hey Hoodwind...thanks for the info. Do you have any confirmed members so far ? i know its too early to ask, but i think its better if any experienced biker, who has been to leh-ladakh before; can join the ride. Morever, dont you think that carrying the bike till chandigarh and then riding would save a lot of time, energy & money ofcourse. Riding all the way from mumbai till leh can be quite tiresome. we would be fully exausted even before we start the actual ride. I mean thats what i think, your views can vary..

I agree with you, an experienced member will be much better, and i am hoping someone joins, as of now i don't have any confirmed members for the trip.
June is long time from now, fingers crossed!!

Riding all the way or carrying the bike till Delhi/Chandigarh is totally a subjective matter.
      Different people, different views!!

You have some valid points in carrying the bike till Chandigarh, but as I said, its a subjective topic and I am more in favor of driving all the way.

There is another Leh tour being planned by Icemang :
      The Leh 2012 Planner
They are planning to carry their bikes till Jammu abd then ride from there.

Since you are favoring carrying the bike, i think you should have a look at above thread.

But if you do change your plan, and want to ride all the way then you are most welcome

        Ams

Acute Mountain Sickness(AMS) is often talked about on the trip to higher altitudes such as Leh.

I came across a very informative website regarding AMS and thought it is worth sharing.

I would suggest a small change in highlighted part -

Do Leh - Khardung La - Hunder - Diskit - Night Halt - Return to Leh next day.

Hunder has world's coldest desert and has two humped camels. You can also take in hot water springs in panamik.

NOTE: June 23rd and June 24th are Saturday & Sunday (Holidays) so we can extend the trip a day or two anywhere in the schedule if required due to emergency situations.

NOTE: Depending on the road status of the Manali-leh route at that time, we will have to take the srinagar-leh route from chandigarh.
Also we can have a day stay for rest at chandigarh if required.
Hey there, just a suggestion if you really wana do leh and dont want to set a benchmark of Mumbai - Leh - Mumbai then there are many + ve's to it...
You will save up on fuel, stay and fatigue.
You will save up on the maintenance cost of your bike.
No need to change oil on the way if you even do Delhi - Leh - Delhi.
More days in hand (according to your plan at least 7-8 days) so you get a Chance to explore more and to be more close to the nature. (as suggested by vishwas) ask nav75 regarding what more can be seen coz he is going there every year (crazy guy)...
There is more to it but i am lazy on writing them

To sum up all the above just ask yourself do you want to get lehd or you wana get lehd mum to mum?

                        After all it’s your choice...

And yea have a great trip ...

Thanks for the information regarding bike servicing.

I also want to know what was your total expense for your last trip to Leh in 2011.
Is there any one stop shop in mumbai where i can get most of the stuff required for the trip. Such as Saddle & Tank bags, Puncture Kit, etc
Don't service the bike until extreme need which will not happen as suggested by rachit and manish.

totally agree with you dude, we should have a short ride together before the Leh trip.
I have done a max of around 350 km in a day till now and I don't have any offroading exp.

Before any ride, I think we have to make ourself physically fit for the trip.(I need a lot of work out).
Currently I am in a bike transition phase, waiting for my new bike to be delivered.
We can have couple of short rides together somewhere in between March-April-May.
June is almost 5 months from now, so we have plenty of time for preparations.

                            Looking positively for 2nd June
