Hi All,
Reviving this dead thread, as I couldn't contain myself. Got my hands on another set of Pricol RD350 meters.
They were on my mechanics Yezdi which was lockout at his friends place because he moved to the states. Finally he got the Yezdi out..and I literally unscrewed the RD meters from it..and told him to use the Fake Yenkay ones that I bought in Pune
Guess my Endura would now have genuine RD350 pricol meters!!

Re: RD350 - Restoration - Givng it a heart transplant
Reviving a very old thread. I'm going to go for a complete bike rebuild this time need your help with information on some parts.
I'm planning to buy some parts from HVCCycle and need your help in ordering the right parts.
1. Con Rods - They have two variants based on years (1970-72 & 73-75). Which one should I get?
Parts Catalog - Engine & Transnission - CrankShafts - HVCcycle
2. Con Rod Pins.
3. Crank Shaft -
Yamaha RD250 RD350 CrankShaft Assembly - HVCcycle
4. VM carbs - Which one should I go for ? They have sizes from VM26-VM36?
5. Piston Kits - Pro-X Piston Kit - HVCcycle
6. Cylinder Kit -
Regaring the cylinders that they provide. I had a conversation with them while I was in the US and it seems they also get them from China with their specification.
Considering the market is flooded with the cheap chinese copies, do you guys think is it a good idea?
As of now Cupid is running on Standard HT blocks (cost me a bomb), would their cylinders be worth it?
Anyone who has bought stuff from them replying would be great.
Cheers,

Re: RD350 - Restoration - Givng it a heart transplant
Hi,
Its been a long time since I have hardly written anything, however, since you have come up with a topic of complete rebuild, I though of suggesting something. Hope you may like it. We just restored a RD 350 in Kolkata and mine will be done after a couple of months. I would suggest you to rebuild the crank rather than buying new ones. Since in the forum I am not suppose to take names but all we did was rebuilt the crank and got Malaysian cylinders, belive me brother were are just amazed with the performance. The person who guided us was just amazing, of course he did charge us but the charges were acceptable. I keep reading about RD spares and I can tell you that these Chinese made cylinders are crap.
As far as cylinders made in China are concerned, i would say a strict no no. Please be specific with other spares that you are thinking to import, because US Rd's specifaction are totally different from Indian Rd's .
Everything is availbale in India for RD's, all u need is just the correct person. Till sometime ago there were many quacks selling spare for triple the price but I think there is someone who is providing spares at nominal rates. Now when Imean nominal that does not mean that he is charging for spares with the cost that was available 20 years back but as compared to today his charges are acceptable.
Once again i am not trying to hurt your sentiments, I am not trying to stop you from importing spares neither am I trying to promote someone, all i mean to say is spen your money wisely and do not get fooled.

Re: RD350 - Restoration - Givng it a heart transplant
Thank you deysandeep for this write-up and love your comment on the rip-offs roaming around.
My plan for the RD is to use it for just fun rides (Once or twice a month) on weekend trips. As of now the Duke 390 ( a nice fun machine) should suffice for the daily grind. The RD would only and only be used for the sheer pleasure of driving it!
There are two ways I can go about it ( I am more inclined for Scenario B as I think the RD deserves the special treatment).
So here it goes -
Scenario A - External beautification (Chrome Plating and minor tweaks). Would just need the 0.25mm pistons for this.
Parts Available - Got everything for nuts and bolts to an RD spare engine (crank, gear box, carbs etc...)
Outcome - A fully decked-up HT based on the Indian Specification.
Scenario B- Complete restore or rebuild as per US specification.
Parts Available -
1. US Spec Engine Heads - Got them with me.
2. US Spec Cylinders (Currently on 1mm oversize) that would require a bore.
3. Parts to be sourced locally - Pirelli Tyres , Amaron 9Amp Battery ( Need it for the HID) and Duke 200 / Yamaha FZ front end ( Need the brakes!!)
3. Parts needed for the planned re-build -
Air Filter - Yamaha RD250, RD350, R5, DS7 Air Filter, K&N YA0700 - HVCcycle
Manifold - Yamaha RD Intake manifold 345-13565-70-00 - HVCcycle
Reed Valves - Yamaha RD Reed Valve Assembly 345-13610-20-00 - HVCcycle
Rear Sprockets- Aluminum Rear Sprocket, RD250, RD350, R5, DS7, DS6, YR1, YR2, R3, RD350LC - HVCcycle
Con Rods - Connecting Rod Kit (34X) for RD 250/350 1973-1975 R5/ DS7 1970-1972 - HVCcycle
Front Sproc- Front Sprocket DS6, DS7,R5, RD250, RD350, YR1, YR2, YR3 - HVCcycle
Pistons - Pro-X Piston Kit - HVCcycle
Oil Seals - RD400/RD250/RD350 Oil Seal Kit - HVCcycle
Points - Yamaha DS7, RD250, R5, RD350 (70-75) Points - HVCcycle
Carbs (36mm) - Mikuni VM Round Slide Carbs - HVCcycle
Chain - Parts Unlimited O-Ring Chain, 520 and 530 - HVCcycle
Gasket Kit - Yamaha Complete Gasket Kit for RD350 73-75 & R5 70-72 , RD250 - HVCcycle
Clutch Springs - Yamaha Clutch Springs 90501-20123-00, 90501-20361-00 - HVCcycle
Clutch Plates - Yamaha RD, R5, DS7, RZ, YR, DT Clutch Friction plates, CK2240 - HVCcycle
Clutch Rod - Yamaha Clutch Push Rod. RD250, RD350, R5, DS7. 237-16357-01-00 - HVCcycle
The US exhausts is still something that I haven't set on my eyes yet. Not sure on this one right now. I have definitely dropped the idea for the crank as you have suggested (Yamdoot has suggested the same earlier).
Cheers,

Re: RD350 - Restoration - Givng it a heart transplant
Hi Just a few suggestion on the above parts list from my past experience.
air filter - K&N , good choice , you could also go for the UNI ( yellow in colour )
manifold - no need to import & pay such high price , there is no difference in quality , go to any local parts shop & ask for RX 100 manifold its the same buy 2 for the RD. Anyways you have to change the rubber manifold every 3 yrs.
REED Valves- no need to buy the whole assembly by paying huge price , simple solution again buy 2 RX 100 manifold from local shop , order Yamaha YZ 125 Reeds from HVC ,The YZF has 3 petals cut one petal then install them on your locally available RX 100 reed blocks .
sprockets - good choice
piston - good choice ( but inform HVC that this is for indian RD 350 B )
Connecting rod kit - keep 34 x a last choice go, for pro- X kit
points- I didnt like the quality they looked local Delhi made to me so avoid.
order the best oil seal kit & gasket kit .talk to him or discuss through email. I never got any clutch parts from him so I do know , also if you are ordering the sprocket kit & chain becarefull of the weight . US exhaust a good choice ,
If you are looking for local made replica exhaust & other local made parts , do let me know I do know a person.

A. They do sell the Boysean ones (just the reeds). Would that be a better idea?
B. Any idea where I could get the better points. ( Got a few sets way back in 2005 and they worked great). The ones locally available now, are worthless.
C. Exhausts that they sell are freaking expensive and local copies are not worth IMO. Do you think the stock Indian ones suffice?
