I had heard in a news channel that Ninja will be launched this year itself at a few selected Porbiking dealerships. And they also said that when Bajaj is gonna produce it it will be around 140-150k ex showroom.
Never upgrade without getting your basics RIGHT.

great to see this thread back. priced 2.16 lakh would be a good buy. but still, if its below 2 lacks(1,99,000!) would give a better feel...

It might suck on some features.... but then.... who else is giving us 6-7sec to 100kmph and a top whack of over 160kmph ???

Btw..... dont speculate on the features just now.... the 250R does come with a Fi too in some parts of the world currently... see this

Btw.... I personally still like the analog console.... and still most SBKs come with analog meters. Be happy that atleast the bike is a mini-SBK..... not like the R15 (no offence... but I think yamaha has cheated Indians bigtime... costing 1.1L for a 150cc m/c)

I am not speculating..... but as of what I've heard from PBK guys (I know they speculate everything).... the bike will be launched by dec08-jan09... and it'll be imported from Thiland... coz India-Thiland import treaty results in just 10% imports-increase on parts.... bajaj will assemble the parts except the engine which will be imported as it is.**

        **everything is speculated..... cant help.

I believe a pricing of 2lakh plus will make more sense and its justifiable to some extent seeing the over priced automobile culture in India ...

Not being offensive but also it will avoid the bike falling in hands of all tom ,dick and harry !

Looks like I offended someone on a very personal note from the tone of this reply.

I quote the word "legend" not just for the looks but for the machine that we Indians are going to get our hands on. Like I said, the Ninja would appeal "only" to the thirsty rider. You may recall the case of the RD350. People still can't tell an RD from an RX. But, it would be lame to opine that the RD is "not" a legend.

On a personal note, it's high time we look a step beyond the plain "looks" of the wheels (considering our personal experience of being cheated over and over again. the pulsar, the R15) etc.etc. In fact, the 250 in itself is a disgrace when we consider it to be the nex-gen bike while the 250 is actually a learner-bike abroad (similar to the M80s at the driving schools in india).

So, lets just wait and watch.

Everybody has choices in life, they have their opinions.... IMO the Pulsar, the R15 are not really cheats, infact they were/are the trend setters.... 250 is definitely not a disgrace to us considering the 'choice' that we have currently....

Imagine what Bajaj/TVS will have to do to beat the r15.... competition is healthy, choices are fine!

Well Well...250cc is a learner bike makes sense when you compare different markets, but branding companies trying to usher in some changes who dare to deliver products to the small group of people (performance segment) as cheats i my view isnt right.
We should be happy that BAL and Yamaha have tried to be trend setters by venturing into territories unknown. Evolution is a slow process and in a vast country like ours with varied demands it gets a little slower but something is better than nothing..
                      So Bajaj bring it onn!!..

PS: if you get a chnace to ride a R15 you would know they havent cheated us, its a very nice machine..but individual suitability does differ

No Offence to R-15 owners- a slight OT too-
When the bike is seen from front with a biker riding it, it feels like the rider is holding a big piece of cardboard and driving a puny... Bike is good in performance indeed, but the looks ..

Ninja passes both the tests.. at least gives a feel of "entry level" SBK ..

Looking forward to seeing and riding one in India!

                          PS: [Off Topic]
How long before manufacturers bring in something like the Kawasaki D-Tracker 250 (also manufactured in Thailand) or Yamaha WR-250X? These bikes are more way more suited for our riding conditions (& more fun) than all these wannabe SBK's.

Holy F***. These are ala those supermotos! No knobbly tires of dirt bikes, no attention seeking full fairing of SBKs. The best of both worlds, perfect compromises for the street! I thought there was only the Ducati Hypermotard, the KTM 950SM and maybe some other odd Japanese version of the same with a barely litre class engine, but this 250... awesome!

What is wrong with the international motorcycle manufacturers? First they assume we'd like to see only intra-city mile munchers that go like ice cream vans, then they throw at SBKs that not everyone can afford. Is it that tough for the marketing honchos to see the obvious? Get these 250s and maybe a couple of 600s. Dumb bums

PS: Will there be a lime green version of the D-Tracker like the Ninja 250?
