Boss the situation wasn't in my hand, I did manage to maintain my composure though. It was most shocking, I used to believe that I have seen it all, been through all, but such an incident was never expected. The next post will not have many pictures. I will conlude the entire trip this weekend though. Many thanks for all your support!Originally posted by abhijeet080808 View Post
+1, we have done some rides, not as long and as far though. Mr. X is a good rider and a human being, but god only knows what happened to him at that instance.Originally posted by n4speed View PostLast edited by GuRpReEt SiNgH; 08-16-2012, 06:37 PM.GuRpReEt SiNgH

May be he is not BUILT for such enduring tour. He was embarassed to say "I quit". So, he rather said "I don't want to go". Last week, one of the fellow xbhpian (Jatin, supposedly met you in karnal meet) told me about your spiti ride on mighty low GC Ninja. since, then i was curious to know/read about the type of complications, events that you must had confronted in this ride and i was surprised to know about the whole story, that u have described here, especially the "climax" part. Indeed a nice trip log there with some very good shots of the valley.
P.s: I wonder how you managed to carry that big military bag on your shoulders that too for long 1700kms with 70% riding on hills?
As i precisely remember that i got some real hard pain for 15-20 days post my trip to pune from delhi as i am carrying a small backpack on my shoulders. .BIKING ??? " A RELIGION "

All I can say was that it was childish of him to act in such a manner. No harm done, its just that I will have to make another attempt at Chandrataal.Originally posted by rx100.7050 View PostMay be he is not BUILT for such enduring tour. Thanks Brother, I will try and wrap up everything soon. I got stuck with the usual festival activities. Thanks for following this up.Originally posted by smoker n doper View Post^^ +1.

Ninja performed well, it did bottom out at some of the water crossings but no harm done. The backpack must have weighed around 15- 20 Kgs and had a support at the waist. We used to wear it like the waist belt at a GYM, so I guess it used to support the back. And the shoulder arms of the bag were kept so loose so that the bag would rest on the rear seat. Well it was not much of a help on the hills but in the plains, most of the weight used to be on the rear seat. It was also not easy driving down hill with so much weight on your shoulders/ back, but we got used to it.
Thank you all guys for following this travelogue, I will wrap this up asap, as I will start preparing for the big one next year "LEH".

Thanks bro, and you guys will have great fun on these bikes. The only problem is the hard saddle of Ninja. I have not yet concluded the log, hoping to do it before I start planning for the big one this year.Originally posted by psych0hans View PostAbsolutely fantastic travel log... He was feeling sad, dejected, inferior. Was ridiculously kiddish. Stupid, even. But was it right of you to have "completely severed all ties with him ever since"?
That childish call-center going 26 year old was feeling inferior or retard or whatever WE readers can never know unless YOU tell us. And YOU can never know unless you talk to him.
Sometimes all it takes is a phone call...and a heart.
P.S.: Needless to say those were some great clicks and a pleasant t'log.__________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ _______

Day 5 Contd.
Well guys, its been a long time and as a self made rule to complete the log and then start preparing for the next big one, I am back to complete this story.
Now I do not wish to write much about the ghastly feeling that crept over me after this incident, but all I want to share with you guys is that me and Mr. X will cross path again and obviously I will not even look at him. He simply ceases to exist for me and I will simply dismiss/ disregard his presence around me.
After Mr. X is gone I try to gather my thoughts and made up my mind to reach Gramphoo and if possible Manali by EOD. As Mr. X was quite confident that he will anyways reach Manali, I had it in my mind to do the same. I leave soon, heart broken, but spirit's still alive and reach the dhaba at Batal. Mr. X was surprisingly standing there taking to someone, 'uff', who the f**k cares. I bought a 500ml 'Coke', refilled my water bottle(s) and zoomed past before he could even think about coming near me. I didn't even enquire about the damned Chandrataal.
Now as the anger was not getting any outlet
, baby ninja had to bear the brunt. I was driving a track bike with track tyres on a river bed like any other motocross driver (thora phenka hai, catch kar lena, but you got the point right). It was quite cold and sun was on its way down and the road has its own twists and turns so that at some places you get the much needed beautiful sunshine and at other places the shadows of the mountain peaks. The entire drive is by the river side on a supposedly road that resembles the river bed with "n" number of river crossings thrown in between. After crossing one or may two river crossings and having cooled down a bit in that icy cold water I decided to look for a spot with enough sunshine to relax a bit before going ahead. This was a tactical move to relax, have water/ coke and see if Mr. X catches up with you or not and if he does then does he stop or simply carries on.....
to be contd...

