The stock CDI can support 12000rpm easily. But not recommended to hit that all the time. Rings will get chewed

^power band lies from upwards of 6000rpm. Peaks at 8500. But frankly no point in revving a stock shogun to anywhere around 10000rpm. Its utter over-kill. Basically its a peaky bike, thanks to that built-in-chamber-type exhaust.
Best part is, the shaolin has smaller ports than the shogun. U raise the shaolin ports to shogun dimension, it will fly. The shaolin's ex port looks like the restrictor plate type port on the early RD LTs.
Basically TVS themselves reprofiled the shaolin ports and were to launch the 140cc. 16bhp, 5-speed shogun, rebadged as Suzuki Shadow. We have an example here.
However the bike was actually called Shaolin HP (high power)
        Those were the days

Yes it will fit. The Shogun,samurai,AX100 crank cases are the same. You can do all the possible mix and match, including the gearbox and magneto.

thats hot news to me joel!!..I will be taking up a friend's shogun for work very soon..was thinking i'd port a samurai barrel and try it out for fun. and pipe it the usual..eheh

Joel, does this imply that the crank is similar by any chance? Samurai conrods should be availible in the market

Crank is not the same. Stroke is 50mm on the shogun. Dont remember the samurai stroke off my head now.
U get loads of samurai cranks atleast.

Try getting a shogun barrel itself and work on it. The samurai has a very conservative port set-up. Inlet is really small. Transfer too are very small. U get a lot of options with the shogun piston (a few ART/TKR pistons) can work on it. If you are the right kind of 2-stroke addict, u can keep blowing a shogun for the next 5 yrs too. What spares, as long as u can get supply of pistons and rings u done. Keep a stock of some junked barrels too. Worst case u can resleeve.

WOW! Atul and Joel, whatever you are talking about it all seems like hebrew to me but I feel its all good. I would like to bring this Shogun to its stock condition and would like to keep it that way. I have sourced a cylinder and piston (standard), for now I will just keep them till the current one gives away completely. Let me post some pics of the bike when I acquired it back in August.

I replaced the stuffs like Cables, Chain and Chain's Sprocket, Bearings, Air Filter, Brake shoes and threw away the saree guard and the chain cover. The headlight has been replaced with a samurai type headlight. The bike's engine is unabused and is in pretty good shape. Good pickup, no twittering of the piston rings. It will be going a rebuilt (except the engine) and the main things that will be done are

Repainting of the chasis, nickeling of the rims.
                      Replacement of all spokes.
Replacement of Wiring harness and battery.
Replacement of Switchgears (Fierro switchgears? Not sure!)
                      Reconstuction of the seat.
Will be fitted with new fuel tank, side panels and tail pieces (sourced!)
                      Complete Silencer pipe replacement.
A minor repair of the speedometer.
                      Replacement of all locks.
Replacement of rear shocks (pshyco suggested Endurance)
Replacement of front shock springs (or the whole shocks?)
And replacement of a few nuts and bolts...

The bike now looks like this

1mm shogun os piston is fine. What crap is that logic of 0.5mm.

From what I heard, Only upto .50 is available. In which case, that logic makes good sense in an illogical sort of way
