  • Excellent shots there! Ladakh always has some part of it hooked to the rider, for a lifetime to cherish.

    Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
    The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

    THE END

And being true to myself I have no experience of touring at such a long and challenging route. All I have is some technical know how of the bike + a lot of experience of 200 km (up-down) experience on my duke.
I need some advice regarding doing such kind of tour:
        1. Expense (minimum possible)
        2. Technical know how ( to what extend is needed)
        3. Any required changes to the bike
        4. What kind of spares, need to be carry with?
        5. Biking gear
        6. Stock fuel (which should be there always with the luggage i mean)
        7. Medicines, medi-kits ( already added them up)
        8. If have missed something please add.

I have two of my friends who also want to do such kind of a touring with me on their bike ( pulsar 150, hero honda hunk ). We are planning for the next season, so think we have plenty of of time for the preparation. Guide us please.
Touring experience, technical know how and spares, the more you have the better! I carried a lot of spares, from cables to fuses to levers, even a roll over sensor! Fuel, I was always carrying 5-6ltrs. For everything else, go through the October-November issue of Xbhp magazine and Xbhp's ultimate guide to getting Leh'd.

          • Photos as usual Awesome, But Ani I think this trip was not that great as compare to your Passion for photography??? How you do it man??
Riding for almost 6-12 hrs and for each and very scene you are pulling out your camera, not only that need to select which lense to be used and this goes on in all scenes!!!

This is really addiction and passion!!

            Keep it up ANI!!!!

Thanks. Just be sure to prepare for it in a proper way, or it can turn out to be a very bitter experience. All the best!

I appreciate you saying that, thanks Somen. But the main agenda of this journey was to experience Ladakh, and I believe alone on a motorcycle is the best way to do that. I was always more concerned about riding and very less about clicking pictures. The camera on most occasions came out of the bag because I had to stop for some other reason. I'd love to shoot ladakh in a proper way someday, with all my gear inside a dust-proof 4x4!

              • again awsumm stuff bro.

I see u went with slick tyres there...were they satisfactory in terms of traction on wet and rough varying roads?? by how much margin should i think off road tyres would be better than these slick ones on that road??
Also temp would be down there still did radiator fan kicked in quite frequently??
And the biggest fear of touring Puncture!! Did you witnessed one?? If did...you had a puncture kit or?? if you didnt had any its great then...still if a guy goes without a kit and winesses a puncture in a remote area what would be solutions then??
even im planning on my duke in upcoming year so it would really help. Also which spares did to took with yourself??
Also soloing advantages disadvantages you think now and witnessed then.
Coool ride again you had bro....
                cheers.

                • (Y) on the self-actualizing experience and achievement!.. and thanks for the journey blogs and photos, made me feel as if my own journey [planned but never confident enough to made it so far though] as well to throttle in right away there!!! And a good description about your KTM Duke, riders reviews of which I've been looking for since couple of days and have decided to book one tomorrow. Gonna drive her for my scheduled South trip in December to Coorg and Kerala. Will be good to have any further note on Duke!

                      • Excellently done travelogue. Your efforts in telling your story and pics is really appreciated by many enthusiasts.

All the while reading your travelogue I was wondering how I would do this solo trip next year with a 100cc bike and me 53 years. Reading a lot on Leh - Manali section solo trips. As usual very little is written or photographed, as I can understand, this section demands the total concentration skills of the driver.

How do you think in your option me and my 100cc bike would do especially Moore Plains, Rothang and Changla which seems to be points of worry?

                        Cheers!
