  • My Red Triumph Daytona 675

To start with I would like to tell that it was always my dream to own a super sports bike after I watched Dhoom 1. However that was bit difficult to achieve as I was still studying and my Dad was a service person with no support towards biking. However years passed by and I got a job and started working hard. However after few years when I had some money I realised how exorbitantly they were priced and was beyond my budget. It took me some good 3 years to make my mind again to buy sports bike however our Government policies aren't for bikers and their high import duties continued to get high.
In 2014 I was really determined to buy Sports bike. All bikes were costing 17 Lakhs plus on road Delhi.
I had eye on Kawasaki ZX 10R , Hayabusa and Honda CBR.
Each bike has it's pros and cons. Honda CBR is brilliant all rounder but somehow I didn't like the new shape. Hayabusa looked good and powerful but somehow didn't liked the colour schemes. Probably still missed Dhoom Hayabusa colour.
ZX10R was felt to be the bike which I was looking for. Finally me and my wife decided to own one. Now the arrangement for the money started.
When I was about to buy 10R, Triumph new showroom in Delhi opened and I went to see their offerings. Daytona was in my mind but I had to drop the idea because of price of 12.5 Lakhs for a 600cc bike with white colour which was not of my taste. When I visited the showroom I was offered Daytona 675 which was costing 1.5 Lakhs less than 675R with lots of colour options to choose. I took the test ride and was amazed with the power this 600 cc bike is offering. To be honest it was very light, very flickable and relatively quite comfortable to ride. The power the bike was offering was sufficient to ride and have fun at any place if u r not a professional track racer. Even I am pretty sure this bike won't be much behind than any 1000 cc bike on tracks.
I have to submit I couldn't deny the offer and done the booking of the bike.
Beyond my expectation I recieved Call from Triumph Delhi that my bike is available in stock for delivery on 10 Aug 14. So I quickly arranged for the remaining amount and finally took the delivery on 22 Aug 14.
I am attaching few pics of the delivery day. Also would be updating initial experience with the bike in next post.

Re: My Red Triumph Daytona 675

        Thanks a lot friends.
Now after completion of 300 km on my Red Fury, my few Observations:-

        Comfort
I have ridden Hayabusa, Fireblade, Gsxr and R1. This is by far most comfortable SuperSports bike primarily because of 185 Kg wt. and it's size which is not smaller in comparison thereby making handlebars easily reachable and puts less strain to wrist. However long duration ridding in traffic does tire neck.

        Handling
This machine is eager to be flicked at corners. It's so light that it aspires confidence in corners and has Good Grip on road. I could feel ABS working , atleast rear tyres! Didn't enter in a situation of hard braking so cant really comment much on ABS as of now. Brakes are Satisfactory. Rear brakes are Brambo brakes while front brakes are Nissin.

        Power
Low to mid end power is great. Since the vehicle is under Run in so really not trying to push above 5K except on few occasions. It is so mapped that you can easily ride comfortably at 40 kmph at 6th gear. However the power pinch is felt above 6000 RPM.

        Economy
Well I really couldn't calculate properly but riding in heavy traffic 30% of times is giving 220 kmph on tank full. Will update later after first servicing.

        Negatives
So far none Except some errors of occasional trip meter malfunction. Shown to Triumph Service center. Mr. Om Prakash is very friendly and really shows genuine concern for the issue. He would get the bike picked on Monday to check for any loose connections before changing the Speed Sensor. The trip meter malfunction also fails ABS and somehow Engine Fail Light on after start, though it often goes away but sometimes continues to stay after start. However computer scan shows no engine error or malfunction but Motion sensor malfunction. I hope this would be resolved soon. Would update on this.

tomorrow morning going for ride and would upload more pics.

ID:	1888899Thanks a ton. Regarding going for Daytona for spending around 2.7 Lakhs more widely depends upon what you are looking for. Street triple is optimised for punchy city commute as well as high way fun whereas Daytona falls in SuperSports category. Following are few reasons why to consider Daytona as first sports bike.

