The Yam shop in Mumbai finally have all the spares for my 1st service. I'm trying to force them to schedule it for Sunday and they're resisting due to Auto Expo being on at the same time. Ifthey don't do it this Sunday then to hell with them, I will get the oil change done myself and complain to Yamaha corporate. I've been waiting for a month now.
Met up with Busalover again this afternoon at Performance Racing Store. We've decided to get together and ride tonight. Jay, I'll call or sms you later in the evening.sigpic StreetFighter

Ah familiar story man.
My R1 was one of the first to hit the roads here in Bangalore and in India. And I rode it more than anyone else within a month. So I needed the oil filter which took about a month I guess. In the meantime I bought a K&N oil filter and was running it, which was changed to the OEM filter during the first service.
There were a few initial hiccups, and after that, the service has been nothing short of extraordinary! ANd I'm not joking. The problems you are facing must be due to a new showroom/technicians and the back office spares and service operation chain still getting setup.
EDIT:
SF, did the Yamaha dealer tell you anything about the warranty when you put the mods on?
And it's so good to finally have a official Yammie SBK owner here as well. I like comparing notes every now and then

The problem here is the showroom is a 50 km ride away (one way) for me, there's no way I'm riding all the way there and back on any other day besides Sunday. And I have given them a month's notice and informed them that I can only make it on a Sunday.Originally posted by rossiter View PostAh familiar story man.

They didn't tell me anything about mods, they don't know I have mods on but it could be a problem. I can't be bothered to change my exhaust back to the stock ones now. I'll see how they react when I get the service done. May be I can get them to remap the ecu for the Raask
What did they tell you about mods?sigpic StreetFighter

Trust me, they do now..... they scout xBHP like nobody's business and I can sense rossiter having a smirk on his face reading this line as wellOriginally posted by Streetfighter View PostThe problem here is the showroom is a 50 km ride away (one way) for me, there's no way I'm riding all the way there and back on any other day besides Sunday. Well I was told that the warranty would be voided if I changed anything that affected the performance of the machine. In any case, I'm not too interested in putting on after market exhausts, air filter (the OEM is best in performance and cheapest btw). Couple of other guys have gone in for full exhausts etc, and I don't really know if they'll enforce the warranty void very seriously.
ECU remapping?? Don't you think you're asking for too much, considering they got the spares after one month
About the service delay, considering your bike has run only 1050.. it's really not a problem with the old filter itself. I changed mine at 1250 something kms. But since they've got the spares, I suggest you get it done. It's an hour's job at the most. And ask them to pick up the bike if you can't spare the time, and if you're comfortable giving the bike to the technician. I've seen a few owners do that here, although I bring in my bike myself.
Were you there for your bike's PDI? The MT-01 PDI is a lot more special because the work is a lot more, the wheels come separately and what not.

This is the part I am really interested in. Coz round the world, most of the legal cans come with a phrase saying "Does not affect Warranty". Now Yam and soon other companies to follow suit will be beginning to get their bikes. If they follow the rules of Warranty void with regular performance enhancing pipes and cans, this is not really good news!Originally posted by rossiter View PostWell I was told that the warranty would be voided if I changed anything that affected the performance of the machine.
How cheap is the stock air filter that you use on your bike and how often do you have to change it? Coz the K&N maybe expensive, but you do not EVER have to change it!The Wheel was a great invention; Two Wheels with a Motor in between was even better!

Well, that is a standard clause for almost all vehicles sold. Put on any unapproved after market performance mods and you will void the warranty, but this is hardly enforced; it's judged very logically. This clause is there to prevent people from putting on turbo/super chargers, nitrous systems, etc. and then blowing up their engines.
I've only got the exhaust and it's a slip on so it won't really matter. The other mods do not really alter the characteristics or performance so they should be ok.
I wasn't there for the PDI, the bike was bought in Bangalore and trucked to Mumbai.sigpic StreetFighter

Are you sure most cans come with that assurance? The only aftermarket product I've seen which comes guaranteed not to void the warranty is the K&N Air filter. Then again, I haven't seen too many exhaust systems, so I may be wrong.Originally posted by ken cool View PostThis is the part I am really interested in. And as for the stock filter, I changed it during the 2nd service, at around 4950 something kms. It looked like this:
True, but it does carry an element of risk. In any case, something that can invoke a warranty clause on a contemporary stock SBK is very rare. Almost unheard of.Originally posted by Streetfighter View PostWell, that is a standard clause for almost all vehicles sold. Which cans come with "Does not affect warranty"?Originally posted by ken cool View PostThis is the part I am really interested in. You will have to clean the K&N a lot, and I mean a LOT due to our weather and environment.sigpic StreetFighter

A lot of the cans do. You can see it written even in the ads. There is a clause that is signed between the OE manufacturer and the Yoshi (for example) for use of such cans. This is for certain.Originally posted by rossiter View PostAre you sure most cans come with that assurance? A few bike makers have certain tie ups with exhaust companies; for e.g. Yam and Akrapovic. Certainly not all. It will almost always be 1 bike 1 can. Like Triumph with Arrow. Then those cans will not be available to buy directly from the exhaust company. Don't know what the deal with Yoshi is.sigpic StreetFighter

Now that's a bit of info to have. But if I'm right, this tie up is restricted to the racing divisions (e.g Yamaha and Akro with their WSBK and MotoGP programmes).
And SF: Very interesting. What made you buy it in Bangalore and truck it to Mumbai? Did you get it from Orion or Bangalore Wheels?"Tough times never last, but tough people do." - Robert Schuller
