Day 4: White Mist, Green Grass & Blue Sky.

The habit of waking up early in the morning made me sit up in the bed a bit early after 3 days of riding. On this particular day all the riders are excited about that days ride. The simple reason is that the day is clear, the destination is in our sights from the moment we came out of our Hotel, and above all it is totally covered with silvery clouds, covered not above somewhere in the sky but right on top of the mountain as if the mountains had gone funky and had a new Hair Do!
We were a bit behind from our schedule as Pavan has to fix the punctured tyre, luckily the tyre has gone flat overnight when we are sleeping, but not when we are riding! This day is crucial for us in terms of punctuality we cannot afford to wander along the route like we did on Day 3. In order to be back home as per plan we have to cover as much as distance on this day and at the same time cover all the places en-route. Places’ being Mulahangiri, Kemmanagundi & Hebbe Water Falls and reach Harihar before it is too late! So on this day we have decided not stop anywhere as a group for photographs but stop at any place one likes while other will continue with the ride!
          White Mist
As we are going closer the cloud covered mountain curiosity took better of us to see how clouds will look from the inside and we seldom stopped! The route became narrower and twisty as we climbed uphill also each turn is concealed in the silver mist. By the time we reached the peak we are totally engulfed in between the clouds and we can hardly see 100mts. We had a hard time keeping our lens from getting moist. There is still something else we have to achieve at this place. A trek of about 0.5km to reach the highest peak! Once we reached the top everyone is jumping with joy. I am not exaggerating when I say “I forgot all my problems and lived only for that moment”. After having fun for sometime doing all types of photo shoots we realized about the target in front of us so we headed back and we decided to visit Greendale point which is a detour of about 6kms from our original route, after travelling for about some 2kms we realized we may miss our schedule and so we turned back and proceeded with our ride. Next stop Kemmanagundi!
          Green Grass
Sticking to our earlier plan we never stopped as a group at once place rather each of us stopped at different locations for pictures, this way we have save a lot of time. But after almost reaching Kemmanagundi at the view point where I reached 1st and realized that Vishnu is off course this I know because I have seen him going ahead of me when I stopped for pictures, hoping that there is no major deviation in the route that will take us far apart, I waited for Pavan (* where ever I mentioned Pavan note that I am referring to both Pavan & Siva, too lazy to type both the names ) to join me, mean while I am awestruck by the beauty of the place, the entire Mountains around me are covered only with grass but nothing else, there is grass everywhere, I have never encounters such natural phenomenon earlier, I only know that mountains are covered with forests! While I am enjoying the scenery later in about 15mins difference Pavan and to our relief Vishnu also joined us and explained that the detour is only about 6kms where it ended, this is where our fellow xBhpian has spotted him clicking J. Also I am really thankful to the driver who has allowed me to use his mobile phone to call Vishnu as none of our phones had the network coverage. Even after I have honked at him incessantly and overtook him in aggressive manner on the way up.
          The Trek
The ride towards Kemmanagundi is resumed and we rode at a really slow pace as there is nothing that is qualified to be called as a road from there only rocks and potholes everywhere. We are used to the bad rode with our experience on the earlier days and were not really bothered, By the time we have reached Kemmanagundi it is nearly 2.00 in the afternoon, we have speculated for nearly 30mins about our chance to visit both Hebbe Falls & Kemmanagundi, still make it to Harihar! Meanwhile we had lunch there, not much of a lunch but the time in which ate it gave the name lunch! So after talking to some of the Jeep drivers who can take us to Hebbe but still not finding anyone ready to take us, we decided to go on the trek to reach the Z-point @ Kemmanagundi, and decide about Hebbe on our return. The vehicles are to be parked our vehicles very far away from the point & a lot of *swearing happened because the road seemed fine even for cars to pass. But nearly 1km into the trek the route has become narrower, steeper, wetter and treacherous, I am naturally afraid of stairs or any form of climbing down due to my weight. And after 2kms of trek and when we are really on the EDGE I panicked to go forward, still taking support of some rocks, grass & Pavan’s encouraging words I managed to reach the Z-point a little later than others. To put in simple words the place is what one can call “Out of the World” We have spent most of our mid-afternoon there taking pictures and just sitting on the edges mesmerized by the view.
As mentioned the day is clear, Sky is blue, Grass is green and our souls Happy. A small chat & couple of advice on the route between there and Harihar with the local people who are having a merry time at the precipice, we started our trek back and this time a new route was chosen rather forced by me and Pavan and which required climbing up more and then climbing down, half the way into the ascent I have cursed my selves that I have decided to come in this route as it is really exhaustive, after nearly 3hrs of trekking we have once again reached our bikes and at this point after such a long trek and short time limits we have given up the idea of Hebbe Falls and proceeded to continue our journey to Harihar.
Back into the Plains from the Ghats
After our long climbing up earlier in the day, the climb down seemed really short and we are on the plains within no time, to our relief the roads are good this time till Shimoga,
We have taken a tea break in Tarikere where we have been interrogated by a Intelligence Cop, once confirming our identities he explained that there is some bike rally from Communist party as it is indeed Independence Day, the reason we are riding in the free country and also it brings a holiday! somewhere between Bhadravati & Harihar once again the roads went rouge and here the group is so tired they are least bothered about hitting the potholes, finally somewhere around 9.30 ~ 10.00 we have reached Harihar and checked into the 1st hotel we have laid eyes on, later had a dinner with cocktails went to sleep..

