  • Adding spice to RX100! - An experiment !

After successful restoration of RX100 in 2012, riding occasionally with some authentic beat flowing through the pipe makes a big smile on my face. It is good to ride the stock bike, keeping it with some regular maintenance, the shine, shade, the glitter, that makes you feel better while at the signal stop.

For a long time, I've been bitten by RX115 bug ever since I read about that bike. Its spec was amazing. I truely call it pocket rocket which 115cc produces 15.5bhp.
After learning about the engine spec, thought why not I try to upgrade to 115cc. Got few leads from Singapore/Malaysia on 115cc barrel with head. Cost of vintage spares and shipping was close enough to bike another 2 stroke bike in India.
So I parked my 115 idea for the time owing credibility of transacting with strangers as I could even arrange funds.
Not long ago, when I came across another old time 2 stroker Joseph Mathew via social network site already tried experimenting reboring the RX100 old model bike with RX115 54mm piston.

That actually rekindle my thoughts to start once again. Thanks to Joseph Mathew Sir for lending RX115 piston for my experiment.
Thanks to Anuj Khurana, another bubbling 2 stroker, whom I met in New Delhi, gave one of RX100 cylinder kit for me to try out.
Now, I'm moving out for sometime from stock to a pepped up set up.

    Stage : - 1
Sandblasted the bore to renew the look of it.

    Stage : - 2
Traveled to Bangalore for reboring since I'm happy with my earlier job done with them. First, rebored the cylinder from already 52.00mm to 54.00mm. Cylinder head modded from 50.49mm to 55.00mm. There Xbhpian Vijay Daniel (Vijaymeyou), was all along with me while getting both cylinder and head mod job done. A big Thanks to him for his hospitality and time.

RX Cylinder and Head after the rebore job is done. Getting this stage completed gave me a good feeling and felt real progress.

Well, my initial plan was a complete make over to 115 spec (if not all incl. looks). But later thought let me keep this set up simple for now. Not that I don't want the extraaa cog in my gear box, but basically want to ride soon with this set up. One more thing is that, 'IF' this experiments blows out, I can go back to square one without much issues.

I don't want to buy another RX100 for experiment sake, so shall keep everything intact except the cylinder kit.

While I await for the weekend as I've planned to upgrade to 115, thought let me just plonk the disc set up as it was long due. Was able to get most of the parts for Gladiator disc brake set up. There were couple of things which I totally forgot is brake hose and axle wheel. Special Thanks to Vijay and Dinesh for filling me with some vital parts.

Finally was able swim across all odds to get the rebored cylinder plonked. Yes, its 54mm bore and 54mm modded head . Apart from that have also plonked Mikuni VM22ss carb to feed the right quantity of fuel or basically matching the RX115 spec. It was found that the piston clearance is kept tight that we had to literally push deliberately while it was fixed on to connecting rod. In a way its good that it don't create much bore or cylinder noise. The bike roared after couple of kicks and it sounded very different as if lion caught cold...I mean heavy. Due to tight clearance thought we leave the bike in idle for a day to bed the rings properly. Generates lot of heat so kind of leaving for some more time idling before I would take it off the stand. Found that the beat started to slowly settling down to music. With weather being very inconsistant, caught mild temperature. Still the other part is disc brake set up to be followed shortly. Thanks to Joseph Mathew, Anuj Khurana, Vijay Daniel for helping in making this project. I wanted to try and see how its going to be and its secondary to me if it is a success or failure.

                              Update:-

In a delicate situation where I missed to procure tiny ones....for the Gladiator disc brake set up. I cannot take my bike out as I have swapped almost all expect the below :-

                              1. dust seal cover for the hub (opposite side of the worm gear)
                              2. wheel distance colar
