4th Service - 20,000 kms

A while back I did 4th service of my bike. Due to a lot of monsoon riding done we had to clean the radiator, exhaust & fairing inside out. Air filter was also replaced.
Sea woods, Vashi again did a fantastic job, mechanic Rehman as usual worked on the bike. I can't believe washing the bike took 2 hours alone and then complete service took another good 4 hours. A day well spent at the service center with friends

Total Service Cost: Rs.6000 / -

• Motul Radiator Coolant - Rs.329
• Oil Filter - Rs.450
• Motul 10w40 300V - Rs.1576
• Air Filter - Rs.1419

• Chain Lube and clean - Rs.181
• Radiator Labor - Rs.200

Finally did the much awaited tire change. Midori now has new set of tires
Stock Dunlop Roadsmart II lasted for 20K kms and were slightly overused. Ideal life could be close to 15-17K kms of these tires.

Now I have added Pirelli Angel ST for front and rear. They look good and hopefully will last for 15-20k kms. No ride report of the new tires as bike has not been used since tire change. New Pirelli Angel ST set costed 23K INR. As I learnt tire change on big bikes is quite a pain area. First, I had to visit Bajaj PBK to remove both tires. Then I had to take both the tires to the tire shop who removes the old tire from the rim and puts the new one, then I carry the new tire back to Bajaj PBK for fitting.

Some pics of the tire change below:

2 tires in the center are my old Dunlop Roadsmart II which were run for 20k kms.

Rear tire was removed using machine however front tire was removed manually as it has two discs and I could not add it on the machine as I had not removed one of the disc's.

Sachinnair. I trust you checked the exposure of the tread wear indicator (TWI) before changing the tyres? Asking because the TWI spot is not visible clearly in any of the pics. The main issue with tyres for such bikes is that the tread profile is almost a hemisphere. Therefore, the sides are less used than the centre (unless one is a cornering junkie) causing greater wear in the central part than the outers. Shucks, just have to take it that way, I suppose.

Any hassles in sourcing the tyres? Smart new ones, they are, the Piirelli STs...

There was no need to check anything. The center portion of the tire had become completely bald and flat. I was not able to lean the bike at all and any twisty roads I had to reduce the speed drastically. Under heavy braking the tire was not inspiring confidence anymore. Most of the owners have changed their stock tires between 12 - 15k kms so I guess I overused them quite a bit.

Yes, there was a lot of hassles to source new tyres as I wanted sport touring tires like Pirelli Angel / Michelin Pilot Road 3, etc. Readily available tires were only Metzeler and I was lucky to get a pair because of another Kwacker friend shrek. We managed to source 4 pairs of Angel ST from Auto Care, Thane for 4 N650 riders located in Mumbai.

• Ride to Joshi Wadewale, Pune
Date: 13th Oct'13
Route: NH 4
Distance Covered: 300 kms

New Tires, Open roads and good company. Had a fantastic ride to Pune and back. I have never seen Mumbai - Lonavala stretch so empty in a very long time now. This ride was simply zip - zap - zoom with constant check of hazards seen on our roads. The new Pirelli Angel ST tires performed flawlessly and I cannot actually bring any faults in the tires in my initial impression. One noticeable difference comparing it with Dunlop Road-smart II is how good Pirelli is in bad roads. There is very good feedback from the tires and the tire excels in stability, grip & felt extremely safe even at 190+ . Even got a chance to ride it in rain for the last 10 kms of the ride and it excels there too. Tire change has not had any negative impact on mileage either. The bike still return 25 kmpl

Time for some pictures...

Yeah, did a short spin on Palm Beach. This was my first time on a 1000 cc bike so was very gentle on the bike. Clutch pull was hard compared to the other lower capacity bikes I have rode till date which is fine for highway but for city riding it might be difficult because of its stiffness. Second thing noticed was how bad the wind blast hits you when you accelerate. Rest, the bike is awesome. Brilliant to turn, seating position is comfortable and brakes are nothing short of brilliant.

I know bout the wind-blast, its difficult to sit upright after 160ish.
You should have tried it with the RaceFit, if you feel this acceleration is crazy !

Yeah man, its very loud. I am glad he got rid of it. Anyways, 1000 cc naked SBK will always be crazy on our roads and needs a cool head to ride that beast.

True that ! But at the same time, a naked makes so much sense, practicality wise
