Some dealers sell them at a premium and fools buy them considering its some pot of gold.
Only 10 k with sane riding??? Thats BAD!! Would hate to open up anything after just 10 k km. My gun has done just over 20,000 km... still going great guns with the original plates. Crankcase has never been opened. I was hoping i'd never need to open/change. My riding is more or less sane... no drags... only ocasional high speed highway runs (80 +/- 20 kmph). How long do you think my plates will last?

^I'm an ex-shaolin owner so have a clear track of the shaolin's trend. Owned a 1999 Shaolin and sold in 2005. The shaolin was lauched in Aug 1997 and the refreshed version with launched in oct 1999 with a new dash, gear indicators, fr plastic mudguard, ceriani front forks, new CDI and magneto, new grapghics/paint, a new Cat-con exhaust and a few other tweeks. The Shaolin was last produced till jan/feb 2000 along with the shogun. In Nov 1999, the Suzuki Fiero was launched and TVS considered it a replacement to the Shaolin and shogun.

Joel how wrong they were, thinking that the feiro cud do the same kind of rounds the lin n gun did. Anyway hoping to work on my engine soon. Time is just not permitting me. Besides my quest for adding another oldie to my garage is keeping my money in the savings account instead of getting it out there and letting me restore the shaolin completely.

But you wont believe what happened next.
The Fiero went ahead and thrashed the rally and motocross records of both the Shaolin and Shogun right from the year 2000. It was the MX and road racing champion untill 2006 and was later replaced by the upgraded Fiero aka RTR. In the expert class, the Fiero/RTR in the modified MX frames were faster around the track than the blown indian 2-strokes.

                lol hey man..

what are your priorites wrt restoring the bike?

                engine? body work?

will you be using it everyday? just once in a while?

body parts you'll get without much hassle.. engine parts are a ***** to find..

12k budget might be a bit less. so it looks like you'll have to restore it in parts.. i'd suggest start on the body and just search for mechanical parts (because they are really tough to find) pick them up the moment you find them.

                    Hello guys,

I started her up today after a few months gap and she started off in 2-3- kicks... but she revved up like crazy and it looks like the idling has gone up. I'm confused as to how this happened. The meter showed a constant 3k RPM on idle and i raced her upto 6 after which she died!

                    Help!

^^^ That sounds like clogged jets. Just give the carb a clean, and the air filter too.

Next time on, when you leave the bike idle for a while, please drain the fuel from the carb or from the tank too. And please dont start revving the bike as soon as you start it.
The problem is, when you keep the bike idle, the oil in the fuel settles down and gets very thick in the carb. It will make the mixture lean when you start the bike after a long time. The floats may get stuck too.

if anyone here has seen the Group B factory RTR, then they will be spell-bound. They thrashing the lap records set by the factory shaolin itself. 3 seconds faster per lap around MMSC.
