  • An Evening at Nabadwip burning-ghat...

It was one of those lazy Tuesday (20-july-2010) when I felt really bore and wanted to get out of the daily schedule. As the day before that some how some memories flashed in front of my eyes, a couple of year old memories about a nice and lonely place where once I spent an evening of mine.

Some times it happens that you start missing something so bad that you want to get that, no matter what and it was the case with me, as more the day progressed, more my heart wanted to go and check out if the place is still the same and still I can enjoy that beauty of it.

    The Nabadwip Burning-ghat

This burning ghat is considered to be a really holy place for the funeral and people from distance places travel with their dead to make sure a pleasant after life..

Secondly the atmosphere is some what super natural there.. As i remembered about the last time I was there, how the day light started to fade and it started to get lonely.. How those people cried for their loved one's right after the last view of his / her face, and off course in between the roar, you may fear the "Hera Krisna Hera Rama" from those Mayapur Foreign devotees who hires boats to do a circle from Mayapur Ghat to Nabadwip burning ghat and try to reduce the pain with their extraordinary "Hare Krisna Hare Rama", sung with their native (some time Brazilian or some time an African folk tune) tune and their native instrument.

An atmosphere which I cant explain by words, rather it has to be experienced and by 1 o-clock i made my mind up, I had to go.. That day it self..

    Initial little planning

My trust steed was no longer with me as I sold it off, hence I gave a call to one of my friend to see if I can manage a ride from him. It turned out, he is more interest than me to visit after hearing the reason to visit.

    Fuel up..

By 1.30 PM we are at our near by HP petrol pump for refueling purpose.

Although his manager was angry as clicking in petrol pump aint allowed but still against his managers will this "Kaka" allowed us to take the picture..

    Route Taken

    Nh34 - SH8..

NH34 till Krisanagar High Road then via SH8 to cross the river and take the local streets to reach the ghat..

    Journey

Unpredictability of NH34 always is a challenge for any rider.. but then again its some thing to enjoy..

Some wonderful but blind curves !!

and all of a sudden from out of no where, here comes the pot holes..

    Pit stop 1

Soon within 40 kms we get stop for first time for our launch ..

At NH34 BP Azad-Hind, we ordered chow-mien, thumbs up and some orkut

My pillion seemed to be exhausted after 40 kms of NH34.

    Continuing..

After some Lyaaad and launch, we started to complete the remaining stretch.. Beauty around and ahead us was truelly enjoyable with overcast sky

We found some good stretches, hence it allowed us to push the P180 UG4 to some higher RPMs.

But then again, NH34 always through some extreme challenges, one of which is to face the on coming four wheeler traffic where to them, two wheelers are invisible

As at speed of 70+ these two left no option for me, other than to shot between them.

Accidents are inhabitable and everyday occurrence.

So is the beauty around and above the road.

km by km, we get closer to our target as in SH8, the mile stone reads 1kms to go..

    Finally at the Barging ghat

The local streets were bit confusing but after for asking direction and after few lefts and rights, we finally reach our destination. Oddo read 110 kms

The evening was pleasant and scenery was almost exact what I saw couple of years ago. We sat there, and enjoyed our self.. and yeah, some orkutting also .

Local boys were pretty interested in orkut,

hence I had to stop try other things like bit of photography and photo shoot.

the clock ticked and the day light dropped so were the number of people too. The place started to get deserted and the atmosphere became some what spooky. My pillion was pushing me to leave, though I encouraged him but i knew in my self that me too were filling bit shaky.

Finally at around 7 we decided to call it and day and head back home.

    Return ride

we didnt face any heavy duty traffic as in noon hours while we came, but evening hours in NH34 (towards Kolkata) was like hell to go against heavy duty north bengal bound rocket traffic (those state owned and private long distance bus heading towards north bengal).

The stock 35/35 light of P180 UG4 was the worst I ever found in any bike and that was no match for those incoming 4 or 6 130/110w lights of those buses who didnt care even if there was no place for me to get down to allow them to over take

We tried bit of photography but night hours and those incoming lights proved too big deal for my little compact cam to capture

later i asked my pillion to use the camera flash against those incoming heavy vehicles which are not (almost all of them) responding to my signals

However anyhow by 9.30 PM, we were able to complete the journey reach our place.
    Catch me @ Orkut..

Interesting ride. Visited what was once considered the "Oxford of Bengal"! You have no photos to show of the ghats however. I am not sure if they allow you to shoot there.

    Approved

On a side note, I would advise you to wear a little bit more of protective riding gear.
The Wheel was a great invention; Two Wheels with a Motor in between was even better!

They do, but may be it was a joy ride for us, but others were there with a big sorrow of losing one of their loved ones..

          Totally agree!

You need more than a shoe and a helmet. Believe me, you will be happy in case something happens.

I understand.. But I tried with some ridding gears, they felt really uncomfortable, and I found my self always losing focus from riding to those and hence I avoided.

But then again, I would certainly try my self to get used to those..

            Thanks..

                Nice log there!

I wonder why you wanted 'Orkut' & the laptop (adding to the luggage), when you had your friend for company.
I think the village folks were more amazed to see your laptop, than Orkut

The pleasure is when your rear wheel slides, and you bring it back; and when the front wheel lifts, you take your time bringing it back.

                      Small but cool trip log.

The pic of going tro the (little gap) between the Ambasador and Omni was great.

Wooo!! NH 34 ..ahh lot of memories!!

This is undoubtedly one of the worst NH's I have ever seen..any State Highway would beat it for width and safety!

I dont understand why no one gives a damn about widening this very important connector between north and south bengal...the night buses coming all the way from Siliguri are a real menace....
