import of motorbikes below 800 cc is not permissible in india
a manufacturer can only sell a <800cc bike in india if it enters via the ckd (completely knocked down units)route in india
hence <800 cbu(completely built units) is illegal in india
Right... I think I get it... Its really one of those things that need reforms in place. Its probably an inhibitor rule in order to encourage local capacities and factories... They really need to change this rule to a sub 500cc motorcycle... which Indian company has until now with all the sales and inhibitor rules favoring it has built bikes with engine capacities exceeding 500cc? So they're just inhibiting growth by blocking import of CBUs over 500cc while creating a null business area in the midsize segment which probably suits the country best as almost a premium segment which can drive quite a lot of sales I might think.

Easier import rules in the changing scenario of FDIs and what not going on... is it a probability by say 2014?

So Triumph (later when released) and Kawasaki source their bikes currently as CKD units? Both companies have a plant in Thailand with which India has a trade pact.

Anyway, thank you very much for clearing it out... think it makes more sense now.

Few days back I happen to visit a second hand Super bike and sports bike dealer. I told him my budget is around 6 Lac Max so he gave me some options on CBR600RR (2003) and GSX 600 Naked one, some old 1998 CBR1000 and a hyabusa old 2001 model.
I'd try getting a post 2003 CBR for that money... Not too sure, but I think you can get better. No? Correct me if i'm wrong pros.

R6 is one thing... thats a supersports... Yamaha ought to do a little better at least by giving us the FZ6r... now I know a lot of litre class SBKers will cringe at that but i'm sort of a practical kinda guy... Someone who likes that middle whack as much as the top whack and I find Yamaha achieve that balance so well on this machine... I mean its got a high rpm threshold while providing adequate grunt lower down in the rpm range due to a longer stroke, not many second hands of these available too. Kawasaki does this so well in India where they have a ZX6r which cannot be imported while they import the Ninja650r its sports touring brother... Just wishing Yamaha will tighten up the competition here a notch... Or maybe I just ought to go for the Triumph Daytona or the Tiger 800... now that I think i can live waiting for huh... sure a lot of people are in for the Street Triple and the Daytona. What's your opinion? everyone.

Cheers n peace all.
