• Kawasaki Ninja650 Owner's Meet - Nagpur

When the Ninjutsu's met Sherkhan...

From Nagpur the story continued as we moved on to Pench Tiger Reserve in M.P. This time in a bus so don't expect any green Ninja pics in this post
A beautiful accommodation was arranged at Village Cottages in Pench. The fun and laughter riot happened all night in Pench Tiger Reserve followed by early morning safari.

Beware! This bus is full of Ninja's

appugodara - Wow! Brilliant ride my friend, now I am really interested to know how did the N650 perform & behave in Rann of Kutch. I was skeptical about riding Ninja in that terrain so your feedback would be highly appreciated.

@Sachinnair : I have read the thread completely since yesterday and I am in same position as you were before getting your N650 Firstly kudos for posting logs of all your rides without a miss! Great to see the bike being used for exactly what it is meant for.. touring!

Now that Triumph has hit the Indian shores and I am totally smitten by the Street Triple! Heart says triumph and mind says something more practical like Ninja 650R I have sat on both bikes and street triple feels at home mainly due to the exact same ergonomics as my RTR and the exhaust note is something worth listening again and again and again! But sadly, it commands more than 3L over Ninja 650 and for someone who is calculating every single penny on the EMI, it simply seems impractical Moreover the maintenance of this Brit would be even more than the ninja!

Waiting for the auto expo for some more launches and surprises, before deciding on anything. Might also end up settling for something in 250-500cc range as its lighter on the pocket and easier to get permission at home

Forgot to ask this, does tweaking suspension setting help in avoiding exhaust scraping?

@Sachinnair, I guess you are busy riding But anyways, test rode the N650R today in ring roads in Blore and I just have to say this, It was "Mindblasting"

One thing I liked most was I felt at home the moment I started the bike, no overwhelming jump at first gear and the weight just disappeared the moment the bike started moving. Riding in slow city speeds was much easier than I expected.
Had to take a nice corner in one of the flyover and the bike did it with ease.
Was in 4th or 5th gear (not sure) and was around 80s.. there was completely safe and straight stretch ahead and a small whack in the throttle and it reached 120 then 140+ in no time I was like what is going on, I couldnt even focus on speedo!! (I know this is common for you guys, but just saying what I experienced.)

Wonder if they launch 2014 version soon and hope they include ABS.
So bottomline, I was totally impressed with the bike, now the wait for the auto expo begins before any decision is taken. And also the Bajaj finance scheme sucks! Triumph offered a 7% flat rate interest and Bajaj is 10.35%

@Divya Sharan, Sirjee lets buy together, we can ask for 10% off or something

Hi Adarsh, At which showroom did you get your test ride? The Mekhri circle showroom declined to provide any test ride on the N650 when I visited them a few weeks ago.

It was my friend's bike I am not sure if any showroom offers test ride. I think we better discuss through PMs and not clutter Sachin's thread

Hey Adarsh,
First of all thanks for patiently reading every post in this thread. Must have taken sometime to grasp all the inputs / feedback but I am sure a prospect buyer would love to read it

Regarding dilemma before buying N650, Yes! I was eyeing the Street Triple but Triumph had shown no signs of launching their bikes that time hence, I chose the Ninja. Talking about present day, I think I would have still not bought the Street. But that's just me because I know how much I ride. If you ride a lot and do not want heavy maintenance and high running costs then Ninja 650 would be lot more friendly to your pocket compared to Street.

Auto Expo might just help you with few more choices which may launch in near future so it's a good thought to see all the new launches. Who knows what surprises are in store for us.

Tweaking suspension might help a bit in increasing GC but it will make your ride extremely bumpy. I am on stock setting since I bought and happy with it. Long rides with Pillion I think it is recommended to make the suspension a little hard. Can't confirm now as I am yet to do long rides with pillion.

As a matter of fact, I was busy riding

Glad you managed to get a test ride. Regarding ABS, who knows Kawasaki might finally bring in the ABS version. After the bombardment Kawasaki officials got in our Nagpur G2G for not giving ABS option they might bring in the ABS version. This might interest you - Kawasaki Ninja 300 and 650R with ABS | Bike India

Even if the ABS model does not come, don't worry. Just change your brake lines to Steel braided & replace stock brake pads with EBC Extreme Pro and trust me you won't need ABS

Regarding finance, I agree the Bajaj finance is loot. I opted for future capital loan at 7.1% You don't need to go for Bajaj finance, you can always look around in Nationalized banks and check whats best for you.

P.S. N650 does 180+ with ease!

Thanks for taking time to reply Sachin, so my guess was right! You were busy riding

And another big thanks to all of you for bombarding them about ABS! Have to wait and watch if they listen to it or not.

And I must have seen every single youtube review of N650R recently (at least those which have decent view count ) and almost everyone were quite happy with the bike, the practicality of it. Even if there are several options abroad in that segment, many opt for Ninja. So it is a bye bye for Triumph from my side at least for now as it is much more expensive to maintain.

Thanks for the tip regarding financing. I have to research more on it.

Hi Sachinnair. Awesome pics there bro. After following your thread for sometime, I have booked a Ninja 650 and awaiting delivery. i have got a few queries

1. I plan to use my kwacker for daily commuting as well as pleasure rides over the weekend. How according to u 650 will fare in daily office trips in peak traffic. How flickable is it?
2. How about low and mid end torque?? do we need to shift down frequently? i am upgrading from C-500.
3. Anything i need to be aware of or be prepared for? Like any niggles or issues u faced during your ownership??
4. What mileage can we expect in city and in highways.
5. Maintenance and upkeep costs?? I guess normal petrol should do just fine with the bike?
