No news about impounding any bikes as of yet !! But they are here... Thats for sure... Coz i felt the difference last night. My area where i stay has 70% of the superbikes of the city.

so you do have an illegal busa huh kriss!!! hey 99% who owns an SBK except the guys who got official R1's from yamaha have illegal bikes....so whats the point in telling me to go for an official new one!!! i dont want a new one i dont like the looks!!! see most of us save up for an SBK and would probably have a budget even the same with me i have a budget of 6.5 lks and i am trying to get a bike in that range thats all.....

Forget it.. You cannot import a 600cc officially. Legal imports are allowed for only 800cc and above.

Go buy and illegal 600 or a 1000 cc.... go on a drive, and to rest for some time you park the bike on a roadside. A 20wheeled volvo lorry will just run onto ur bike, or u'll go crash into something oneday... its not your mistake, its your fate... you lost the bike, its into pieces and is ready for sale to scrap. And forget then and there itself about it!!!!

An official bike... u need not bother about any thing... let lorries runover it, let eagle come and take it away... You always have insurance... and other papers to claim another... or to replace with other...

heck... finally its ur decission... your headache to choose which bike man...

The bikes in India are not "Illigal" dealers just use cavets in our own laws to exploit for gains, moreso its the customs officials as well they also earn money in return. And now they are just making hue and cry for no bloody reason at all.

Its not that simple they can still pick up the bike and demand documents, like me and akhil are worried. We have officially imported vehicles but dont have the Bill of Entry or the Homologation Certificate. So it doesnt matter they are just out to trouble people and nothing else.


Its not that simple, and I would like people here to refrain from asking personal questions about members vehicles and how they got them etc etc, we should keep all that to PM.

Why don't you just buy a 600RR and then go to the DRI guys and tell them its illegal. They will charge you around 4-5L including fines and duty. After that your bike is as legal as rossiters R1!!

ok i still havnt got one...so how many of you guys who HAVE SBK's are willing to do it!????ie declare to an official that "sir my bike is illegal and i am willing to pay the fine and make it legal"....does any one has the GUTS to do it!!???....being patriotic and helping the government is good on paper but is any one of you SBK owners out there is willing to do what bladerunner asks me!! so apart from the R1 all other bikes are illegal??is that what you are telling blade! yeah even in the R1's how many are official n how many are from dealers...if allthe R1's were legally bought then the dealers would be out on the streets to earn a living...the truth is a few lakhs is still a few lakhs and people still buy bikes from the dealers!!!

manav you seem to understand the truth buddy!!! there is the legal R1 in india and then there are a hundred more of different bikes out there and everybody seems to be talking only about an R1!!! what if i want a brand new gixxer 600????i still has to apporach the dealers right!? and have you noticed that there is always a celebrity involved in these raids....when the raid on cars were there a few years ago sachin,sanjay dutt,salman khan all of them cam e under the limelight..these government morons just want to be heard and picking a celebrity is the best way to get paper space!!when they had their fill of cash they will stop the so called raids!

You cant take a 600cc bike to a DRI office and claim to pay duties. Its illigal bikes below 801cc cannot be homoligated hence the duty doesnt matter, its illigal PERIOD. Didnt you read the article in Bike India sometime back?

Our very own ARAI rejected Gixxer 1000 sometime back when it was sent for homoligation stating that the front turning signals are too high, there is no saree guard and the rear seat is too high. My god!

Lastly its the Customs duty to collect the tax and stuff the DRI is just there to ensure the country is getting the TAX it deserves and no-one is trying to evade it. It doesnt matter bike, car or helicopter. Didnt you read the news on the amount of private jets and helecopters that were there and how much duties were evaded?

When you don't have the money to buy legal, why are you asking people for advice here? Go buy illegal if that's what you can afford.

There are people who import bikes themselves and pay all the duty that they should in the first place without looking to evade. Those bikes are just as clean as the ones from the showroom. Its a different thing that very few Indians think that way these days. That also goes for bikes that have been brought down on transfer of residence. There are a few of those in Bombay and they aren't scared to ride even now.

Haven't you heard about the launch of the Suzuki's and the Honda's? Why do you keep repeating the R1 over and over?

People who want to spend less are usually the ones who want to show off. I wouldn't want to spend even 1 lakh on a bike that could be taken away from me someday. I wouldn't want to spend in lakhs and then have to hide my bike during such times. I would spend so much money so that I can ride whenever I feel like.

I feel these raids will put some sense into people. Obviously, you're not one of them. This is going to happen on a regular basis now and rightly so.

Dude, there is a 2003 600RR in Bombay that was picked up in the last raid in 2004. I saw it myself at the customs warehouse when I went there for an auction. The owner paid all the dues he had to and now that bike is back on the road and is as legal as anything.

In the current raid that took place, a '06 600RR belonging to someone I know was picked up and he was told that they will call him back. He wasn't told to forget the bike. He will eventually have to pay what was evaded in the first place and get his bike back. Just spoke to him yesterday.

The Suzuki's and Honda's are being imported from Japan. If a bike is being imported from the country of origin (unlike the R1 is from Australia), it does not have to be homologated unless, its below 800cc. So, I can't believe that the gixxer 1000 was rejected. It could have been the 750. That is also the reason you will not see a saree guard on the official Busa or Intruder and the Honda's that have just been launched.

Do you really think the ARAI is good enough to reject a Japanese SBK that has been accepted all over the world? Just because they have some authority in this country, they will obviously throw their weight around.

The 929 that I had pm'd you about is as clean as anything you will see on the road in Pune. That is a personal import and all the imports by the first owner of that bike are similar. Why do you think the current owner paid 7.5L for it in '07? You can just imagine how much the first owner paid when he imported it.

Lastly, if there are loopholes in the customs rules, people are definitely going to exploit them. But, as a sensible buyer you should know what to buy because in such times its you who will pay for the mistake. Don't forget which country you're in. Its easy to sit at home and say that the customs should not let such bikes out in the first place. Such things don't change overnight.

Well now the scene is that there are more than 600 Bikes impounded by the DRI in mumbai, pune and bangalore combined.

buddy all of the ones who has an SBK is there to show off!!!maybe not by stunting and stuff but by riding one among a hundred small bikes gives you the high...that you can afford something expensive enough that would be mayb 3 years salary for someone.....and if its not show off why would you take itt in the traffic...are these meant for our kind of traffic???if you are not a showoff then you would only use it on highways or mayb nights when there is no traffic so that you can utilise the power available...no bu t u still want to show people thts all.....u me everybody are like this!!

I hate riding an SBK in the day and in the traffic. I always ride at night or early morning. That goes even for an RX.
