          Day2:

When I woke up next day, I saw that the TV was still on. Oopss.. Thank God I dont have to pay electrciity bill here! After taking a shower, I went to a service station for a bike wash. After getting my bike sparkling again I went towards my college hostel . Its huge - second largest in the world, next only to one in China..

The place was the same, the Annas(Bhaiyyas) were the same, what had changed were the students. I got out meeting all of them after a while, and had a nice breakfast at the Kamath Circle. Theres a popular Krishna temple in Udupi, which I thought of visiting but after seeing the long queue there, I changed my plans and visited my college instead. There I met our IT department teachers, who were happy to see me. When I told them that I had come all the way from bangalore till here on a bike they were stumped! I met the director and put forward some suggestion from my side about the development of the Institute. After this I went for lunch in LC ( Little Chef ), which is one of most famous places in MIT (Manipal Institute of Technology). After lunch I felt slight backache, I guess due to all the driving. I retired to my hotel to take some rest.

When I got out again in the evening I went to End-point and visited the football and cricket stadium. It was in great condition, maintained in a very meticulous fashion. Now I sense that its actually Money-Pal and not Manipal . I tried my luck once again at the Krishna temple in Udupi, and this time was lucky to have darshan as the crowd was lesser. After darshan I felt like seeing the the sea and headed towards the beautiful Malpe-Sea beach. I spent some time in the evening around the shore and seeing the waves. It was calming.

After having my dinner I went back to the hotel and slept, so that i could leave early the next day for Bangalore...

Stay Tuned for Day3 ( final ) updates.

We are miles away from the routine.

Thanks a lot.. The sceneries were really mesmerizing.. There were few more which I was not able to take as stopping the bike and again taking out the camera was such a pain..

The last day ride back to bangalore will come up shortly.. More sceneries are awaiting there.

Hey great pics and nice log i too plan to ride to manipal (bramhavar actually) from bangalore on the 5th of may. i was planning to take the rout via shakleshpur. the route you have mentioned is entirely new to me, inspite of your feedback on the road conditions at mudgere being bad, is it worth taking it?

Did you pass through khalasa? if so how are the road conditions there?

Its better that you take route through shakleshpur. The road is very very nice and also the scenic beauty is good. Don't take the Mudegeri route. If you really want to have some pain in your a$$ then you can..

                          Day3: Back to Bangalore.

I began the return journey after an early shower at four in the morning. Packed the saddlebag, and was ready to rock the road once again. This time I took the Manipal-Mangalore-Bangalore highway and was cruising well above 100 in that route. Except for some diversions which reduced the speed, it was a thrilling stretch. After reching Mangalore, I took the Mangalore-Saklespur ( Shiradi Ghat ) route and was dumbfounded by the nice route. Nature was resplendant in all its hues along the route I was driving upon. Last time ( 4-5 years ago) when i went in a bus, it was not in the best of conditions. This time though was a pleasant change.

I stopped for breakfast before Saklespur. Plain dosa and curry was what I decided upon. I got chicken curry instead of the normal sambhar. Good for me! A sumptuous breakfast energised me and I resumed my journey through the ghats. I was going slow in the ghat because of the trailers as its never wise to overtake at sharp turns. Then I followed one Honda city driving at a good speed and the distance of around 60 kms wes covered in just 45-50 mins in the Ghat Region. Just leaning on the bike here was relaxing.

I reached Hassan around eleven and Iwas hungry. Scouting for some nice place to eat in I saw CCD and got down there to munch chicken biryani (didnt know that CCD provides this as well!) and drowned it all with some nice cold coffee. After a half an hour break I was cruising again, this time well around 90-100 on the highway to Kunigal and took the right turn towards Magadi. After reaching Magadi I had a butt break and thereafter took the nice road to Banerghatta and finally reached home safely.

No one realizes how beautiful it is to travel until he comes home and rests his head on his old, familiar pillow. I started to think that why I took this journey of well over a thousand kilometres. Was it for the route, was it to see Manipal once more, was it to catch up with old acquaintances or was it merely a break from daily monotony. As I was thinking all this the following lines crossed my mind which aptly summed up why I did what I did.

                          Route Taken : Manipal-Udupi-Mangalore-Shaklespur-Hassan-Kunigal-Magadi-Bangalore
                          Total Kms: 432 Km
                          Fuel : ~ 12 Litres
                          Food : 110( in CCD) + 40 Miscellaneous

                          ===============================

I travel not to go anywhere, but to go. I travel for travel's sake. The great affair is to move. ~ Robert Louis Stevenson.
