You would be amazed just how many darkies you would leave exiting corners without even knowing.

      On street tires, on tarmac?

Edit--didn't knew you had a 1000RR and that too an '08 model and I can't help but ask for a brief up in your words between the two models.

S1000RR is coming to India soon as is the RSV4 Factory

The new Kawasaki 10R is already facing Hold Offs on unsold units due to engine issues. Owners of the sold units have been requested to return their motorcycles to the dealer with a promise of full refund and priority delivery when the engine issues is resolved (no mention anywhere in their press release as to what exactly is the issue with the engine).

Guess the new Ninja 10R would have some difficulty in catching up to the standards set by the S1000RR

But to answer the thread owner's question -
          1) The Cross-Plane R1 is much better in 99% of the aspects than the 2008 R1.

          2) From my point of view the remaining 1% is the looks, in which I think the 2008 is better.

          3) As Ken Da as already mention, if logistics permit, the fully loaded BMW S1000RR is any day better than the R1 (if the owner can live with the squint eye design of the head lamps )

I believe Vicky is already eying the S1000RR. We can get a hands-on report then.

That would the wisest decision to make!! Awesome!! The squint eyed, fire breathing, hell ripper would surely the one I would choose any day over the R1 (that's the only thing which can deviate me from the One!!)

Mighty Congrats on getting a new bike !!!!
if you opted for 2010 CBR1000RR Honda instead of a 2010 R1 you saved yourself. Ofcourse if you had bought the R1 you would have fallen in love with it too. The thing is whatever you will buy you will end up loving it to the max. But try getting someones 2010 cross plane R1 for a day or so and ride them two bikes back to back. Three most prominent differences that will be noticed would be( not gonna harp about the heating issues again this time)
                        1. Drivetrain lash is COMPLETELY eliminated on the Honda. Yamaha has it ALMOST eliminated. The pre cross plane one had PLENTY of it.
                        2. Midrange punch on the Honda is so epic that you will be faster on the Honda for a quarter of a mile. Midrange on the Yamaha is nothing spectacular at all but it starts flying when in higher revs but then for a litre bike if you are flying at higher revs you are flying faster than your lady luck.
                        3. Switching sides/turn-in rate on the Honda is very very close to that of a 600. If you shoe your bike with track tires the bike actually starts being a 600 with 1000ccs between the legs. 2010 Yamaha is lazy to steer, heavy and needs to go on a diet from the word GO. Honda will feel very narrow between the legs because it actually IS narrow. The 08 Honda is as narrow as the 2010 BMW S1kRR between the legs...very unlike an Inline 4 bike.

I am assuming you went in for the CBR1000RR and not the CB1000R
All that you are missing out by being on the Honda is
                        1. Good looks (subjective)
                        2. Cross plane thingy (it really has a very different feel to it and isnt a gimmick as some claim it to be)
                        3. Yamaha Fan-boyism. Its fun to be a fanatic and you would bump into 10 Yamaha fanatics for 1 Honda fanatic, every 10 kms you ride in India..Rx100s and RD350s created an image that can never be abolished :P

Disagree with you here. The Honda definitely felt more reluctant to turn in than the Yammie to the point where it surprised me. Yes the Yamaha is heavier but it is more eager into the corners.

That said - any minor cornering discrepancies can be corrected with different tires. Some tires are more aggressive in turn in and others take more muscle.

I see GS beat me to the point here, but we were both on the same ride when we tried the Blade, and it was not my first time on the Blade. Both on track and in the street, the 08 R1 had a quicker turn-in than the Blade, but the Blade had a lot more mid-corner stability than the R1. It felt a bit more planted and obviously lighter than the R1 when leaned over.

I don't know about the drivetrain backlash, but it's awfully hard to come upon that kind of conclusion because drivetrain backlash is very bike-subjective and cannot be put down to a design/engineering inadequacy.

That said, I'm glad the original poster got the CBR, because other than the very quiet and boring ride feedback, it is a stonker of a machine. Easily the best on the market right now, '10 R1 included.

there is no way in hell the 2010 turns in quicker than the post 08 blade. Are you talking of slow tight turns or long sweeping highspeed corners ? Either ways its not quicker than the blade when it comes to switching sides or turning in. Shall not agree

08 R1 is quick to turn in. the 2010 is lazy to steer and overweight.

Drivetrain lash can be absolutely attributed to engineering adequacy/inadequacy.
Heres the two patented technologies that have enabled Honda to COMPLETELY eliminate the doglash.
                              1. IACV (Idle Air Control Valve) is basically an air-bleed valve that allows some air to be introduced downstream of throttle valves. This apparently “improves previously unstable combustion” to minimize abruptness when applying throttle or coming off it by allowing some intake air to bypass the 46mm throttle bodies, also slightly reducing engine braking.
                              2. The IIC(Ignition Interrupt Control) determines the change from deceleration to acceleration based on throttle position, crank speed and countershaft speed, and it cuts the ignition for a brief 20ms when engine speed exceeds countershaft speed, reducing driveline shock. It’s a clever system, though it works only up to 6000 rpm and only at small throttle openings.

                              from the world wide web.

I rode a brand new gixxer ( the dog lash couldnt have been built into it by the rider as it was brand new) and that thing has the worst dog lash making it look like maddning and searing acceleration to someone who doesnt know what it is. Hondas and Yamahas have the least dog lash amongst all heavy weight bikes. Ofcourse if Zuki wanted it could get rid of that too...but hell they sell them by the tons for that maddening acceleration so why would they ? Its not like they dont have the ability. Like they say...target audience.

The technology you list may be superb, but that wasn't what I was talking about when I said engineering inadequacy. I was thinking about things like loose chains, gunked up sprockets and the like. Should've been more clearer, my bad

Anyway, the technology you mention, I'm not sure if your average rider can exploit the advantages completely, but it is innovative for sure. I'd buy the Honda even with some backlash, but I'd go to sleep on the saddle after a while.
