  • [Photo Feature]: 3 days 1500 kms HYD-Kemmangundi-mulliyanagiri

one find day as i was surfing Xbhp as part of my office routine ... saw some superb pics of k'gundi, mulliyanagiri, budiyanagiri. At that moment i decided to show those places to my P150 which got very bored roaming in city.

"ni valla avuthundha, nuvvu ragalava" [telugu]

"Do you have the will and courage to do this" these were the words i said to my friend [ravi] when i asked him to join me and my friend shiva for the ride. He was utterly shocked to hear a trip of 1500 kms on bike , at last convinced him that we will break the journey and do it. He finally agreed , but i was not confident even then that he would finally turn up on that day. Now we were three guys in search of another rider who can share ravi's burden of long driving. almost convinced an RTRian but was not the kinda person who takes a bit of risk . So finally 3 guys 2 p150's were ready to burn the roads of
    AP & k'nataka.

    Trip route: HYD- Anantapur-penukonda-madakasira-sira-chik'lur.

Total days planned: 4 days [actual 3 days]

    Total distance : 1500+ kms

Trip plan: Start on 8th Sep morning 5 am reach anantapur by noon and then to chikmaglur by max 8 pm. If we are tired then we planned to halt at "SIRA" .

7th Sep evening: Called shiva to check any last minute surprises he was ready for it, then to my friend ravi asked him to come to my home for bike health check up , i had doubt on his p150 whether it can do it or not. How can a story be short of surprises, he came and gave me a shocker he decided to drop out. hoowa.. i knew something would happen like this, but he was
preparing for the army interviews . Then i called shiva and asked is it ok with him if only we both go as ravi dropped, he was ready to rock . Many friends suggested us not to go on bike they looked as we were commiting suicide , we thought lets show what we can do.

8th sep: Clutch engaged , tuk [its p150 ] first gear was on @ 8 am [late by 3 hrs].. zoom we had started our first long

ride of over 1500kms ... driving at sane speeds of 70-80 kmph reached kurnool @ 11:30 , then started to anantapur by 12 reached there by 2:30. Had our lunch headed towards penukonda , here we missed the turn towards madakasira by 3 kms, route towards madakasira was good smooth single line road can ride @ 70 kmph. Then as soon as we entered k'nataka roads started to show the true colors , hell lot of diff in the road quality. After madakasira went towards sira via ROLLA all single line roads . We reached Sira by 7 pm we were still charged up to reach chik'lur, but while having our dinner i thought why dont we stay here for night and start early morning to chik'lur as even if we start now we would any way have tob stay @ lodge and driving @ night in these roads is really inviting trouble. After our dinner walked till bus station enquiring about the route and road conditions with the KSRTC drivers, any how managed to get one telugu speaking KSRTC controller who told us that roads are good and you can even go in night no prob at all, but i was still not confident of the roads and decided to stay @ lodge. Fun part of travelling in these areas was we entered AP and K'taka several times here ,villages just side by side one will be in AP other will be in K'nataka dont know when we were in k'nataka and when in andhra. As we could read and speak telugu we did not had any problem in reading KM boards [telugu & kannada almost look similar] and talking to locals. Guys from north will face difficulties as people dont understand hindi and most of the KM boards are in kannada

9th Sep: Woke up in the morning started @ 6:30 am we again overshot abt 5 km ahead of the turn , roads are ok here with some bad areas stretching abt .5 -1 km . Staying night at SIRA proved good for us as there are many junctions which if driven in night would have been missed for sure [atleast byh us ] and the roads started showing their colors again. Some places doesnt even have any roads at all, any how reached SIRA by 10am , then we decided to head towards k'gundi instead of ckik'lur we went via birur-lingadahalli-{bad roads}-k'gundi. But looking at the very first sight of k'gundi hill we forgot our all pains ... man that was real beauty..we forgot to fuel our bike fearing abt our future without petrol we drove towards k'gundi , saw a petrol station filled up with some liquid then headed towards k'gundi. We started to feel the cool breeze, first stop @ kalathi giri falls took some snaps and started climbing. I must appreaciate that roads here they are lot better and we started njoying the scenery stopping at every possible corner. Reached k'gundi by 12:30 it started dizzling, straight away went to z-point climbed to the hill top. I must say this the most bueatyful sight i had ever seen in my life, we were in the midst of clouds , very very cool winds blowing here .We saw some deers gazing on hill top for them it was like heaven becoz of greenery every where.
Had our lunch and some walking here and there, started to wards hebbe falls . It started raining like cats and dogs, cant see more than few meters still we were driving to falls, i had little fear in my mind as i had to drive through looking for path holes and at the same time turn along the blind turns which were entirely covered by clouds.. guys this made us to stop some 5 kms after our journey we had to head back with out seeing hebbe falls as it started raining like anything and its a total off road kind of thing, Went back to the Y juntion from which we headed towards hebbe falls. Thinking the other will lead to chik'lur [57 kms], roads here are total messed up. We thought that it would take us around 3 1/2 hrs to reach chik'lur if we go by this way and we also feared of natures fury on us as i said it was raining like anything again back to k'gundi and asked local drivers for the route to chik'ur they advised us to go down and take right turn from the petrol bunk where we fuelled our bike . Roads from here to chik'lur are biker's paradise twists , truns, zig zags.... good roads. Reached chik'lur by 5:30 pm. I was really disappointed to miss hebbe falls.

