    Shaolin rebuild

Atul instead of working on stock tranny why dont you go for a shaolin 5 speed unit, it rocks on the shogun trust me. I rod one and found to be much better than the stock tranny(but i think it was a shaolin engine case with a shogun block, dont know whether the engine case used are different, bot dont think so).

That will not help much, since the top gear, that is the fourth on the shogun and the fifth on the shaolin, both run on 0.954 ratio. The Shaolin eases itself into the ratios with one more gear since it does not have a powerband as drastic as the shogun.

The only possible advantage is the better progress through acceleration, but the shogun has a lot of grunt and that is precisely why Suzuki has put a taller (than shaolin) 2nd gear on it. Putting a Shaolin gearbox, in my opinion will only make it more docile.

Also, I have heard that changing the gears without the case causes a neutral finding issue, but I cannot say that for sure.

Please don't use top pro untill and unless your budegt is on downside.

Is it RX135 4 speed or RXZ 5 speed.
See which you can get there's hardly any difference between the two.

The RX 4-speed has a round venturi and the RX 5-speed has an oval carb. Both have a lot of difference when it comes to flowing. The 4-speed carb with a 5-speed barrel is the best combo.
And the difference is as visible as day and night.

Baah..Too tiring a day..Have been out for the last few days, parts hunting..Finally managed to get hold of the last set of parts I need [hopefully]

Here's a list of what I managed to get this time

A few sets of piston rings..Managed to get hold of a set for swingarm too

A spare 0.5mm SGP piston with rings

Original set of indicators [Fiem] found too

The old clutch bell was shot, The ears had deep grooves formed on them, and they had been filed to the limit..It was bad

                    and here's the new bell

I thought I'd couple that with a new clutch boss too..So an overall clutch replacement instead of a shitty overhaul

The old worn gears get new replacements ..The old ones looked something like this

                    And in came the replacements

Lucky for me I managed to get suzuki fork seals too..Hopefully way better than the local crap dished out here

Will start assembly tomorrow..Will keep you guys posted

                    Cheers

atul - which carburator upgrade is good for shogun and shaolin ?
Is it RX135 4 speed or RXZ 5 speed.
                      RXG round bore carb anyday

@ atul - i think tvs guys didnt release oversize pistons for shaolin, only std is avilable. few technicians use Toppro piston from yamaha vr 150(thailand). U shud be having experience . Can u explain in detail about using these oversizes.
pistons have hardly made any difference IMHO...Piston rings do matter..Good example is that I have an RXG that runs a shitty TKR piston with Yamaha Rings that takes all the abuse, crappy gas and crappy 2T oil i put into it..16,000 KMS so far and still strong at 155psi..Make sure you get your rebores right..Thats the make or break point of any build..Hope this helps

Atul - great project and thanks for reviving this awesome ringading.

Rongom is in for a shock when he rides the bike the way it was meant to be. Are you going to put some Motorhead pipes on it?
haha..thanks guru..well you're gonna be more than reviving the ringading vroom with your teezer..Im already jealous

yea rongm hasnt seen this thread I assume..Last I heard he messaged me from hongkong about how excited he was to start riding the bike again

Motorpipes? Yea mostly..It all depends if rongom wants this to be an everyday commuter [bugger is spoilt for choice with 2 RD's as it is] or a complete petrol drunkard :P I claim heavy mileage losses with my pipes \..lol

Thanks for your kind words atul, i am very much specific on picking what to do on the bike and what not to do, doing all the wrenching myself makes me tired like hell i am not used to it you see, now all the jetting issues sorted out my old man (referring to my rx) needs a separate thread will start it once i get a sigma, by the way i need those barrels which are there on your drag bike when are you gonna courier it to me better do it else will be flicked across.
good going pradeep..i see you're getting hooked to the DIY trip too..Join the gang..Yes do start a thread for your bike..should be a lot of help for other guys taking a similiar route for modding their RX's
My drag bike barrel goes with me to my grave.. I'm never giving it away ..hehe

hey man yea im based in andheri..My distributor is based in south mumbai and thats where I get all my stuff at..Top secret :P
Best of luck with your shaolin project..I see quite a few suzuki strokers coming up to give the RX boys a run for their 2T oil now :P...Good going

Another huge tip I got from one of my gurus..The shogun and shaolin liners are not fused to the bore..i.e, they can be extracted on a press. So all the shaolin guys can buy a std piston kit and make a similar/ better liner with the help of a portmap..Should be huge help for I see a lot of junk shaolin bores lying around in the junkyard

                            @ ATUL - @Joel - Thanx for information
Have u replaced full transmission or only 3rd gear
These days its hard to get primary gear driven with 51 teeth
Is it necessary to change intake manifold every time means during rebore.
@ atul - regarding clutch plates ? can u specify( u got from sgp or suzuki - zeus ?)
its good to see primary gear driven.
is it hta box with intake manifold ?

Sorry to hijack this thread again, but all these parts replacement makes me think (and worry!) - how long can the Shogun engine and transmission be expected to last (in moderate kinda use) without needing to open it and replace anything?

My Gun has done about 30,000 km in all these years. Engine/crankcase has never been opened... no engine parts have been replaced.

Can anybody make a rough estimate at least?

Which is the best oil for the gearbox? How often should it be changed? Do you recommend using fully synthetic oil in it?
