  • Go Goa - A weekend ride

Goa was always on my mind and nov-dec is the time to be there ideally. So we planned (Me and Sumit(dragster)) a long weekend ride to one of the best places in India - Goa. Touch and come back was never my idea. The plan developed over the last one month, and I managed to save up a good money figure. The ride was planned for 28th Nov.... but got delayed for some obvious reasons. So the date set was 5th Dec and we returned today morning 7am (the night ride was amazing).

    Bikes:
    P220 - Chetan
    FZ16 - Sumit

Total distance: 1200+km on P220 and 1550kms on FZ16 (riding inside goa 3 days)

    10:00pm 4th Dec:
Packed all the stuff. Now the time was to check the bike for any minor-major issues. Sumit came to my place to have a nice polish done on his bike too. After checking and setting the slack of my bike's chain, we happily cleaned and polished our bikes. Decided on the meeting times.

    3:00am 5th Dec:
Everything ready, called up Sumit he was ready. It was a start of my first long ride on the P220 so I was really exicted. We had decided on taking the NH4 route till start of karnataka border and from Nippani take the right to Ajra village to reach Savantwadi.

We started with riding at 60-65kmph till Lonavala, as it was very dark and we did not want to risk/speed unnecessarily. Once we crossed Lonavala, Sumit took the lead and we started doing speeds of 80-85kmph. Sometime later, we started to ride side-by-side, the stunning lights of the P220(specially the high beam), coupled with the FZ's amazing light spread was enough for cruising at 90+kmph. When we reached Pune, the temperature was really dropping, and we seemed to generate some rpm in our bodies too. The roads were clean, no vehicles, just open roads. Earlier while deciding the schedule, Pune was 3hrs away as we were riding in the dark and shud have been slow, but we crossed Pune around 5:30am. Past Pune was fun, very good roads and moreover I knew the roads pretty well, cruising at 95-100kmph was easy with Sumit able to keep up with lease bit of pressure on the tiny 153cc machine. We kept on riding continuously, till we reached Kolhapur.

    9:15am:
My bike was behaving abruptly, at 6k+rpm, the bike was missing beats. I was scared to hell, just then I felt as if the engine is not getting fuel, so I thought that there shud be some issue with the injector or something. But while refuelling the bikes at Kolhapur, I checked the fuel filter and it seems to have 'kachra' inside it and moreover the bike returned 40+kmpl at 95-100kmph cruising, so I was a bit confused. I was really pissed off with issues on the P220 and that too on a ride. We started riding, I was thinking hard what to do, just then I remembered my cousin (who stays in belgaum) saying that all the P200/220 owners from north karnataka came down to kolhapur for servicing. Stopped immediately, checked the bajaj auto website for showrooms in kolhapur, got the number called them, and woah the PBK guys said come down we are open and not busy. So we started riding inside kolhapur (6km), reached the AutoIndia Bajaj PBK, told the guy about fuel filter and he said yes we will change it right away. Got it done in an hour... it was already 11am. We were back on track, and the P220 felt like its flying, doing a 130kmph with no crouch plain road. Reached karnataka border, the roads were simply amazing. Around 15km from Nippani, we had to take a right turn to go to Savantwadi (had omlete-bread here in a dhaba). The roads were crap, patched like mad, speeds of 50kmph were not possible. Reached Goa at 3:30pm, it was extremely hot and humid, there were several police checks while entering goa state, got past them easily.

    4:00pm:
Reached our hotel in purvorim, took rest and then head outwards.

No back/bum pains, no jont-limb pains atall. The P220 is a tourer and so is the FZ. The mighty 150cc bike can do speeds of 110kmph easily and cruising at 100kmph is a piece of cake.

    Milage:
    P220 - 40ish
    FZ - 30ish

Rest of the log will be written n put up soon....

PS: Sorry I did not let anybody know abt my plans earlier... ... this was the thing why I wasn't riding much for sometime now.

I am more interested in seeing the FZ and the 220 in full glory.

@Inder: Goa is as good as heaven, everybody is aware of it. We visited around 4-5 beaches viz. Calangute, Baga, Miramar, Anjuna... and one more... dont remember the name. Yup my Sony cam , will give it for repair tomorrow.

Got entry in tito's n mambos easily with the help of a hotel wala. Had enough sea food and beer . ID (item darshan) was done heavily ... rest what, ya beach sports, Yamaha Jetski was good, para-gliding was ok-ok ... thats all I can remember now... the return back ride was the most memorable. Temperatures in belgaum and satara were around 15 deg.C at 12am-2am, it felt like am freezing while riding at those speeds. The FZ kept up the Yamaha name, while bajaj proved its worth by staying healthy throughout the ride.. with me brutally twisting the right wrist on every ocassion.

Pics will be up soon, some of the pics are from my mobile cam(which are pretty good), so please bear the quality.

This all is tempting me to have a family get together in Goa, but sadly all have plans. So please bear with the fumes of jealousy! I know they smell sulphur.

                              Awaiting pics dude!
