    WHOA!!!

You don't do things by half mesaures do you Guru

Fingers crossed for you man. Hope you get that Jawa.

If it comes to a choice as to which one to let go of, that'd be the Roadking. You may choose to cannibalise some parts off her before-hand though. Since you say its on a standard bore, its worth its weight in gold. Take that off her, find a used bore-piston (should be pretty easy to find a first-second oversize) and plonk it in instead.

Then keep your eye out for one of the early Roadkings - 79 - 81 or (if you get really really lucky) an Oilking. These are hard to find and are generally worth keeping for their collector's value. When (and considering your collection it would be 'when' rather than 'if') you do, just plonk in the bore and voila.

Have fun man. Someday, if I'm passing through Mumbai, I'd love to meet and gawp at your collection. Or hit me up when you come through Bangalore.

    Cheers

    Rahul

Rahul, my roadking IS in Bangalore so I am coming there shortly to pick her up and ride back to Mumbai.

I'm going to meet the owner of the '71 Jawa in a couple of hours...wish me luck!

Went and saw the bike. It is completely original and single-owner. Painted in a ghastly shade of green (even engine covers and all). Nothing that cannot be fixed...

          BUT..

Owner isn't willing to part with it "YET" He says he still enjoys riding it every evening to the club and back and I can't blame him...these bikes ARE fun to ride. Well I told him I'd wait and asked him if he would give it to me rather than to some high-bidder down the line and he said "Sleep in peace...if I decide to let it go then I have your number".

          Worth the wait...this bike.

Well yeah But in all honesty I may just put it in the back of my Gypsy, drive it up to Panvel and ride it home from there.

You guys are having gala times

I still remember my Dad used to own a 74 model Yezdi "TMS 4780" & had several memorable rides & I used to hold the throttle while my Dad sits behind when cruising. My Dad restored it to mint sometimes during 88 & we eventually had to sell it in 91.

I love Yezdi, but I hate for only one reason - the damn kick start!!! Its really a pain & still a nightmare to me.

              HAHAHA

There's a lil' trick to it to make it look easy but it takes some time getting used to pump-action rhythm. And if its a bike with a good standard bore you might get a few painful bruises on the shin before you learn your lesson :P

              @Guru

Too bad about the Jawa. I wouldn't hold my breath for it though. He'll ask you for a bomb IF he ever lets it go (some Jawas in mint condition are now trading for upwards of a lakh). Sounds sentimental about it so its very unlikely that he will even if he doesn't use it. Shop around. You'll find another I'm sure.

Now Rahul, I have to ask you...

You said that the bike to get RID of would be the Roadking. I am curious why you would suggest that considering that good Roadkings are still sought after. They are more powerful, faster, have a better gearbox, better electricals and what I think is the best looking tank of them all.

Now I am new to all this Ideal Extinction biking so I really want to know why the Roadking is the least desirable among the three bikes I had listed out

Bummer I couldn't swing the '71 into my garage but I'll keep trying...he is old and his wife hates the bike anyway.

Roadking's date with the RTO continues. They are faffing about with small details like Saree guard. I think it is downright thuggish of the RTO to remain stuck in the 60s with minor details like this. To top it off...I am still certifiably single and no child has come forward claiming me to be the father so WHY do I need a Saree guard? My cross-dressing days are over..I tell you!

Anyway - Once the paperwork is done I'll head down and collect my prize -OR- have it sent over by train after packing it EXTRA carefully. Somehow I don't trust the Lowland Gorillas the Indian railways employs so I might end up driving down in my Gypsy and bringing it home in the back. Aah...decisions!

                  Quick Update:

                  The Model B has lift-off!!

Opened up the block and got it lapped
Boiled the piston in brine to temper it
Cleaned the rings and dipped piston and rings in Motul 8002T to form a bonding layer with the metal
Installed everything back, started the bike and let it idle for an hour before taking it out for a test ride.

Running smoothly now without any siezures. Tested the bike from Ghatkopar to Majiwada (ghodbunder) and back with 2 mechanics to simulate my considerable weight They took the bike up to 90Kph without any issues.

After they returned I rode it back to Thane careful not to exceed 60Kph. So far so good...bike is running well. I'll drop it off at the garage tomorrow evening to open it up and re-align everything. I may need to change the swingarm bearings because I don't feel too stable on the bike. Something keeps shifting around (either the seat or the fact the alignment of front and rear wheels is a bit off).

Anyway - good news is the B is back on the road again and running nicely. I love the light clutch compared to the RD. The kick is annoying and I hurt my foot against the side-stand...so getting that removed. I also hate the new seat I bought so I am making another seat with the old seat pan with stiffer and wider shape.
