I am no expert and earnestly request the more informed members here to positively contribute to this thread.
Many of us desired to own an RX but could not when the bike was in production. While the rest of the world has moved on, the RX has come to a dead end.
Though I have zero technical knowledge, I would like to enlist few broad points to help you make a decision regarding buying an RX.
Prices & Finances
Being something fanciful it's prices are also like that
RX100, RX135 4 & 5 Speed & RXZ 4 & 5 Speed are the most popular ones. Approximate minimum price for running condition bike in Bengaluru:-RX100 - 10-12K
RX135 4S - 20-22k
RXZ 4S - 25-30k
Please note nothing is written on stone here. It possible to get one for cheaper or way costlier too. It depends upon the condition of the bike & frankly your urgency.
RX135 & RXZ 5 Speed are the most powerful of the lot and costliest too. Additionally, spares are most difficult to comeby. Don't be offended or shocked if somebody asks for Rs.50k for a 5Speeder.
RX100 spares are relatively easy to get hold of.
When you think of buying an RX, you should also budget for spare parts. Not only for the re-build but also for future use. You would need atleast Rs.12-15k (including cylinder kit, transmission related spares, chasis, etc)over and above rebuild costs for stocking up for the future. In all, you would need about Rs.40-Rs.50K for the entire project.
Ofcourse you can cut corners and reduce the budget too. I am taking A.S.C prices here.
Buying
A place like Bengaluru is over-priced and avoid buying it from here.
Be patient. Some of our members have waited for upto an year for the right bike. If you are looking for your first and only bike, this is not the one for you. Unless you want to tow the 'I have passion' line.
If you have any acquaintance in an Government office request them to put a word around in their office. Their papers are usually clean. However, bike would be abused by negligence.
If you have any aquaintance in private companies request them to post an advert in their internal message board.
Looking in smaller cities/towns if you have friends/family there will help you get a good deal.
Approach a dealer only as a last resort.
Finally, have a look at the efforts made by some of our members in buying & rebuilding RX.