                1. Very Light with Wt of 185 Kg.
                2. Very easy to handle and comfortable to ride even in city.
                3. Very smooth and powerful engine of 128 PS and nice grunt of inline three. With addition of Arrow Exhaust the power and sound would further enhance the character of the bike.
                4. Cheapest SuperSports (6 Lakhs cheaper than any 1000cc SuperSports!) which can equalise or even excel on tracks from any 1000cc though would lag behind on straights ( racing on straight roads isn't about sports biking).
                5. Can do 260 kmph plus which is sufficient for roads available here in India. Even anyone who owns BMW S1000R would not be taking it regularly to that speeds! ( I m not comparing Daytona with S1000R though)
                6. Ideal for learning sports biking. I personally recommend to learn sports biking before shifting to more relaxed rides after certain age. Only then one would understand and appreciate the limits and potential as well as capability of sports bike which a naked or commuter bike can't do.
                7. Unlike Japanese bikes Triumph maintains the parts support for all it's model for years which allows an option for triumph owners to keep and maintain bikes for lifetime.
                8. Very stable at high speeds (above 140 kmph)and wind blast is minimal.
                9. Good options for colour schemes in Daytona 675 version.
                10. Looks gorgeous in Red!
                And many more......

                Regarding Street triple and Daytona

                1. Street is a naked street bike with good punch of 105PS whereas same engine has been retuned to give 128PS for Daytona which is fun to rev. So Daytona is more powerful.
                2. Exhaust note of Daytona is heavier and has more grunt in comparison. Putting Arrow exhaust on Daytona would further makes the sound heavy.
                3. Daytona offers excellent streamlining and has very little wind blast at high speeds. Any naked bike would start to struggle beyond 140 kph and would tire the rider.
                4. Though it's a personal take, most people would like the looks of any SuperSports and Daytona would have more road presence. ( people liked R1 new model over massive Suzuki BKing!!)
                5. Street is extremely comfortable to ride in any traffic condition. Daytona comes quite close to comfort in city traffic to street triple though obviously not totally. Unless one is not riding in long traffic jam conditions Daytona should be fine in moderate traffic.
                6. Cheapest legal showroom true SuperSports bike with better fuel economy than 1000cc bikes.
                7. One should go for street triple if he wants an upright ride and has owned and ridden SuperSports a lot already so that there isn't anything new to learn. Or budget limitation or fascinated with its looks.

It all depends on what one is looking for. If u can extend your budget to 11 Lakhs then you won't regret buying Daytona.
Today I did 110 kph long ride on Noida Expressway and occasionally took the bike to 130 kph. It pulls hard in linear manner without sudden burst of power. However due to run in period quickly used to come back to 5K RPM.
i m attaching few pics though would click more once rain stops in Delhi

Thanks a lot for very detailed and useful information and valid points. Your points make me to lean over dayatona. Till now hadn't ridden any super sports. So i felt street triple as very comfort.will wait and stretch my budget for dayatona. Sitting on it gave me some mixed feeling wether able to ride in that posture or not and also liked a lot that posture. Anyway waiting to have a test ride of dayatona then let me judge what my brain thinks and where my heart lean because mind is like a monkey when nearing forty. Anyway thanks for your great inputs and always waiting for your nice updates, pictures, and further details about the amazing machine.

                          Thanks for appreciating.
would definately keep updating my experience with lots of photos.
Also I would appreciate other fellow members to ask me any thing related to bike and my ownership. This would be good mutual contribution for the know how about the bike.

                          Update

Completed 450 Km on the bike. After 30 km more would be allowed to maintain RPM till 6K. On sixth gear and RPM 5K the speed is roughly 93 to 94 kph. At 6K speed is 105 kph.
Yesterday did 160 km of run which includes 50% city ride. I must agree Delhi traffic really can tire you a bit if you ride for few hours in traffic.

Today my bike was picked up by Triumph service center to rectify the Trip meter sensor malfunctioning. They promised to return the bike today itself!

Can anybody tell me that can I occasionally rev to higher RPMs though not sustained. Yesterday by mistake pulled the bike on 1 st Gear to 8K RPM and bike did wheelie Just loved it.

Foremostly, congrats on owning one of the most refined supersports!
A point to instigate though here, 600cc and 1000cc category serve their respective purpose, undoubtedly 600cc stand in league towards performance, but it cannot equalize or excel a 1000cc supersports segment, it is more related on the rider abilities, a professional on 600 can anytime beat a 1000cc novice or intermediate on a track, but equalize rider abilities, 600cc supersports will get beaten upfront irrespective of twisties/straigh/mix circuit track.

The run-in period is there to bed components righteously, primarily of bedding piston into cylinder. Frequent bursts rather works good, it is more in terms of performance based bed-in, its a choice you need to make, these are discussed to the core in xbhp you may search the relevant thread.
With my R15, P220, Ninja 250R etc. I chose performance based bed-in, while for GT650R a mix of both, but care need to be taken on it, else you will notice engine crank sounds (reduction of engine life as a long term effect), however if done righteously it is worth it. With the GSXR 1000 I have currently, it is a mix of run-in bed as I was not the first owner, but can make out based on the former owner claim and the throttle/ride response
