    Hi there,

    Approx cost of Chain-Sprocket kit is around Rs 16-18000 + some labour will be there. Average cost of service is quite a variable thing. For minor service you may spend as little as Rs 5000-6000 if it is just Oil Change + Oil Filter Change + Basic service activities (e.g. Washing, Front Brake Pad Cleaning, Air Filter Cleaning, Throttle Body Cleaning and general checks like Clutch Cable, Accelerator Cable etc, Coolant Top-up, Brake Fluid Top-up etc). But for major service the bill can go pretty high depending on what gets done (anywhere from 12000 odd to 25000 etc depending on what all gets changed - Major Service Kit needs to be taken after 20000 km, 40000 km etc.).

    You can inform the Service In-charge that you don't want to get a major service along with major service kit done because of less km done (e.g. if you are supposed to have 4th year service which is major service at 40000 km but actually it's just 30000 km on the ODO - then you can ask them to make it minor instead of major service and don't buy the kit). This can make a big difference in maintenance costs.

      Thanks Jeevan for keeping this thread alive for this long. It took me 2-3 hours to go through what you have put in on owning this motorbike and I am truly happy for this unbiased and simple feedback. I have few questions for you.

      1. Can you please post your service costs till date in a post so that it can help many prospective buyers?
      2. Can you tour for lets say about 100-200 kms with a pillion? I know this motorbike isn't pillion friendly but lets say once in a month or so? How about short breakfast rides?
      3. Would it be too cramped for a 6'2" guy?
      4. Any other pointers from cost point of view? Would it be too hard to maintain for a fellow coming from a middle class family who just wanna 'Live' before time runs out? I hope you feel me here.

        Biggest issue id say for touring should be the ground clearance.

          Yes....but then again..most nakeds have horrible ground clearance as far as Indian roads go....I kind of got used to it....

            Keep the tyres in proper psi and have someone "knowledgeable" look into suspension sag settings for your weight

                Hey there,

                I am back after a long hiatus from this thread!

                I am happy to report that even now my Red Rose is going strong after almost 6.5 years!

                I have done touring on this bike to a fair extent even though that's not really my preferred riding type.

                Pune - Chikmagaluru, Pune-Murudeshwar, Pune-Guhagar, Pune-Chorla are somewhat longish rides that I have done. But there are people who have done multi-state tours of South and some have been adventurous enough to take Street Triple even to Khardung-La etc but I would not recommend getting too adventurous with this bike.

                I have done numerous rides to Kolhapur, Mahabaleshwar, Ahmednagar and more.

                Ground Clearance is relatively less when we compare with any normal Indian brand bike. So of course one has to be quite careful. However, at least when not having a pillion, it is manageable as long as you ensure that you really slow down a lot while crossing any major speed breaker - especially anything that has a rather sharp rising slope - and even more so when there are like 3-4-5 smaller speed-breakers immediately after each other.

                In all of 6.5 years, I have scraped the bottom lightly only 3-4 times - not more! I have not suffered any major damages as I have been quite careful.

                So, with care, Street Triple proves to be quite a good touring bike and one can easily do multi-day tours on it with every travelling day covering 400-500 km or even more depending on your stamina. Try to stick to good roads as much as possible even though we have been through under construction roads, bad village roads infested with stones, dirt and loose soil etc also occasionally. With some care, one can indeed manage even on those roads - but it's not the right bike for doing all that.

                One always must be careful not to hit brakes while encountering any sharp edged pothole. This can damage the front rim badly even with a medium speed impact. If you are going to face somewhat unpredictable conditions with bumps and potholes, then you should use slightly higher pressure at front (35 psi) as this significantly reduces teh chances of rim taking a hit if you do hit a big pothole. But if you know you are going to encounter sweeping corners and switchback turns etc, then maintain slightly lower tyre pressures than usual to extract a bit extra grip (33 psi at front and may be 36-38 psi at rear).

                    My Cortech Latigo Air RR boots also went kaput and last year in May-2019, I bought up Sidi Vertigo 2 boots at about ₹21000. These seem to be excellent quality and should last fairly long - but these are not as comfy as the Cortech ones - but these feel far more secure.
                    Hello Jeevan, It's great to see your thread again. Not too often I see someone hanging on to their beloved rides this long considering the itch to upgrade.

                    I'm in the process of upgrading my gears as it's been 8 years and am considering the SIDI Rex & vertigo 2 boots.

                    You mentioned you've upgraded to SIDI vertigo 2 boots a brief review would be of great help.