Day 5 contd.
Well Mr. comes; Mr. X goes and I kept on enjoying whatever was left of the coke and sunshine, laughing my heart out that this is a good enough signal for me to simply ignore that nincompoop. Soon its time to move on, destination "Chhatru". In b/w there were numerous "nallahs" and I was destined to cross them all alone, testing my darling Ninja. She bottomed out more often than not my like me never gave up, never stalled, never went down. One particular water crossing scared me and I was unsure about crossing the same on my own lest if I need help then there would no one to turn to. But like a saviour a guy turns up riding an off-road motorcycle with a "phirang" as pillion. As he approached the water crossing and me, I observed very carefully to find out the depth of the water and try to ascertain the best possible path for crossing the same. When they crossed the same and approached me to enquire about the route ahead (towards Batal) I had already prepared the relevant questions to be asked about this quite big and dangerous looking water crossing. This guys parks his ride, the gori climbs down the same, looks at my bike (both) and had a wry smile on their face. I could imagine what was going on in their minds. Kawasaki Ninja (fully faired) on such a terrain and this guy all alone WTF. They simply dismissed that it will be quite difficult for me to cross the same on this bike. And I requested them to stay and watch me, lest I need their help, till I crossover to the other side of this menace. They agreed, I prayed, started my darling, put it in first gear and took the plunge. It wasn't easy but somehow I manage to crossover without help, gave them thumbs up and continued towards "Chhatru". Even now I get goosebumps thinking about that incident. As I approached "Chhatru, I saw Mr. X standing by the side of the road talking to some guy (local). My blood boiled, seeing him, I was planning to stop and seek some help about the route ahead, buy some stuff (to eat/ drink) and as I approached Mr. X I simply twisted the throttle and my darling roared ahead creating enough ruckus for everyone to turn around and stare and Mr. X also didn't help by shouting "yahi par ruk jao, aage nahin jaa sakoge", and this enraged me more and I ended up smoking my way out of "Chhatru" crossed a bridge and moved over to the left over the river and started a small climb on a hill. Soon I saw a taxi approaching me from the other side and I signaled him to stop. Upon inquiring he told me that though there are quite a lot of water crossing on the way but he has seen a group of bikers crossing them so its upon me to decide what to do. He also needed some help/ directions about what to do as he was headed towards "Kaza". He wished me luck, I did the same and we moved on. I again do not remember the number of water crossing that I encountered before reaching "Gramphoo" but all I can say is that I really believed in what I was doing and may be, may be, may be, even if 5%, may be god was on my side and I reached "Gramphoo" safe and sound with natural light almost gone.
Phew, what a day I had? I was all wet, cold, hungry, adrenaline pumping, approached a local for help and he guided me towards a shack being managed by a Nepali fellow, who was amazed to see my bike and me all alone. He ensured me not once or twice but many times that my bike is absolutely safe, parked by the road (highway) side.
He guided me into his shack and as I prepared to change into dry clothes, he prepared tea. Soon there were enough locals in his shack, drinking desi liquor, playing cards (read gambling) and finally finishing their dinner. The owner, Nepali, was quite amused to hear my tale and showed me pictures on his mobile for his family's trip to "Chandrataal". He assured me that its quite safe here and said that he's the 'Police' over here.
When all the locals were gone he invited me over to his brother in law's shack where his sister had prepared the special family dinner. They opened 'angrezi daru', almost forced me to drink, but I stood my ground against it, had a sumptuous dinner and then we both came back to his shack to zzzzzz. I still remember his final words before I slept, "saabji, aapka dost jab subah yaha se guzrega toh aapki bike sadak par khari dekh kar zaroor rukega aur aap dono tab sulah kar lena". Even though I was quite annoyed with that bugger (Mr. X) still I hoped that this Nepali fellow's wish should come true.
END OF DAY 5 (finally

Day 6
Another day in paradise, well it was paradise till you reach Rohtang.
Got up early around 6- 6:30 as the shack owner started moving around/ started his day making the usual noises. Asked him how to freshen up, quick came the reply, anywhere I like, suggesting towards the open mountains. As I have never been there in such a situation before, I only ventured out and decided to move on with the journey without the usual morning stuff.
I came back from my morning stroll, started packing, the shack owner made some tea. I hesitatingly (kahi jaana na pad jaye) had it, packed my stuff and was getting ready to move on. The shack owner reminded me to take it easy and wait for Mr. X. As soon as he said it, I heard the familiar sound of his bult and looked outside; it was Mr. X going past my shack. This angered me further and I conveyed the same to the shack owner, thanked him and left. Climb up to Rohtang was slow, with a 'nullah' thrown in b/w; thankfully the intensity of water was manageable. Before I reached Rohtang, I did manage to cross Mr. X (who was busy smoking and was probably taking a butt break.) for the final time. Rohtang was a royal mess, people everywhere, trucks, pickups, cars, 4x4's, water mixed with a lot of mud. In my 2010 trip (with family) to Manali for the first time, I came to know that 'Rohtang' in a local language means 'pile of dead bodies'. I was alone, on a track bike at Rohtang when it was at its worst. As expected, I got stuck, was careful towards the clutch usage, somehow manage to save myself from going off the cliff, yes, it all happened over there. Somewhere in one of the threads I had read that one should wait for a heavy vehicle to pass and then try to ride on the tyre trail of the same. As traffic wasn't moving, I tried my best to ride, push, on the existing tyre trails. This was a long and painful task but somehow I manage to reach 'Marhi' on my own. Had a small breakfast (as I was still concerned about the nature's call) at one of the dhaba, had tea as it started raining/ drizzling. I cleaned up as I was in knee deep mud while pushing my bike. As it started/ threatened to get heavy, I decided to move on lest I get stuck over there for long. The ride till Manali was uneventful, except the fact that I now had mobile signal and soon I got a call from an unlisted number. It was Mr. X's mom and was concerned about him. I told her everything is fine and he few minutes behind and promised her to pass on her message to Mr. X. I texted Mr. X about this and moved on.
While driving, I was making plans to stop at a resort/ hotel for breakfast and use their restrooms to freshen up. But as I was comfortable driving on beautiful tarmac I kept on riding. It was an unevenful ride till Chandigarh, except for few stops due to heavy rain. As a result I reached Chandigarh at 8:00 and decided against pushing myself towards Delhi. Instead, I manage to get an air conditioned room to pamper myself.
Few clicks (I phone clicks, did not feel like using Mr. X's camera) from the day:-
