The RD as per most hold the limelight of true performance. Well its a beauty of its own holds its respect, but can no ways be compared to the newer ones.
    Move on!

are we still talkin about India, because name 1 Indian bike that has more than 30bhp and can put a smile on your face everytime u ride it.[and please dont get into the superbike category cuz that doesnt fit many Indians budgets]

Very true Joel.. i do own an RD350 and i know that the newer bikes like R15s & Apaches will do better jobs than my RD. But for me, RD is a classic.. a timeless legend from a bye-gone era.. a reminiscent of the classic 70s.. an "Indian" predecessor of the legendary road-racing TZs.. and i do enjoy it in that way only..

well technology might have progressed but the RD 350 is no slouch either...yes it is 30 years old but it still has enough tech in it to atleast put our Indian made "sports bike" to shame...as joel says there is no point comparing an RD to the latest crop of super light 400s n 600s but heck as san put it I dont think any bike in India can hold a candle to the RD even today when it comes to preformance....Handling..maybe yeah, the newer crop of Indian bikes are better but man the two stroke ring-a-ding-ding is still the one thats putting a smile on a lot of faces..!!cheers

OMG!! the specs look like something out of a MotoGP bike, and you use it for daily use, you probably need to be very careful with the throttle, a careless twist can put you in the next state

However we can appreciate and love it as a classic. Its not sense to call it the performance king even today.
I wonder why only india is like this. Even to this day, many people swear by the bullet as being the most powerful bike. Heck, times have changed and today's modern household generators and water pumps produce more power than the bullets.

I can't fully agree with this Joel bhai... though u have much more knowledge in bikes than me... my question is which bike in INDIA can eaisly smoke RD in a drag... i don't think so coz i drove an RD 350 which is of my friends in 130km/hr... and stopped it coz i was afraid and even at that speed in 6th gear the bike was begging, roaring for more... so pls don't simply put that bike in such a category...

even the technology was much more developed and all i agree---in india a good maintained RD350 is definitely the king(now)...

Hey folks, I was taking a trip down memory lane and found this thread again. Surprised its still here after all these years to be honest, so i thought I'd drop in and post a note. Somebody from my time may still be around and read it. I posted this thread on this date 21 years ago, back when I was young and quite reckless - much has changed since then, and well, maybe I'm a little less reckless now. So lets see, how does one summarize 21 years? That's a long time but I'll give it a shot. Since my last post I went on to race on track professionally for a number of years in different categories, and was even a National champion at one point. Got rid of my famous RD many years ago shortly after I began track racing, so never quite fulfilled what i set out to do with it as posted in the thread. No regrets though, I did a lot with that bike. Owned a number of bikes from small to large capacity over the years. A CBR 600 F3, then a 1998 R1 were the big ones for a while but got to ride most of the modern big bikes at the race track during those years, so that was a fun experience. In the years after professional racing a friend and I started India's first motorcycle racing academy, Apex Racing and I was chief coach there for a few years. I eventually left the track scene (about a decade ago) and have not been active or involved with the school or racing since. Some of my students went on to become current National champions, which is cool. I now live a quiet life and have taken up wild life photography as my passion, you can find my work here -- https://facebook.com/people/Sameer-V...61578928071949.

I still ride a bit and currently own a 2024 model KTM Duke 390 which see's short but quick runs through the city occasionally - that part hasn't changed. That's about it - Now go out and live your lives to the fullest, life is short, so enjoy it before it passes you by. Cheers!
