    Prologue

It is a long weekend(13th - 15th August) a gift for Tourers, this was in back of my mind from a long long time and I have planned to do a 4day ride to somewhere or anywhere. Discussed this with the Official Explorer of Hyd xBhp (ravi@17bhp) he pointed me towards pabi.. a veteran tourer who had similar plans so contacted him and agreed to follow him anywhere he leads me. We met on a week before the ride and finalised on the plan and familiarised with each other over a breakfast...

    The Actual Plan

    DAY 1: HYDERABAD>ANATAPUR 360kms
    DAY 2: ANATAPUR>HASSAN>BELURU&HALEBEEDU>CHIKMAGALURU 370kms
    DAY 3: CHIKMAGALURU>KUDEREMUKH>CHIKMAGALURU 250kms
    DAY 4: CHIKMAGALURU>MULAYANGIRI>KEMMANAGUNDI>SHIMOGA>HARI HAR ~300kms
    DAY 5: HARIHAR>HOSPETA>RAICHUR>HYDERABAD 530KMS

    Preperations & Last day Updates

As for any tour requires we made all the arrangments bike service & tools, maps blah blah blah.....
Luckily we have 2 more member joining in the ride Vishnu(already Leh'ed) & Siva(non-xbhpian).

    Finally The Riders & Steeds:
Vishnu (The Expert) xBhp id: vishnuu x = RTR160
Pavan (The Financier) xBhp id: pabi.. x = ZMA-R 1/2
Rakesh (The 1st Timer) xBhp id: rakesh_zmr x = ZMR
    Siva (The Hard Hitter) xbhp id: ~ x = ZMA-R 1/2.

    The Tour

    DAY 1:

As per the Plan we are to meet on the city outskirts by 5.30pm in the evening and reach Anatapur which is 360kms away before 10.30pm as the ride is on NH7, we thought the target is a piece of Cake. As vishnu has to take care of last minute work at office he asked us to proceed as per the plan and he will be catching up with us in an hour or two. So Me, Pavan along with Siva started around 5.40pm from the meetpoint and cruised along the highway @ relatively slow speeds for such a good road. We had our 1st stop @ a dhaba exactly 100kms away from the city and this is where pavan revelead the secret behind the speeds after a chai(tea) @ this dhaba they switch on the touring mode on every ride. We had sent a text to vishnu updating our location and also vishnu did the same. After the mode switch the speeds went up to 100kays. This time Siva is riding Pavan sitting as a pillion got bored and started cliking pictures without deviating Me or Siva though.

Meanwhile we reached outskirts of Kurnool some 200kms away from our start point it is getting dark, it started to rain and the crosswinds are bombastic, (atleast to my ZMR) so we took shelter in a filling station & where as experienced by anyother tourer in our forum we got strange alien kind stares, once again we updated our location to vishnu, to my surprise he is only 30kms behind us and he joined us within 15mins. so once again we started the ride (which I realised later in the tour is a very short distance~remember I am a 1st timer). As Vishnu joined us we have used bungee cords to tie up the backpacks to the bike with his help. And as I am about to say dinner Vishnu & Pavan told let us start and reach Anatapur as early as possbile and so we did start once Vishnu joined us the ride felt more exciting atleast to me. Vishnu leading & Me sweeping without further breaks & rain we reached Anathapur somewhere as per the plan. Here we booked a hotel room then went to a dhaba for dinner (I am starving at this point) and like a gourmet ate anything placed before me in a jiffy finally we finshed dinner to my satisfaction went to the room which turned ice cold by the timer we are back. We discussed for sometime on the route to take for the next day and slept. Me with a tinge of excitment.

    To be Continued...

PS: Pictures will be uploaded shortly.

Day 2: Technology, Crosswinds, Bad Roads, Worse Roads, the Best Roads & Hunting.

