Cold weather is good friend of two stroke. you wont feel any problem in ride quality even if you do 200kms in a stretch. but if its hot outside, 15 20 mins stop is recommended in each 80 kms.
keep extra spark plug and cap in rainy season at it gets blow easily when moisture enters cap. and dont forget to cover tank with tank bag or by some other means to avoid water entering in tank.
these are the only problems i faced on weekend rides.

as many guys said, always have 20ml/ltr 2T premix even if oil pump is working.

only thing i am missing on long rides with RX is, Top End.
on highways, i always ride in range of 50-70. once i reach 70, or cross it, engine feels much stressed. mine GB is 4speed. would opting to 5speed GB will increase relaxed cruising speed?

I do non-stop 170Kms (Mysore to Bangalore - Home to Home) on my Stage3+ Modified RX135s at a cruising speed of 110~120Kmph & occasional burst to Full-Speedo reading. Till date i havn't experienced any major problems.

It all depends on how the engine is setup & (quality+quantity) of 2T oil use. And yes a 5-speed GB with correct sproketing will indeed help.

Nice to see that still people use Rx for touring. I have done quite a lot of trips in quite a short span of time including few 1000km+ trips.

My Rx was rebuilt in year 2010 Jan, and it was not a perfect quality build(financial constraints at that time). So i was pretty scared, to rely on this machine for touring, which is why i started this thread, to get some insight. I had my own set of issues with my bike during each trip, but none involving the engine, intake or transmission related issues. The worst issue i faced was just a CDI unit malfunctioning. It was my bike's setup due to which i was scared earlier It was a 5 speed model running on a - 4speed sleeved bore, 5speed head, 5speed gearbox, 5speed carb, 4speed chrome exhaust and always Premix.

I used to wonder, if my bike with a God Knows what Piston and a locally sleeved bore had been so reliable, how good the engines- NOS stock or which are Re bored perfectly in quality would perform in touring!

Anyway i had to shift to four Jokes(R15) to reduce the dent in my pocket arising from the fuel expenses of my RX. It gave a wonderful mileage of 20-25 in trips with stock setup!
But still i always miss my Rx in every trip i do. It is currently hibernating in Chennai(home) waiting for its day to Rev again for a trip.

RX is a bike which can take a lot of abuse. I was surprised to see that most of the parts were at the worst possible condition when the engine of bike was opened and never ever there was single incident of bike break down.
With the newly rebuild bike I am gaining confidence slowly as I clock more and more distance.
Even I would like to do a tour on my RX and planning to do one. After reading all these stories, this thread has definitely increased the confidence.

Me too a proud owner of an RX135-4 Speed 99 model, I've also started touring in my RX, love it very much either in Hills or ripping in Highways, its always a cool. Recently also done 650+ Kms in 2 days without any major issues except the chain slag (adjustment nut was worn out)

BTW dpak89, I'm also put up in coimbatore only, may be will catch up at sometime...
