    Hi Airbase: was reading this thread and your question stood up - so I had to type a response!

    Do people still refer to these bikes as "Light / Middle /Heavy" weights - those are archaic British motorcycle terms - bikes upto 350cc were called lightweights / 350 to 500 were the middle weights / and 500 above were called heavy weights !

    but with SBKs I always thought they were classified as liter class / quarter liter class and 600/ 750 class, open class etc !!! do put me on the right track if I am off my mark

      Thanks for the reply Trusty! I however cant concur totally with you, having seen some wellknown automags / journos still using the term middleweight.

      As far as i know,
      ~600cc: Supersports
      ~1000cc: Superbike
      ~750: Maxi sports
      ~1300: Hyper sports.

      I could be wrong however.

        what kind of bike would suffice the below needs??

        -mostly city rides and work related moves
        -once a while highway rides only!!
        -hardly or never off-roading
        -speeds more than 120kmph would be hardly done
        -luxury preferred
        -need to enjoy a laid back experience
        -budget upto 10L
        -for some one in their 30s or 40s
        -residing in tier II city makes consistent supply avialability of good high octane fuel a little hard

        need to know which class of bike and what are options present now and in coming future!!

          I'd say ninja 650R or if you are looking for a litre class SBK i'd say yamaha FZ1.

            true these classifications can get confusing at times I remember master bike shoot outs where the terms you mentioned are used...

            sadly the tourers/cruisers/adventure/trials/enduros are invariably off the radar of most people (esp me ha ha)

              Ok , now that I have humour out of the way , let me think , the very fact that you posted this in a super bike forum means you are also looking for the x factor the it factor the oomph
              IF its comfort you are looking for and speed is not big on your list , ducatis are absolute no no , except the monster , which is a brilliant little bike

              HOnda cb1000r is also a stunning bike , very high in my books on looks , sTyle, power delivery , an absolute all rounder , my winner here

              KAwasaki er6f , another good one


              Don't know if super sports are available , but both. Cbr 600 and gsx600 are surprisingly comfy

                    probably one of the easiest queries posted here.

                    everything has been mentioned which points to just one bike - the honda cb1000r

                    - since it will be mostly city rides - naked makes more sense
                    - comfortable on highways too
                    - comfortable to ride
                    - easy to maintain (mentally and financially)
                    - fits in your budget
                    - it's a honda - you would love the butter smooth engine.

                      Hi,I've an important query.Is it possible to import a bike of your choice through established manufacturers in India?For example,Suzuki India imports hayabusa,gsx R1000 etc but they are only official launches.What if someone needs a suzuki bandit off the shelf?Are they available(legally)after paying the necessary duties?And what about spares/service regarding the same?Can anyone shed light on this? Thanks.

                        buy an fz1 . 10L , 1000 cc , 150 bhp. street naked and easy to ride in city. requires 91 octane fuel (regular one) . suspension is soft , heats up less than supersports.

                          It is priced at 9.5-10L. Its attention grabbing, has decent torque/power to make your money worth and has tremendous feel-good factor!

                                2010 Ducati GT 1000 Sportsclassic

                                I had been eyeing this particular bike since 2009 but didn't had enough funds to buy it when it was available in market. I tried to get a used one for sale in India but had no luck. I called up the Ducati Showroom in Mumbai but no positivity from them. The only option I have for me is importing it by myself or convince the ducati people to import it on a special request. Anyone has any prior experience with importing a superbike individually or have they got it done thru an agency which is reliable ? Any help would be appreciated.