On the way to Harihar approximately 30kms before we have encountered a ghat, and as it is already dark we are unable to see how big it really is even though it seemed a small one, I have decided to come back there @ dawn the next day and see it my selves, I shared this idea with others and Pavan agreed to the possibility where as Vishnu and Siva decided that they prefer to sleep, that too after the hard ride we had this day. So they have made me and Pavan choose one room so that they need not be disturbed early in the morning.

          Day 5 Log Follows…..

A couple of hours before Day 5
Even though, bone tired due to all the riding on previous days. Mobile & thirst for more beauty helped me wake up @ 4.30 in the morning; after carefully completing my gearing up for the ride I tried to wake up Pavan, but he told me to carry on with my early morning expedition (may a big word for 60kms). I set off before the twilight so as, to catch up with the most beautiful time of any given day the Sunrise and also to be back in time not to spoil the ride plan back home for others.

                    Day 5

Vishnu gave advised us to drink more water as we will exhaust ourselves soon on the Plains than on Ghats,
Route we took is from Harihar > Gangawathi > Raichur > Jadcherla > Home.

The roads are good as explained by Vishnuu as he has traveled the route earlier. Our target is to cross the border nearly 300kms away and have lunch, so even though there are some interesting locations we refrained ourselves from stopping for a photo shoot, but after the first leg of our journey I had a doubt whether we can make it or not, still we kept riding hard by the time we crossed Gangawathi the time is already 1.00pm and still there is a long way to go as per our plan. Mean while Me and Vishnu stopped at a filling station in Sindhanur and somehow missed Pavan & Siva, they have gone ahead of us, we tried calling them and then sent a message to wait for us at Manvi which is before Raichur so that we can have Lunch as it is past 2.00pm in this confusion we have lost nearly 30mins. While we are waiting for them at Manvi they called us saying that they already gone ahead and are near to Raichur and will be waiting for us there, by the time we reached Raichur it is near to 3.00pm. After calculating the distance covered by us and the time took for us to cover it, we are astounded to see that the average speed is just 50kmph, even though we maintained a speed above between 90~80kmph the speed breakers before and after every small village dropped our average and the true colors of riding on a State Highway were revealed to me!

I reached home by 9.00pm so we rode for entire 12 hrs almost without any real breaks, by the time I am home both Pavan & Vishnu sent me a text saying that they are home.
With Complete Satisfaction I have slept that day and decided that I will continue to be a Biker forever.
                    Highlights of the trip:
                    1) The awesome beauty.
                    2) Keeping up with our plan never once spoiling the schedule.
                    3) No real rain that affected our ride.
                    4) No real sun that made us uncomfortable.
                    5) All the jokes along the way esp., with Siva, a real fun loving guy.
Things I noticed about my selves as a Rider:

Throughout the ride the only thing that kept me from going off the edge is the fact that I am far away from home and I need to get back in one piece!

@Vishnuu & Pabi: Please share your experiences also; this log may have told only about my experience.
