When did I say we were wondering in the Jungle? We were riding in jungle for some 15 kms as it was required to reach Sasan Gir. We did not stop anywhere in between although it would have been scary to see a Lion in front when we were riding.

Without helmet was only for a few meters for posing re baba. Both of us were geared completely

                      Coming to your questions now,
Open Jeep Safari costs between Rs.1600 - Rs.2000. This cost is for one jeep and not for one person. In one jeep maximum 6 tourists can go + 1 guide & 1 driver.

Since we were only 2 of us, we did not want to pay 2000 and hire one jeep. So we shared it with another family of 3. We paid 1000 in total for 2 of us.
In one time slot - only 30 jeeps are allowed to go. If it spills over then you would have to take the next slot.

Jeep Safari is for 150 minutes or 2 1/2 hours which is good enough time and if you are lucky you can see as much as 6-7 lions walking on the road in front of you! But its on luck.

Timings are 6:30 am then there is one at 10:00 am I think followed by an afternoon slot of around 1pm & then 3:30 pm also I think.
Best time to spot Lions and Leopards is said to be in early morning however its not confirmed you would see!

Day 3: Sasan Gir - Somnath - Porbandar - Dwarka

Day 3: Sasan Gir - Somnath - Porbandar - Dwarka
                                Distance: 275 kms

Woke up early morning, quickly got ready & moved straight to Sinh Sadan where all open jeep safari's permits and pass is collected.
We were given permit to see route no.5 which is said to have most chances of spotting lions. There are total 8 different routes in complete Gir Forest.
Ideally one has to pay 100rs. for carrying camera however our guide just told to hide camera and we did not pay any money for carrying camera.
Unfortunately could not spot any lions or leopards in the open jeep safari but saw the usual Deer, Sambhar, Peacock, wild boar, etc during the safari.
Overall the open jeep safari is worth spending the money.

Post our open jeep safari we left from Sasan Gir and then reached Somnath temple followed by Porbandar then finally reaching Dwarka.
This complete ride was coastal line route which was truly brilliant to ride and since I had a Pillion and I rarely stopped as the roads are so much fun to ride.

Did not see Bapu's ashram in Porbandar as first impression of Porbandar was not that impressive and I just left the place and headed to Dwarka. May be next time

Queue for getting permit for open jeep safari

Hanif bhai and our guide for the drive called Manoj. Both experienced and well mannered.

                                Choo cute

Managed to see few peacocks real close with Binoculars. It is good to carry one to have a real close look at wild animals.

Hanif bhai tried all his luck and communication with others if there are any lions to be spotted.

Forest officer who keeps tracks of lions by checking their footprints

She reminded me of the actress from Final Destination I and II

International tourists have to pay close $75 for a open jeep safari.

It's all about communication to try to give tourists a chance to spot the big cat. Hanif bhai trying to enquire again with another forest officer.

First glimpse of Sambhar during open jeep safari

                                Best Posers

                                Nilgiri Tree

Leopard Spotted here but unfortunately we did not find them

                                Wild Boar

                                Kingfisher

Veer Hamirji Gohil Monument at Veraval , Somnath Temple

Somnath Temple was known as the treasure trove of wealth and goodies, that were looted away by Muslim rulers. The Somnath Temple is home to one of the twelve 'Jyotirlingas', which is considered to be the most sacred lingas in the Hindu pantheon.

The Somnath Temple is an ideal example of the ancient Indian temple architecture.

According to legend, Soma, the moon God built the temple in gold, Ravan in silver, Krishna in wood and king Bhimdev of Anhilwad in stone. Soma constructed the temple as a gesture after Lord Shiva cured him of his illness.

The temple is so situated that there is no land from here to the South Pole. An arrow indicates the direction.

'Hamirji Gohil' fought and sacrificed his life to save the great 'Somnath Temple'. Hamirji Gohil is a legend amongst Rajputs and Gohil samaj of Saurashtra ( like Shivaji in Maharashtra). This is a monument to his memory in front of the temple of Somnath

50 kms before you reach Porbandar all the way upto Dwarka, one rides on the most beautifully prepared SH

This view is only seen for some 10 -15 kms although I thought there might be much more of riding along the sea.

1000's of windmills are seen all the way upto Dwarka.

                                Windmills from Suzlon energy

All the scenic views are found enroute which make your journey fascinating

Porbandar from outside looked more like an industrial estate to me

                                On the way to Dwarka

Just besides the sunset point in Dwarka was one of the most beautiful temples, the Bhatkeshwar temple. From a distance, We could sight the temple sticking out of the water.

Bhatkeshwar mahadev temple has a very different unique view than other temples found in Dwarka

                                Sunset at Dwarka

Shiv mahapuran gyan yagna satsang katha at Dwarka

Modi wished that the Yagna would attract the Rain God and eventually help the Gujarat villages and its farmers to prosper.
