  • How to convert Yamaha RXG to post 2000 Rx135?

Hi guys, i am new to this forum. To say everything in a nutshell, i own a Rxg 97 model. Now i want to convert it to a post 2000 rx 135.
Which parts should i change for the conversion?
Should i convert it to a 5 speed or a 4speed, please give an opinion about this, taking into consideration the availability of spares too.
Another nagging problem with my rxg is that it jerks all the time i decelarate the bike. What my local mechanic did to avoid this was too decrease the idling speed. The problem with it is that i have to keep reving the bike when i engage the clutch.
    Sorry guys so many questions!
Please i require your valuable informations!!

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

first of all welcome to xbhp family. It totaly depends on you and your budget about 4s or 5s.jerking problem is common in rxg model, thats why its problem was solved and it was rebadged as rx135.the problem was due to its lighter rotor.

So, does changing the cylinder and piston solve the problem? The series number on my cylinder is 4TL00.

He meant Magneto flywheel set or coil plate with magnet and NOT Cylinder kit.

Here rotor refers to crankshaft assembly.

I am waiting eagerly for the Rx experts to flow in some of their ideas and detailed script to convert a rx-g to rx135.

Thanks for starting the thread . Always thought , why rx-g didnt make an impression like rx135 did. I feel that i will get to know it from here as soon as the xbhpian experts log in.

It would be nice if anyone posts details of the parts to be replaced and other stuffs needed to convert a rxG to rx135 and an idea abt the total cost for this conversion.

Guys you'll need to understand that there are only few difference between RXG and RX135 4speed unless you want to go for 5 speed.

                To my knowledge:-

RXG came with 71 teeth clutch bell where as RXG is 74
RXG came with ignition which had problem hence RX135 came out.
RXG and RX135 both uses the same cylinder kit/Crankshaft assembly/gearbox
RXG came with sprocket 15/37T and RX135 came with 16/34T
I would suggest you start searching in this forum if you can find the information before opening the topic.

Go through the below link and understand RX.

last day i visited the YASS, the mechanic over there said to eliminate the jerking i have to change to the rx 135 clutch assembly. Is there any use in changing this?

why rx-g didnt make an impression like rx135 did because Rx135 was inroduced shortly after RXG came.

IIRC at late 1996 RXG rolled out. The predecessor RX 100 was much loved for power and sound (exhaust note).

RXG came with silient exhaust note made people to think it has less power(even though it has better) comapared to RX100.

secondly jerking and ignition problem which was sorted and rebadged as RX135 with eleveated Exhaust note and new graphics

                            As Sriram mentioned

so chanking the clutch bell along with primary drive gear make sense.
