    Manali to sarchu

The next day was going to be a big one for all of us, even after going to bed early sleep evaded me coz the excitement of riding to LEH was much above anything else i could feel at that time. Still somehow managed to shut eye for a few hours and was up and ready for the bigggg day at 7am with all bags loaded and ready to ride. Decided to have breakfast before leaving Manali, took a quick halt and were thru with our breakfast and ready to roar.

The ride towards Rohtang was smooth as it was still early but there were a few taxis with tourists ready to explore Rohtang, we joined them too and started climbing the mountains enjoying the scenery along, soon the roads started getting worse with a lot of pot holes, heavy traffic and loads of slush on the roads, just before Rohtang pass, the upgoing traffic was halted for the Military Convoys to pass through and that gave a good chance for some pictures. The place soon started getting packed with more taxis and local transport vehicles joining in waiting to cross the Rohtang pass and soon it was choas as everyone wanted to reach first and on that small narrow road there was a huge traffic jam which took almost an hour to clear.

The roads were pathetic and filled with slush upto 10" for almost 5-7 kms and heavy traffic. Somehow managing the traffic, pushing, pulling our bikes out of slush and cursing our way out of the pass we finally were far ahead of the traffic and suddenly the roads change for good and the scenery too.

A few pics from the pass.

Btw, did you make your hotel reservations before you went or was it done after you reached there?

How was the cellphone reception on the whole trip?

Have a ton of questions to ask..but waiting for the rest of the trip log as many answers will be there
para-gliding is one thing everyone should try .. it surely did scare the shit out of me first but after a few mins was enjoying it to the fullest. All our hotels were booked by us after reaching the place and selecting according to our budget and choice.
Delhi to Manali-rohtang mostly all networks are available, Rohtang and above only BSNL Postpaid works and that too not through out but in a few places, Leh has BSNL, Airtel and aircel. No pre paid mobiles work anywhere after
      Manali.

        Rohtang and beyond

Reaching Rohtang was surely a pain and so we decided to skip spending time there and make it to our next destination as already we had lost a lot of time. With me leading, Kartik tanna, Piyush, moorthi and Kartiktup as the sweep we headed towards our next destination - Keylong (Tandi). The roads were broken with few good stretches in between but overall it was bad. This is where we had our first sighting of ICE, the mountain peaks were covered with ice which was slowly melting with the day's heat and forming small water crossing on the roads. Enjoying every view and spending time taking pictures and chatting was fun but no one had the least idea of the what was waiting for us in the evening, wasting time having fun sure did take its toll on us in the evening which i will describe in my next post. Till then a few pics from Rohtang.
