Hey, nice to see so many replies

I'll try to answer all your questions -

I agree that the red ducatis are more common than any other color. The white also looks absolutely beautiful, you can see every curve clearly because of the pearl tinge. I decided to get a black mainly because I dont think I can pull off a stunning red 1198s even though it was my first preference. Black is low key, but looks nice too, and sometimes reminds me of streethawk

About the stretch to the handlebars, it takes a little getting used to. The first week on the 1198s made my hands numb, shoulders/ back hurt and legs burn (because of the engine getting insanely hot in lower gears in traffic). I think I might have even lost some hair on my left leg :P jk
But once I got used to it (and started working out regularly) its been good fun. I even got a double bubble windscreen for freeway rides so I dont have to tuck myself in for too long.

I'm saving up for some termis or maybe even an akrapovic system. Right now im broke after blowing up a lot of money on new riding gear.

From the reviews and specs that ive read about the 848 evo I dont think it has a slipper clutch, might have been a little expensive to add it after they decided to put the 1198s brakes on the evo for the same price as before.

Oh and Im going to spend my saturday (tomorrow) on a hypermotard 796 super excited. I abs love the way the bike looks. I will try to post some pics of the ride too. Few weekends ago I test rode the triumph thruxton and the speed triple. Will post pics of that too Im in love with the way the thurxton looks and feels, totally old school. Though i personally prefer the ducati sport classic and the streetfighter to the triumphs.

      c ya

              Demo Rides (pics)

Heres a link to some of the photos i took over the last few demo rides,

Demo Rides - a set on Flickr

The hypermotard was so much fun to ride, it felt like i was sitting on a sofa compared to my 1198, it was so comfortable my butt wasnt sore at the end of it. It is also very very easy to ride, you can push the front end going into (bumpy) turns and it will stay planted even at 100mph, its that forgiving. Also the upright supermoto stance gives good steering leverage.

The person leading the demo ride was a little too liberal with the throttle on his streetfighter so ended up doing more than 125mph at times through some of the twisties, i somehow managed to keep up. Though many got left behind, and the group got split up into two. But was fun non the less. The throttle response on the 796 is very smooth and it even tried to wheelie on me in 1st 2nd gears on full throttle. Overall a killer package, i think i love it more than my 696 which is not good :P

The only thing that wasnt fun was the wind hitting me at 125mph, had to hold on for dear life, now i understand why people put windscreens on their hypers.

What would you recommend for a 24hours non stop ride, the monster or the motard?

I have some apprehension against the stance on the motard for really long rides!

neither, but given the choice of just these 2 bikes i would pick the monster for a 24hour non-stop ride.

                    Thanks

What would you pick otherwise? The Multistrada?
Sadly there isnt a small Multistrada around, and the 1200 costs a lung, a kidney and limb!

is this just limited to ducati's? or is anything game?
besides i would be crazy to ride for 24 hour non-stop ...

id pick the hyper. The stance is more upright and the hands stay very relaxed. And I think the hyper suspension has more travel. Plus the seats more comfy :P Perfect for long (not too fast) rides. Both bikes dont have much of a windscreen, so high speeds are equally bad on both. (i wish i could swap my 696 for a 796 hyper ;-))

heh... no idea what's available in india, looks like you can get a 6 gallon tank (Ducati Parts, Parts for Performance and Motorcycle Maintenance >> California Cycleworks) for the motard, a multistrada would be expensive compared to the monster or the motard.

i know you can get a zero gravity windscreen for the monster, and there probably is one for the motard too.

you should be able to put knobbies on the motard and go dirt riding ... have'nt seen anyone doing that here, people prefer lighter bikes for off roading.

ride both and decide for yourself...

The hyper has a tank range of about 260km which is decent for touring in India. Plus a windscreen might not be necessary since you wont be riding at high speeds for too long, touring at 100kmph (which is a lot) shouldn't be too bad on the rider. I think hypers are mainly road bikes, going dirt riding on it will be a bad idea
