  • Impressive..

    I remember when I was very small (I think 7 or 8 yrs old) I travelled about 30-40 kms on this bike, which was my aunt's, with her brother from Vijayawada to Guntur. Right now it looks like these cities are not too far from each other but back then on a 50cc moped, it was. My aunt was furious as she was concerned, apart from our safety , about the bike's health having been ridden 'that far'. Makes me smile when I recollect that incident especially now.

    The figures are highly impressive. I did not know a pomped up XL50 can reach 105kmph. News to me. Amazing restoration job. I think you must spend a week or two,when you see that apt, to get it painted. I think the tiny rocket deserves it.

    can you update,the first post may be, with the summary of mods. I have gone thru the entire thread but being a less techie that I am it was little hard to keep track of em. Thanks

          Nice Idea and I would love to do it actually but I don't wont to lose the pedaling option. Such models are available for those who are into it!
          Also range is a bit of an issue with these motors heavily tuned for speed.
          Now guys what shall we name here?
          What type of name do you want?
          Classy: Go simple like "The Racer" or "The Ace" or something like that.
          Ironical: Would suite your bike better coz its puny but can trump bigger bikes so go with like "BiGGy" or "Daddy" or "Killer" something.
          But my favorite would be 50 kal or 50 cal(as for .50 caliber sniper bullet ) as it is in its name, i.e., TVS 50 XL, it suggest immense power and speed, total destruction of the enemy(a.k.a. competition) and its kinda hip and gangsta!
          Say what chaps?
          When in doubt...... Gas it!

            The similarity between air traffic controllers and pilots?
            If a pilot fuks it up, the pilot dies.
            If ATC fuks it up, the pilot dies. :D

            • btw excellent job on the restoration.. its like bringing the dead back from the grave and pimping it into an rx100 busting frankenstein.. the exhaust note ... sounds like a giant bee ... probably a bee on kryptonite

              so to suggest a name for this pocket rocket.. id call it "frankenstein" as it had an r.i.p note pasted over it .. only to be restored into a monster

                  "Wow, thats mad"

                  "Wow, that is quick. Very stripped down. Is that 50cc or a big bore".

                    • @All : thanks for the words of appreciation. The rocket does need a decent paint job, no denying that. But I am looking for the same paint shade(the factory colour), which is proving to be a problem. Any pointers to a painter whom you would recommend will be appreciated.

                      And btw, the bike no more employs a 50cc mill. But a 65-66ish displacement. Will give out the specs in some time....

                      This is how it evolved (in a nutshell)

                      50cc -> 40-42kmph
                      65cc -> 68-70kmph
                      New 65cc mill -> 105kmph(in 400 mtrs,tested). Expecting a 120kmph+ post run-in.

                      • Hi Guys,

                        Braking seems to be an issue now that the bike is making good speeds. So, here's what I intend to do.

                            • Hi guys,

                              Took the bike out today morning (couldnt resist riding it especially after my doc said that I could start riding bikes). My bro took it our for a spin first, yes in the neighbourhood. The sigma read a meagre 73kmph. Hopefully I would have better readings this afternoon.

                              Few pics & a vid http://ishare.rediff.com/video/Enter...L%2065/1072008

                              Cheers!
