Ducati 900SS was a 1998 production vehicle, it was an update of the 1992 design which was a best-seller in its time. I haven't experienced any rides beyond 500km as the stiff suspension would not allow you to survive further on the saddle, but Sunday morning rides around the corners of Lavasa , Mahableshwar and Lonavla have always been enjoyable. It's loaded with a very raw 904cc, 90o -placed V- twin cylinder engine equipped with 2 valves per cylinder fueled by a carburetor. The bike produces 83.34 HP (61.3 kW) @ 7500 rpm . In terms of gadgets and technological aspects, the bike is very basic, but the raw power of the loud rattling engine is enough to wheelie at every gear shift. In fact, I have had problems with the regularly appearing tank slappers, hence I am planning for a stiffer steering damper as the stock one is not enough. For the time being in order to avoid this problem, leave the bars lose and the bike gains control itself. The bike does not come with a liquid cooling system and its relies on oil cooling system; but it never had any kind of heating issue even in case of traffic jams in crowded places like Dadar, Sion, etc. But the only problem is that the hydraulic clutch is so hard to hold on to in slow traffic flow, it feels worse than 10 heavy sets of exercising forearms at the gym.
The bike is amazing on corners and proves to be the perfect "track machine" but the stiffness in handling makes it impossible to control in unexpected eventualities like pushing it deeper towards the corners, on seeing an approaching car or suddenly shift position on spotting gravel. The feel of a perfect corner ending with a wheelie, along with a slight slide appearing on breaking pre -corners, makes every turn perfect. Satisfaction and thrill is a guaranteed part of the package. My tires have almost given way ; the reason being, the regularly appearing fish tail. I preferably don't risk much on the corners till my new set of tires arrive but minor mistakes are taken care of by the bike.

The bike seems to be unique with its classic sports design; I never expected the bike to even be noticed at the Super Bike Festival in Pune. However some people spent hours staring and clicking her from different angles and her slender curves. There were a million question asked and I was surprised to find people actually interested in the bike. Ofcourse, every one steps back when it comes to revving the engine, and in fact some even compared it to the sound of a tractor. In actuality it is like music to the ears for me; a very raw sound, and every hertz of frequency that it hits sequentially with the vibration of the bike while riding it. The experience of a V-twin in play cannot be described in words. Sometimes riders should take a break from the in-line 4's and actually explore torque and power of a V twin.

I am very attached to the bike, hence don't intend on selling it; in fact ill keep it stock and well preserved for the day my kids ride it.

          Re: Ducati 900SS

I can so relate to your post buddy...after owning multiple inline-4 sbks for last 10yrs, i recently moved on to V-TWINS for the first time (i had a parallel twin Honda CB400, but she was my dad's ride). I picked up a 2000 model Honda VTR 1000R recently, one of the reason for doing so was that i need some thing different than what i had previously owned (my last bike was a cbr600f2), but another major reason was that i cudnt get my hands on a decent legal inline4 bike at the right price. But now after having her for some time i am glad i moved on to Vtwins.

They are so much fun to ride vs the inline4s, oodles of torque and just the right size to throw into a corner or ride in the regular city traffic. Yes the sound is bit of a let down if you are used to the inlines but mine come with " Danmoto carbon fibre GP exhaust", so she is loud as hell. The best part about these machines is the the torque makes it fun to ride in the city, she pops wheelies even in the third gear.

Would love to see your Vtwin beauty in person some time.....

PS - there is a small sbk meet today evening in vashi, u can join in if you are in mumbai....

              gorgeous bike

how in the world did you manage to get your hands on it?

              looks in pristine condition

and i can completely understand your emotions while riding - the wheelies, the rattle, the eagerness to bite you on every chance - ohhh there is a reason why one falls in love with a ducati.

one thing caught my attention - you mentioned fishtailing - is it because you are using just the rear brake?? ideally your 80% braking happens with the front brakes. now if you use just the rears - fishtail is inevident - and at times it can get a bit scary
Biking is a religion, not a hobby!!

really thank you for the invite.. sorry was not able to make it, but i am riding lavasa every sunday, u can join me along with other riders anytime.. You are welcome.
I have ridden a VTR its a extremely lethal bike.. not only in the 3rd but it lifts in every gear..
Have u ever experienced time slappers occurring more often.. the VTR i had ridden was equipped with a aftermarket steering damper just to control this.
Love to have some pics of ur machine

                Ride safe

my pleasure.. i often ride to lavasa, u can join

                ----consecutive posts auto-merged-----

Yup its very frightening, always happens before entering a corner.. i often break by bopping the gears.. never use rear break, perhaps that can be a possible reason - or my bike needs a new set of tires..
But lately i have learned to control it, in fact i am enjoying the slides

                thankyou sure...