After reaching chik'lur gave some work to stomach and throw our bags in the lodge , got re-freshed and went for local sight seeing. It is a good town with some good looking girls . Our lodge manager speaks english it was easy for us to communicate about the places. First thought of visiting kudremukh next day but later shifted to cover mulliyanagiri, baba budiyanagiri, dattapeeta. If we can cover them by 1 noon then thought of going to kudremukh for the rest of day.

10 sep: Started by 6:30 am had nice hot tea again we took wrong route for mulliyanagiri seems it has become our habbit now. Started towards mulliyanagiri roads are good here , again iot started raining and we can hardly see anything beyond few meters going slowly reached mulliyanagiri by 8:30 am. This journey was amazing as we were at a height of 6500 feet just a
glance at down side made us say "WOW" each time we saw it. When we reached to mulliyanagiri it was fully covered with thick cloud blanket and my god winds were blowing at very very high speeds, we were shivering bcoz of the cool climate. As we were climbing the steps it seemed as were going towards sky as we could see only few steps ahead of us beyond that it was white.
While comming back i lost my specs some where and it was difficult for me to see , i kept them inside my pocket as i was unable to see clearly becoz of mist on the galss, ahh there we found the specs resting on the steps lucky me it dint't went away with winds.

Started back after having some banana chips which we brought with us .It was fun eating chips @ 6500 feet . Started down , my friend shiva recieved a call which had some bad news for us , his uncle was ill and he needs to head back to HYD immediately. There it was an end to our journey we started back towards chik'lur had nice tiffin and decided to stick with atleast SH this time.

    Back route: chik'lur-javagal-devanur-tumkur-devanahalli-anantapur-hyd.

Route from chik'lur to javagal are good, but from here we thought of going to ariskere instead of devaur as it will cut short some distance. This route was real bad only can maintain 40 kmph here, it took us 1:30 hr to cross 50 kms stretch, then on to tumkur highway that gave us real relief zoomed at 70-80 kmph reached tumkur by 3:15 pm, had lunch then we made a blunder of a mistake again here. Instead of the earlier planned route via devanahalli listened to locals and took another route via

madhugiri-madakasira-penukonda-anantapur-hyd. Roads from tumkur to madakasira are real mess and from madakasira as soon as we entered AP it was a smooth afair i dont know is this the case with all the interior parts of k'nataka no offences here guys just wanna know. This bad stretch took 4:30 hrs plus a bonus of heavy rains on us. We reached anantapur by 9:30 pm had dinner and decided to rip hard now. Reached kurnool by 12:30 night , my friend asked me to drive know till hyd. He was really tired i was in much better condition , as soon as we travelled some 50 kms my frind started to sleep , i thought this will lead to some kind of trouble told him to take rest at bus stop . He instead just sat there for some time and told me to start after
15 mins as he feels much better now. Again the same thing repeats this time i had decided not to start untill he takes at least an 1 hr power nap. Stopped at some empty bus stop took all the lugguage from bike and i slept happily for an 1 hr but to my surprise my friend slept only 15 mins it was like WTF to me. it was already 4:20 am 100 kms away from hyd started slowly @ speeds of 50 shivering to the tunes of cool winds and the rains.

Ahh finally reached Hyd and my dear friend was still hanging in sleep, i gave a full blown pulsar horn for sometime he got out of his dreamy world in schock. Reached HYD by 6:15 am it was vinayaka chevithi and ramzan that day all are in news clothes, decorating their homes and we were two heros covered with mud and all other out of the world materials.

Ill for sure remember this trip for my life time as this is my first long drive. I am really thankfull to xbhpians ravi@17bhp,phanikar & steve who helped me to an extent by answering my queries before the start of the trip.

And lastly but not the least to one without whom this tour would not even be possible . Yes its my boy p150 , it performed like a charm all along the tour not even once complained of anything it showed what it is capable of . What ever command i pass it executed to its best. I bow to you my boy , THANK YOU .

    Some questions for the xbhpinas:

    1) While our upward journey i saw two RE's with 4 guys @ kurnool they looked to me as they were going for long trip [FULLY LOADED]. Did any one planned it from HYD.

    2) Also saw a group of bikers between tumkur and chik'lur while we were heading back on 10th sep around 2 pm , any xbhpians here.

    Learnings and Suggestions from tour:

    1) Take the route according to this priority : NHs then SHs then Interior routes. Always consider NHs & SHs over interior
roads even though you have to cover an extra 50-70 kms.

    2) Always take rest @ night [our back jouney was exceptional as my friend's uncle was ill]
    3) Take a detailed map of the place and routes.
    4) If possible take a 200cc+ bike with you that will help touring at 100+ speeds with ease.

    More pics to follow ........
