  • A saddlesore's Heartbroken story...

Right from the childhood like many of you dream, I always thought of doing something different adventurous, adrenaline which could satisfy my inner instints of being happy with my life. Vexed with my office life in a short span of time and having the money in doing one it prompted me to do something which I should have done long before.Going through all the saddlesore's success and attempts I thought to check whether if it could show me what I wanted in life.

I was waiting for the right time and finally fixed a randowm date as 5-march would be my saddlesore attempt.Hyderabad to be specific has bad roads scattered all over the borders so it would be dead impossible to have a safe and successful journey.I have done a Hyderbad-Pune few months back i.e on NH-9 and the roads were in pathetic conditions with road patch up still going on for ages .Similar are the conditons of Hyd-vizag with worst roads on the suryapet and traffic moves at snail's pace.I just love to do it on the NH-5 but I have to start from vizag to do the vizag-chennai-vizag 1600 ss.later I discovered that bangalore route is an absolute treat to ride on and the Hyd-bangy-Salem route poked me to do it as soon as possible.I would like to thank Pabi(xbhp member) for helping me in giving inputs about the road the earlier day .I told to myself that I will continue only after I get to bangalore on the right time.

Got my bike serviced(pulsar 150 UG3) at castrol zone, kothaguda and got the stuff required for the journey...

    Checklist:

    Bike papers

    1 ltr water
    1 ltr maaza
    biscuits
    glucose
    energy bars
    first aid kit
    spare hankies and spare cloth
    t-shirt
    torch
    spare clutch and accelarator cable
    castrol power1 oil
tyre tube as the front tyre was ageing to go off at any moment
IBA papers and necessary documents and road maps
bungee cords from adventure on the rocks

    And riding Gear:
    vega helmet
    Axo elbow and knee guards
    denim jeans and adidas jacket
    shoes
    leather gloves

I reached rethibowli indian Oil petrol pump at around 1.30am along with my friend as the witness and got signed the necessary forms and the card was swiped showing 2.16 am with odometer reading 39,143kms and then the journey started.Though familiar with the Airport road I got lost at the alam garh x road and was going to ramoji film cityroute.I asked the local people and came back and finally hit the NH-7.I was zooming past in triple digit speeds. My bike being a 2007 model and done around 39k kms was doing maximum 100-110 constantly. The road after the airpot became a single laned and the truck drivers were on high beam from the opposite direction.I put an extra 300 bucks leg guard light which came in handy during the night ride. The sign board showed kurnool about 100 kms more and I calculated to reach kurnool in 3 hrs maximum.MY bike headlight was not worthy and a sudden sharp turn made my throttle slow down and engine stopped working with a big loud sound.Damm!!! I thought this was it.My ride ended abruptly so soon.I cursed my bike for letting me down in the middle of highway with noone to help. After 2min I started my bike and wow It started gain.yeppie..I was on cloud 9 and started to cruise again . NH-7 is all straight road with less traffic during my ride and I passed kurnool and pulled over for the first petrol fill . I've made over 285kms in 3 and half hours.

You've averaged approx. 81 Kmph, that very good for an SS attempt. Please keep going. I hope the heartbreak was only temporary and you've successfully completed the ride.

                Second Log:

After topping up my fuel tank , I started again with lot of enthusiasm and determined to Complete bangalore in 7-8 hrs max.The Speedometer constantly on the 108 mark and was going only to a max of 110(completing 40k kms) when down slope unlike the 120 kmphr barrier in my early years rides.I finally reached outskirts of bangalore around 9.15 am in the morning and from there on the actual pain started.Though I had planned the route I had to take but I got lost in the morning city traffic and crossed Hebbal and perplexed which way I had to take .After a lot of enquiries with the traffic policeman and many watching me as a weirdo with all the gear , out of no where a guy came close to me,spoke in our native language telugu and told me to follow him ( ..i guess he noticed by my number plate). Finally After a lot of puffing and suffocating and wasting one hour there I managed to find the salem sign board toll gate. The roads were good and had moderate traffic.I stopped at a bajaj service center on the way as my bike was giving a different roaring sound from the engine. The Service guys said everything is fine and the sound is due to non stop driving till now.I bid them adieu and opened up my throttle ,crouched and hugged my bike like a racer does tearing the wind streamlines and I topped 120-122kmphr barrier and reached hosur petrol and got the time check and finally reached namakkal petrol bunk crossing salem with additional 50 kms.I've made a whopping 824kms one way by 1:00pm (10hrs 45min hrs precise).I sat by the petrol bunk, didnt feel any fatigue nor any body pains but had head strain due to the constant helmet usage on my head.I ate complan biscuits and mango juice and gulped water, washed my face and called my beloved friends for my status updates and started my return journey back after half an hour break.

Sad to see it wasn't but a commendable attempt that. You should always ensure that you are never in Bengaluru during the peak hours. Bengaluru-Salem is around 200 Kms. So, if you were in Bengaluru by 9:15 AM, according to your previous lap till Kurnool, you should've made it by 11:30 AM but you've reached after 1:00 PM, That's a delay of 2 hrs. Out of which, if I am not wrong, most of the time would've been wasted in the City. No worries. No fatigue or butt aches for half the journey is good enough. You can always make another attempt. Try starting off from Mehdipatnam at around 10:00 PM so that you can reach Bengaluru by early morning and then reach Salem in time for breakfast. You can be back again in Bengaluru by Lunch time and you'd not have much traffic.
How were the Roads from Kurnool to Bengaluru and then from Hosur to Salem?

I only wished you turned successfully!!! I'm sorry for what has happened. But then, now since you've mastered the route, I'm sure you'll complete it successfully in the next attempt. Remember, all those who completed their SS attempt successfully will have their own stories of one or more attempts. Only a few manage to complete successfully on first attempt.

Wish you good luck on your next attempt & I'm sure you'll be listed in IBA. Waiting to read more...

More then half of the journey in much less then half of the available time.. Dude, I couldn't see a reason as to why you couldn't complete the task apart from possible bike breakdown. Anyways as others pointed out, there is no chance you wouldn't complete the task next time you are up for it. Good luck for then.

PS: trying out SS on a 40 K kms old P150 is quiet commendable dude.. way to go

Guru...I did think of starting early but some personal problems refrained me and more over being an IT dominated city I thought of clear less traffic day on saturday but It was not what I thought of.Yes If I could master the Bangy traffic then completing SS within 20 odd hours would be piece of cake for me.All the roads were in Mint condition but bangalore city roads had some fly over construction going on.

                              Argee...
yep...But my case is little different.GooD Luck became my worst enemy and hence I had to quit abruptly

                              Mitz...
yep you gessed it right...next time I would go for is to get a bun burner as an additional gift to the SS. Thanx a lot mate!

                              Pabi..
I wished to tell you but being my first endurance ride I thought to take it serious only after I reach bangalore on the calculated time.
