hahaha.. I am a fan of Honda. They make some of the best engines out there, but the service quality on Honda vehicles have been a disappointment since I owned one. The bike was held together purely on Honda engineering and not on the after sales service and that is the one and only thing that kept me away from a Honda. If the situations improve I would be more than happy to get one.Originally posted by Deathwing View PostSurprised you never considered the CBR 650f, it's accomplished tourer as well.

I hope this was the case, but sadly it is not. Kawasaki Bangalore did not have stock for the parts, Kawasaki Pune did. But they deliver on the request of a service centre not for individuals. For individuals I think you or your friend has to be present at the service centre to purchase from Pune and get it. Presently Kawasaki Bangalore does not have parts in stock for new bikes I suppose.Originally posted by leech View PostCan we order parts in advance, like footpegs, mirrors and levers from the Kawasaki dealers?
Considering the lead times presently as long as 3-4 weeks for trivial things as levers and pegs, It sucks to leave your bike waiting this long when the issue needs 15 minutes to fix.
Also, I saw that the parts are imported from Japan, so there is that adding to the wait time. Brake levers cost Rs.3540 when I last checked. Rear sets maybe twice as much or more.____________________

You should see the ownership review and I've heard nothing but good things, rachit from delhi may be able to guide you on the ownership plus hes mentioned the service costs being close to 5000-6000rs which is really great for a 600 cc bike. I don't think Kawasaki even offer a TD on any of their bike obviously for reasons , honda does, do test ride all your options before u decide and go through the ownership reviews.Originally posted by ArunMKumar View Posthahaha.. Re: My new Touring partner | Ninja 650- 2017
I think fall even while standing can cause some of these parts to break, especially bikes nearing 200kgs. The brake levers and foot peg supports are designed for their operation not to take the weight of a falling bike. The brakes levers and some other parts are cast aluminum and can brake on hard impact.
Kawasaki is having spares shortage as it seems according to one technician, their parts were getting duplicated during their collaboration with Bajaj and hence they have taken back all stocks and redistributing the same only to authorised kawasaki outlets after cataloging.
You gave your bike to your friend to pose without knowing his capability or experience and unfortunately you pay the price. You are lucky to not have a faring crack/scratch as that would have been expensive.

yup.. My bad.. I should have been more careful. I am in talks with the service centre and the Insurance guys. Lets see, what they have to say.Originally posted by sparky View PostI think fall even while standing can cause some of these parts to break, especially bikes nearing 200kgs. Re: My new Touring partner | Ninja 650- 2017
Very sad to hear this update. A brand new bike falling on its first day is not a pleasant sight. Mistakes happen sometimes from us sometimes from others we trust. Fact is you cannot change what's already occurred so no point divulging into it. Learn from the experience and ensure it does not happen in future.
Regarding the breakage of these parts, well I have seen a couple of foot peg mounts broken in different Ninja models (N250R & N650). But in both these cases the riders had a bad fall. From standstill, it's unlikely to break but then may be the awkwardness of the fall and direct impact /angle + entire load on one side might have caused it. Kawasaki motorcycles are known for their solid reliability and quality so I don't think it's fair to say the bike's quality is fragile or inferior. Every part is designed for a purpose and there may be limits to the stress points of what each part can handle.
Keep everything aside, drop the bike at the Kawasaki Service Centre and initiate the Insurance claim process. Post the survey is complete and based on the parts that are passed by the surveyor to be replaced under insurance, the service centre will initiate the parts order. It may take up to 1 month at least for the parts to arrive. Do regular follow ups with service centre so that you they understand your urgency. I am surprised the fairings or bar ends don't have a scratch when there is damage to foot-peg & brake lever.
P.S. I have been down this road before, I know how it feels when someone else drops your bike. Also, I know how it feels when a brand new bike takes a hit. So stay calm and don't think too much about it. A few months down the line, you will be busy enjoying a nice ride on some lovely ghat and this memory will be much less painful.

And yes, it does crumble and crash like a deck of cards in a crash.Originally posted by ArunMKumar View PostBut, the brake lever broke off.. and the footpeg just came off after sometime.. is it normal for Kawasaki bikes to be this fragile? I had my Honda grind up against the road at 80kmph.. and it took it like a champ.
I am seriously concerned about my safety if the bike is so fragile.. it will just crumble like chips in a crash.
I had met with an accident on the highway and had t-boned a Hero Duet (Scooter). Lo and behold, the Ninja looks as if it had hit a concrete wall. The scooty only suffered a broken exhaust pipe.
Reapirs charges:
6lacs+ for Ninja.... Wont be more than 10k for scooty.

