But isn't that for a '2nd quarter of 2011 launch'? So why are they homologating it for now? And how is it being imported? CKD? SKD? CBU (not possible, has to be over 8ooccs)?
But knowing Bajaj you can safely bet its coming after 3 years...
You get the point?? :D

Goverment belives that Indian two-wheeler manufractures can manufracture 600cc+ bikes but cannot manufc helicopters like Cheetah, Chetak, Jets like LCA, MCA and Yachts that are owned by Vijay Mallya.Originally posted by svjhonda View Post1 of my dad's friends said we can fight for a rule change in court... Like we can show them luxury items like private helicopters, jets, yachts and stuff attract just 40-50% import duty. So why should superbikes which are treated as luxury vehicles attract 120% duty?
He said something about the procedure, of which I managed to grab nothing.... Anybody found in legal matters might be able to help. Can we as consumers submit a petition/request for a rule change (not drastic, we can decide the parameters), and if need be, solve the matter in a court?
May be in coming 10years we can see a 500cc bikes from the indian guys. My hopes on TVS.

Used 600rr?
I myself am interested in buying a SBK in the next couple o years. The largest capacity bike I've ridden is the P220 and honestly I still dont have d skills to ride a 600,let alone a litre class beast. So I was thinkin about getting myself acquainted with a 600 first and then gradually moving on. Considering those the 600rr appeals to me a lot. Perfect blend of useful power and practicality.
If I've to buy a used one, what legal precautions should I be taking? Also, what points do I keep in mind while inspecting the bike regarding its wear and tear?
Thanks in advanceI have learnt my ABCs*.Have you??

Re: Used 600rr?
Hi Guys,
This thread was last updated in 2009. Any better news regarding trying to buy a brand new or a grey market CBR600rr or the FZ6r even? Why are the 600 models not available in the supersports segments when litre class are being sold? Can we import a second hand?
Thanks for the support guys.

Yes, provided you've owned the vehicle for 2 (or 4 not sure) years abroad, even then I doubt if the 600cc can be imported.Originally posted by Vykier View PostCan we import a second hand?Skill is what keeps you on a Motorcycle

Re: Used 600rr?
Wow so 600 supersports have worse engine displacement to emission ratio than their litre class couterparts?Originally posted by aargee View PostStill the same s*** If 600cc is your criteria, needless to tell you about Ninja 650 & GT650R/N - Stricter emission norms
What about bikes like the Yamaha FZ6r, Kawasaki Versys, Suzuki Vstrom...? those are pretty much leaning more towards sports touring and definitely maintain stricter emission norms.
Triumph's about to enter the Indian market Nov 2013 but I guess its the reforms they talk about... Imagine having the Daytona 675 here with no competition from the CBR600rr or the Yamaha R6 or the Kawasaki ZX6R... pretty sure that if triumph has to enter the market with daytona, things will need to be reformed... the jap companies that have been invested all this while will go crazy at the blatant irregularities in policies.
Thanks for the helpful update aargee... love how you format your texts... something everyone will benefit from learning on this forum.

Re: Used 600rr?
Leave aside the grey ones, they are a hassle all the time. You'd worry more than actually ride one. Moreover, even if you import a 600cc you'd end up paying almost 80% of that of a litre class.Originally posted by Vykier View PostWhat about bikes like the Yamaha FZ6r, Kawasaki Versys, Suzuki Vstrom...? those are pretty much leaning more towards sports touring and definitely maintain stricter emission norms.
This guy exudes brilliance man. He's a senior rider of course with a lot of experience, but he's full of energy. I was shocked when I saw him for the first time during our ISG2G pre ride last year. He looks like a boy. Thanks for the helpful update aargee... love how you format your texts... something everyone will benefit from learning on this forum.

He's one of those guys you can depend upon for routes, he does his homework very well and he's quintessentially the CBR guru.Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

Re: Used 600rr?
Hi Guys
Few days back I happen to visit a second hand Super bike and sports bike dealer. I told him my budget is around 6 Lac Max so he gave me some options on CBR600RR (2003) and GSX 600 Naked one, some old 1998 CBR1000 and a hyabusa old 2001 model. So I asked him are these bikes clean and street leagal he said it is absolutely clean and street leagal. And more than this he added that the bikes where imported before the law was enforced and you can still use them he said. Is that true?..
Since I dont know when this law was enforced I just nodded and came back. Can some of you throw some views on this and advice me whether we can actually take the risk of getting these bikes.A next door biker..

aarge sir i would like to make a correction about the statement of emmision normsOriginally posted by aargee View PostStill the same s*** If 600cc is your criteria, needless to tell you about Ninja 650 & GT650R/N

600 cc are not avaible because of the stricter emission norms ....
this statement is incorrect because 600 cc are available throught the world in countries having stricter emission norms than india like europe..got my point
the reason 600 cc are legally not available in india because as per the rules of the government of india
import of motorbikes below 800 cc is not permissible in india
a manufacturer can only sell a <800cc bike in india if it enters via the ckd (completely knocked down units)route in india
hence <800 cbu(completely built units) is illegal in india
AFAIK in case of scooters this condition varies from 150 -500 cc
any scooter within this range cannot be legally imported in india as cbu (completely built unit)..it has to be a ckd

I import the engine, chasis, fairing, electricals etc seperately and pay customs + other misc for the same. Then I get it assembled at Yamaha ASC. Further I get it registered through them. Does it make my R6 road legal?Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

i can give very little advice about this to you mate
but i remember a article which said.... that before 2005 when superbikes were not easily avaible in india the people would bring the bike in various parts like chassis etc as spares in india
spares only attract about 20%customs
and then used to get it assembled in india
wheres the bikes attracted nearly 110%customs (cbu)
this was done by people to avoid the taxes and thus they were classified as illegal imports.................
my point---
as per government u are importing spares and using them to build a complete bike which is incorrect ,as per regulations because if u import spares then u need to posses that vehicle which in first place was disallowed(illegal) by law...........got my point(afaik)
dont be disheartened but ...
here are a ludicrous no of loopholes in customs
sit down with r6 owners and ask them how they got it imported in india and registered for use
and aaarge sir's point regarding the import of ur owned vehicle import from abroad is correct....u can do that but lot of rules
many of the r6 i think have been imported in the same manner because as per govt rules manufacturer cannot legally sell <800 cc,cbu in india
and BTW i do think its pointless to own a r6 as of now because u will face infinite troubles regarding spares
NOTE- i have given the answer to ur questions to the best of my knowledge ,but do contact current owners and customs agents as they will be able to guide u way better then meLast edited by Technosid; 09-03-2013, 03:02 PM.
