From all the posts, I percieve that R6s is a more "Road and Rider friendly" than the R6. Especially with 2007 R6, motorcycle.com complained about low end torque ... so this is yamaha's answer ...

Vivek/ Ken Cool/ anyone, please answer, how is it that 91 octane can still be used, whereas it's compression ratio is very high (12.4:1) ... ??? reply ...

This Yamaha's "answer" has been around for a number of years: 2001 Yamaha YZF-R6 specifications and pictures

As for the 2nd part of the question, I will answer in the appropriate thread.

'Regular' gas is 87 Octane, then you have kind of a 'Regular+' that's 89 Octane and 'Premium' is 91 Octane. This is what's available at 90% of the Gas stations that I've been to. Almost all US vehicles are standardized to take one of these.

AFAIK 91 Octane is good enough for all but the most exotic road-going vehicles. And in any case Yamaha recommends it for the R6S.

                  the godfather is here...

with a bike between your legs, you must be feeling 'really' belonging to xbhp for the first time, no?

Ha ha.. For the second time actually

See, when I had first joined there was a Car section on XBHP.. I still remember the tag line "Four Wheeled Monsters"
Then that got taken away and I was left homeless on XBHP.. But now I can stake a claim again.

Coz they are the same. R6 went more radical 06 onwards with a change in its bore and stroke and looks and suspension. The older version remained as the S.

You need more history, you can PM first synn. He will even tell you the person behind the changes.

What? No 97-98 octane fuel in the US?

You do get 97 octane, even 100 octane in some parts. It mostly is available in places closer to sea level.