Yup... I have learnt my lesson.. I am dropping the bike off to the service centre Tommorow.
A little surprise was the fact that the service centre asked me to pay the price ahead of time once the assesment by the insurer is done and I can collect the money back from the insurer (reliance general insurance in this case).
Sounds wierd but let's see how things turn up.

How fast was the crash? Did the bike slide after the hit? What all was damaged? And yes please do share the pics..Originally posted by hellgate View PostAnd yes, it does crumble and crash like a deck of cards in a crash.

Even if your insurance company does not provide cashless facility, you only need to pay Kawasaki for the bill once it is generated post re-survey is completed once the parts are fitted. You don't need to pay them now as you are not getting parts available off the shelf.Originally posted by ArunMKumar View PostThanks Sachin for the kind words... [emoji5]

Kawasaki's job right now would be to order parts and once their shipment reaches the service centre they are supposed to fit the parts and then make the final bill (Spare parts + Labour). You pay this final bill and then wait for reimbursement from your insurance company. That's how ideally it is supposed to work.
Ask them for valid reason why they need money right now, get it in writing and you can raise a complaint to India Kawasaki highlighting this concern. From dealer to dealer way of dealing things may vary so take a stand. From my past experiences, I have never paid them before the re-survey. It's not a case where the parts ordered are extremely costly where the customer is asked to pay some advance as a guarantee.

makes sense to me, I sent out a mail to Kawasaki India regarding this, which got routed to rideventur Kawasaki Bangalore. But the reason does not make much sense to me.
The mail states..
"No payments are taken from Customers in advance for General or Regular service Category of a vehicle, where a regular Oil Change, washing and replacing consumables like Oil Filters, Air Filters and Brake Pads.
In your case, a 50% advance payment is collected for broken/damaged components as we need to place an Order Booking against your Name, as this component will not be utilised for any other customer."
The component will not be utilised for any other vehicle agreed, but the vehicle that needs is left with them. The parts are ordered on a need basis, this also raises the question, if for some reason a a part that is not required is ordered, lets say My foot-pegs are fine but the mount has broken, and if the foot-pegs are ordered too, I will end up with an extra foot-peg that I have no use of. This is a lame example where we can make out by visual inspection but can it be denied in the case of engine components? in any case the parts are ordered on a "as per need" basis, then why is there a question about "not being utilised for any other vehicle.

Congratulations Arun.
I am sure it is a great feeling in spite of the setback. As someone rightly mentioned when you are riding this fabulous machine you will forget all about this setback. I eagerly await more updates when you finally get on the saddle.
I have been (over)thinking about going ahead with the 2017 N650 for the past few months. Hopefully by Diwali I should join you as a proud N650 owner.
Cheers.

I am riding it as of now without the right footpeg. And the bike itself feels great.. what I liked the most was it's rideability at low speeds, I sometimes have to go through slow traffic before I reach the ring road in Bangalore, the bike handles it really well. Starting from 10kmph no problems at all, and when you reach the ring road it will easily cruise at 50-60kmph in 3rd gear with revs around 3-4k mark.
And when your heart desire it will give you the push too.. it's addictive just don't overdo it, atleast not in traffic[emoji1] .Just know that the power and torque are there when you need them.be careful if you have a pillion, low end torque can catch them unaware.
I have ridden the ninja 1000 too, which is smoother than the 650, but the parallel twin has its own character, you can feel the speed building up and it does pretty quickly. on the 1000 it is deceptive.
I am still in the break-in period, should not rev it past 4k. But yes the bike is enjoyable, does not feel dangerous or out of control at all. The engine is juat slightly viby but I found it to be good, never a problem for me, I take it as a feedback from the engine as to what it is upto.
And yes there is a very low intake sound, won't notice it in heavy traffic but it is there.
My issues till now have been with Kawasaki Bangalore in general not with the bike. The insurance policy which they sell with the bike "reliance general" does not provide cashless facility so you have to shell money from your pocket and claim it later. Parts availability is an issue as with all imports.
My advice would be to go with the bike, it looks beautiful in black(personal preference), and make sure whatever insurance you are getting provides you cashless facility, verify this with the customer care and get the number of the cashless garage too.. call them( garage) and get atleast a verbal confirmation that they provide cashless facility for Kawasaki bike in your city. This has been a big pain point for me.. don't do the same mistake as me and get the crash guard installed on Delivery, if they cannot then get I done ASAP.
Don't try to handle the bike without proper gear, not even when it's parked, it's heavy and you never know when it may fall on your leg, I was moving it once with my slippers on and it had just rained, very little water on the ground. My leg slipped and the bike fell on my leg. So only shoes from now on.
Respect the machine and it will reward you accordingly.