All of us woke-up around 6.30am, once again picked up the discussion what route to take to reach Chikmagalur, considered touching Lepakshi, Hassan, Beluru, Halebeedu then to the Destination Chikmagalur. This time Instead of planning with just words the gadgets & technology were used, Google & Maps of India are searched for all the possible combination of routes to reach Chikmagalur. Finally after some 30mins of speculations it was decided that most plausible one will be Anatapur>Penokonda>Madakasira>Sira>Nitturu>Hassan> Beluru&Halebeedu>Chikmagalur. Here the major focus for the group is to drive between Hassan & Belur as the route is said to be very scenic & of high standard.
The group started from Anathapur around 8.00am, as I am a newbie to rides it took me forever to load up the saddle bags & gear up, this is how I ended up as a Sweeper for the group. We crossed the city and came to NH7 where I stopped to adjust my gloves & face mask. I signaled Vishnu to carry on. Once on the highway the crosswinds have hit me like a Hammer, I have to crouch low and lean to my right to fend off the effect & at the same time I have to catch up with others as I am really afraid that I will miss a turn & be lost forever (really stupid) luckily I caught up with the group very soon and we are off the NH7 and entered into Penukonda village where we had our breakfast stop, here once again gadgets came into play, all of us shared our latitudes & Vishnu explained how to keep track of each other if lost behind or gone too forward, once again the route was explained to me with the help of maps as I am still paranoid about missing from the group somewhere! (I did not stop for taking pictures on this day just because of this fear).
Our next stop is Madakasira which is where we are going to cross AP-Karnataka border, we took a break here to for a couple of minutes and we are surrounded by eager & confused people as if they have seen something out of the world. We moved quickly from here, after of course Siva had a chai (BTW Siva is a Chai fan and he needs it almost every hour).
                        Bad & Worse Roads
Next we are destined to reach Sira, but to our dismay the road is in pretty bad shape for a round 30kms and this almost doubled our estimated time to reach here, @ Sira we have travelled on NH13 for a couple of kilometers but once again we have to take a diversion even before we have completely sighed our relief for the good roads from here to reach Nittur which is on NH206. We stopped at a Highway Dhaba near nittur for our lunch after a 40~50mins stop we once again started our ride and this time we are happy that the NH road is good but our happiness evaporated within 10kms of ride towards Hassan which is approximately 65kms as the roads are really in bad shapes and at places there are no roads at all, so we travelled at snail pace as the roads are really bad here and our speeds have dropped to all time low of 20-30kmph, everyone in the group looked tired & frustrated about the roads by the time we reached half the distance & stopped at a Railway Level Crossing, I tried to lift up the spirits by cracking some jokes but only in vain, we soothed ourselves onceagain reminding that we are doing this for reaching a great road between Hassan-Belur so after another painstakingly slow 30odd kilometers we have reached Hassan and it is nealy 5.00pm in the evening and we are almost certain that our plans are kaput (atleast me),

                        Best Roads
In Hassan we took a really small break and started towards belur which is only 45kms away but to our satisfaction as we expected the road is really of great quality. I have lunged forward on my steed and gone ahead of everyone, this time I am too tired & deprived of good roads to be paranoid about being lost, while cruising I found the road to be too scenic to ignore our cameras so I stopped at a really serene place and started clicking, after a couple of minutes Pavan also joined me once we are done with the pictures we started to belur once again and reached there but we realized it is getting dark and there is no use going to the temples, Pavan tried to persuade us but we are too tired because of the bad roads we have ridden earlier in the day, so we decided to visit the Yagachi Dam near belur and head to chikmagalur later, luckily we reached the dam before it was dark and spent time there till the moon rose lighting up the sky in a beautiful color.
                        Hunting for Accommodation & Dinner
Pavan has already been to Chikmagalur last year and so he directly took us to a lodge near bus stand, but being a long weekend and hotspot for many destinations all the rooms are full, we dumped all the luggage at one place and Myselves & Siva started hunting for the room, we ingeniously thought that farther the Hotel is from bus stand the better chance we have to find rooms and so we drove away from the bus stand, but our logic did not work all the rooms in all the lodges hotels & residencies are booked. So we started to track backwards fearing that we may not sleep in a room for this night! But luckily we have found rooms in decent enough lodge which we later came to know is listed no1 in Budget Accommodations. So we dumped our luggage in the rooms and headed for Dinner once again to our surprise almost all the hotels are out of eatables, so once again after hunting the roads we found a hotel, with South Indian Parathas but only one per head. We ate them and with semi full stomachs we once again started our hunt this time for food and completed our dinner went back to the room, this time no more discussion on the next day plans all are bone tired and slept immediately leaving all the plans to be made the next day!

                        The Fun Begins tomorrow!
