everything planned went off without a hitch, as a small interactive session was held where the team introduced themselves to all the bikers present.

The team was presented with mementos by the Hyderabad xBhpians individually and every one of the team was made to feel special. The warmth and affection of the Hyderabadis was infectious and really made us feel welcome. We thank the Hyderabad chapter for going to such great lengths of riding 200 km out to meet us and escort us to the hotel and then showering us with so much affection.

After coffee and cookies the bikers geared up to ride to Gandipet. The long procession of bikes rode out to the location, but were in for an unpleasant surprise. Some local rowdy bikers were hell bent on performing stunts on public roads without any gear after seeing the superbikes in the group. This led to a last minute change of plan, as the bikes turned around and headed out to Movie Towers. A quiet place far away from the city hustle and bustle, yet close enough to give a full view of the IT hub of Hyderabad.

xBhp kicked off its 11th Birthday celebrations from the city of Biryani and pleasantly surprised all the xBhp bikers present. A cake was brought with the theme of motorcycling and Hyderabad printed on it, uniting the things the bikers of the city love. After an awesome time stuffing their faces with delicious cake, the G2G finally came to an end, with everybody once again having to move through the crazy traffic of Hyderabad. For an outsider, it appears as if there is metro construction going on in every little lane! Hope to see the situation improve in the next India ride!

The evening was capped off with a dinner hosted by Kaleem sir, where we had some original Hyderabadi fare and Apricot preserve for dessert, which was 10 times sweeter than the sweetest thing one could have ever eaten! A wonderful but long day finally came to an end as the weary travellers went back to the hotel, once again escorted by two Sriharshas!

After the previous late evening with Anoop, Jaijeet, Kaleem sir, and the two Sriharshas we had an early morning as we roamed the streets of Hyderabad for a iconic shots of the city. These photographers are horrible people as they take you to places where you can smell the Biryani, but they don't let you eat. And in this hungry state we went from the Charminar to Cafe Bahar and then to the Hussain Sagar Lake. All these heroics were done in the middle of Monday morning rush hour traffic. We are 'cool' that way you know, love to get heated up on the Busa and V-Strom.

Some of the pics we captured in the City of Biryani.

The next morning as per Kaleem sir's green initiative, we planted a couple of trees outside the hotel premises. Emmanuel brought the trees for us to plant and Old Fox and Sunil did the honours of adding to the greenery of Jubilee Hills. We were also fortunate to have an Hyderabadi 'old timer' of xBhp who had dropped in to visit, as he couldn't make it for the G2G. Krishna Prasad Reddy aka Hydbiker was there with us, though we missed out on meeting some of the other stalwarts of the xBhp Hyderabad Chapter, Ravi Verma and Kiran Borra, though we did get to meet Riaz at the Sunday G2G. Unfortunately Kaleem sir could not make it for the tree plantation as he had to leave for Bangalore on some urgent personal work.

Later in the afternoon, the team headed to the guy who had provided Riding Gear for the Great India Collectors Ride. Zeus Motorcycling Gear owner Ritesh invited us to his store in Hyderabad Adventure on The Rocks and subsequently also took us for a wonderful dinner of good Hyderabadi food the night before we were to leave this bustling city.

^^^ The Photographers should be prosecuted for this, The Monk !!!! Excellent initiative there by Kaleem sir. We are forgetting about the need for a greener environment these days.

Eventually all good things must come to an end and it was time to leave Hyderabad for the return journey to Vijaywada. As we got out of the hotel we first headed for a small photoshoot in the lovely hills that surround the city before the cars got onto the Outer Ring Road, while the 'outcast' bikes had to make do with cutting right through the city. This resulted in the cars reaching a good half an hour before the bikes at Suryapet. They were aided by the fact that Abhishek Bhatt is a very confident rider, even when he is lost and going in the wrong direction he does so confidently!

We eventually found our way through the hustle and bustle of the city before we could let all the horses loose on the smooth tarmac that connects Hyderabad to Vijaywada. After some extremely spicy Biryani at Suryapet we headed onwards where we met up with Sandeep Patnala and company, where we went to eat delicious idlis with ghee and a tangy chutney served with peanut paste. Followed by a green gram dosa and topped up with some excellent sea fish. A day which brought great gastronomic delight finally came to an end on the banks of the River Krishna!
