I think Ducati in India have got an attitude which they need to work on...
its the same case all around the world
i have seen very few... (read very lucky few ) who didnt have to spend a lot on the bike routinely ( when i say expensive , its a relative term, varies from person to person ofcourse, but what i meant is compared to jap 600/750 )

specially te 748s and 749s were a pain in the Ar**

Now, if my medicine cabinet was loaded with pain-pills and I only rode it from time to time, then the Ducati is the obvious choice. All Ducatis are a lot like spoilt rich girls : beautiful to look at and fun to be with but just as unreliable and trustworthy.
Would rather blow my money on dating Paris Hilton I say !

P.S. This has been posted to irk KenCool and that is the sole intention of this post. Its a biased post ofc :P

what I wrote about the Ducs is my opinion indeed about them.
The disclaimer is just to make further arguments easier...I can just say 'I was joking' to get out of serious trouble if that disclaimer is in place :P

I rode the 1098S a few months back. Utter madness it is. It puts the T in Torque.
But the ridding position was so painful....and this coming from someone who rides an R6 has got to hold some weight.
10 mins into the ride my palms started aching. But the fact is, it dint bother me. I was riding a Duc. So much usable power and it hauls ass like none other.
            Feels effortless.
The 848 is pretty much the same in terms of riding position.
            So keep that in mind.
The Monster series riding position is relaxed. Both would make awesome street bikes. Its Naked vs SBK styling.
Your pic. Keep in mind maintenance and repair costs though.

IMO most of the stuff being written here about Ducatis in general is utter BS.

                      Here is my two valves.

If you are wanting to find a logical reason to buy a ducati, i don't think you should buy one.
A Ducati is not about torque curves, it is just about curves. Like some women you like from your balls and some from the head, this is by the balls and for the balls. I know that makes it sound a bit gay, but that is the way it is. You might not outrun a guy on a gixer or an R1, but then you are not buying it for them. you are buying for the kid who used to be furious if his mother even attempted to clean the poster of a 916 on his wall.

This is beauty my friend, sexy too, and there is no science to it for you to decide about it logically. Quit this forum, just think if you are smitten by it or not, and decide accordingly.

Good way to find out is to buy a jap inline, if over time you regret buying the inlines and feel depressed about letting go the girl of your dream, am assuming you did dream about it, you have got desmodromic valves in your heart.
Then sell your jappie inline and buy a duke. The japs anyways have a better resale value.

                        @forty6 Well said my friend.

A Duc is a motorcycle and then some more. Hand built...no wait....hand crafted. Mechanical cacophony at its best...and it bleeds passion.

Like forty6 said and like i have always said..."if it moves your soul....then go for it...Italian...Jap....or even Brit.....doesn't really matter as long as it moves your soul"
Dont ever get a bike and then look at someone else's bike and go...I WISH