Re: My new Touring partner | Ninja 650- 2017
Hi ArunMKumar
First of all, congratulations on the beautiful black Kawasaki Ninja2017 650. It is a preety neat and amazing machine, being a parallel twin gives a great feeling of a mini pocket rocket ๐๏ธ. I do own a similar kwacker, Kawasaki Ninja2017 650 but a KRT edition delivered 2 months ago from RideVentur Blre. Going good with 2.5k kms clocked uptil now. No complains so far yet.
All the same, i do feel sorry and bad for your loss and setback that has occurred on the first wonderful day, where you must be rejoicing with the bike, whereas an incident like this, snatches all the happiness out.
The bike is preety nimble, light and sleak compared to the previous versions , additionally the side stand is too thin which always gives me a feeling that it would give away any moment. Keeping the bike on any surface, first lets out a thought in my mind that 'is the bike stable enough to leave it alone and go away for sometime ???? '. A second thought or probably the third one does strike to me, and i move ahead to check the stability once again. Yes, the bike is now prefectly aligned. But still somewhere, in some corner deep down in my heart, there sometimes still arises thoughts which makes me not trust the side-stand. Yet constantly being with such thoughts, i have been soo much foolish yet to not having installed the protection kits i.e frame sliders and all untill now. This incident of yours, is not only a unfortunate situation, but also a learning lesson for me as well.
Truly, a bike does respect a rider, only if he applies the same respect in return.
My experience at the svc :
During my first visit to the service center, i was told that the required engine oil isn't in stock. I had heard Kawasaki parts aren't in stock, but never expected atleast any premium service center to run out of Engine Oil Stock (Motul 7100 10w40). I was told to wait for 2 - 3 days minimum and expect a call from those guys. And i had no other option. Didn't want to keep the precious bike in a service center for no reason, hence rode off away with it only to return back within 3 days, since i did actually get a call from the Kawasaki Svc guys about the availability of motul 7100 10w40 Engine Oil ๐๐๐๐. Finally with the other required task completion, the first srvc of the kwacker baby, was completed within a timeline of 2.5 hrs.
The green beast has been until now so far, so good. Hoping the kwacker continues to treat me the same way in the near future times ahead.
All the best brother, and looking forward to ride along with you some day.

Re: My new Touring partner | Ninja 650- 2017
hey swayan, congratulations on the green sibling of my bike. regarding the side stand, Yes I sometimes get that feeling too. The word that comes to my mind is "just enough strength" when I see the side stand or some other parts, Kawasaki Bangalore is under equipped as of now in regards to parts, My brake levers were broken and a lead time of 4 weeks was provided to me,
What you can do is order the part from Kawasaki pune and have it delivered here, I got my brake levers within 24 hours instead of the 4 weeks as told by Kawasaki service centre. unfortunately they do not have the footpeg mount as of now.
Side stand looks "just enough" to me, I believe it can perform but yeah a little push from the other side is all it will take to topple the bike over. That is why I am parking it in closed spaces and if the place is open I am always present around. Don't want to take chances, with the service centre and the insurance policies not being up to the mark.
Frame sliders: Get them. bt do understand that in the event of a fall, The handlebar would still hit the ground and the levers can break off. same can be said about the pillion and rider footpeg. you cannot avoid that.
I am jealous that you got to ride the bike and I am yet to take it to the highway. have completed only 100km till now. I have started the claim procedure which took 12 days, and the only god knows how much more time.
Enjoy your bike and donโt worry much about the side stand. Ride long and ride safe buddy.____________________
